Hey Johnnie, it's Rufus. I am the other guy here on youtube. I am getting questions from people now who are having the surgery soon or just got diagnosed with this challenge. I found out about my tumor about a week before my surgery and I looked on here and found you. Its been hard and I hope you are doing well. Let me know if you have any questions or want to compare symptoms. I'm glad I beat this and looking forward to more progress.
I had my acoustic neuroma removed in April 2009. It's really interesting seeing another person's experience following this type of surgery. I certainly empathize with you as I've had a lot of ups and downs post-op, including chronic post-craniotomy pain, ongoing facial weakness, vision changes, dry mouth, dry eye, extremely bad treatment-resistant hypertension, and so on. I hope you're doing well and hanging in there!
Hello, I was 16 years old when my acoustic neuroma was removed. It was the size of a golfball. I'm deaf on the left side and I still have facial weakness. That was 7 years ago. I think your face looks pretty good in this video. I wish mine looked that good. :) Dr. Andrew Parent was my neurosurgeon.
My acoustic neuroma tumor was 3.5cm it was successfully taken out 7 months ago by Dr.Linskey. My advice for pain and pain medication are neurontin for nerve pain fentinyl pain patches of 50mgs and a lot of Hydrocodone norco 10/325 or oxycodone of the same dosage.try accupunture its help me a lot with head and neck pain.
I talked with you a few months ago. Only can tell you that I have recovered enough from the muscles of the face. My tumor was the same size as yours, only you should strive to exercise the nerves, initially hurt the back of the neck and head, but each time the pain will diminish. Try acupuncture, facial exercises, massage, I tell you because I've tried everything and in my case one of those I worked. I always think positive I recovered after a year of surgery. Good luck!
Best of luck with your recovery. Try to keep a positive attitude, I know that's not so easy to do. I take things day by day and just hope for the best.
In terms of the facial pain, at first mine was pretty bad. Now it's not so bad. Mine hurts when I do any physical activity. For some reason I can't relax my face while walking or doing any physical movement. After about 20 minutes, it gets painful. My facial therapy was completely unsuccessful. I had no improvement at all. I also don't feel like my old self, I feel kind of cut off from things. My life has changed a lot but hey, at least I'm alive, so I feel fortunate about that. lol
I also had pain once the nerves grew back in my face. I also had muscle spasms. I still have problems with my facial muscles tensing up and then I get the pain. I never had the neck pain but I get head pain and other kinds of pain. You fortunately, have escaped a lot of the complications I've experienced, so that's good. Some things have improved but mostly things have stayed the same for the last year. I also have the sleep problems. Good luck on your recovery.
I'd like to thank you for posting your recovery videos. I am recovering from an acoustic neuroma that was removed last June. I have facial paralysis and your recovery has given me hope for my own.
I would like to comment that I have not had any pain in my neck or anywhere else. I wonder if massages would help release tension so that you are able to be free of medication. I am going to a community acupuncturist and I find it beneficial and affordable.

Hey just curious, but how are things now? Has your condition improved at all? Did you retain some of the hearing in your ear or did you lose it all?
