Thank you so much. I have been looking for the measurement for a long time and as soon as I get it I can start making my cigar box "strumstick". I can't wait, I made a canjo and got pretty good at it but it broke, so I decieded to make a cigar box "strumstick".
25" on mine, but keep in mind that fret scale is relative. The standard fret scale on today's banjos is 26 1/2 inches, but it was not always so. I prefer much shorter ones. You can find fret scale formulas online, for the strumstick. Good luck with the project.
I'm making a cigarbox strum stick(trying to make a imitation grand strumstick) and was wondering if you could please tell me the length from nut to bridge, on your grand strumstick? It would really help me out.
I gave away my Strumstick but my sweetie has one. I can measure it tonight at her house and send you the measurement tomorrow. You might also ask Johnmcnair at Red Dog Guitars. He's here on youtube, makes cigar box 3 string guitars and I'm sure he'd be happy to help. Good luck with it.
I love the way you play this. I hope you'll post some more strumstick videos...I just ordered one for myself and I need all the inspiration I can get. Love the slide effect.
She's doing good. I guess there is hope for me to learn some easy songs...but what really gets me motivated is seeing what the pros like you can do. :)
How did you 'reset' the frets, wouldn't you lose the integrity once you remove the fret and reset it? It looks like he used T- style frets on my Smokey, I dont get the buzz but it sounds like one is off just a smidge.
Some of the frets were too high. I had to press them in. I did that with a small block of oak and a drill press. I drill a largish bit into it and let it get stuck, then without the drill press running, use it to press down on the frets with a piece of leather under the neck to protect it. That works pretty well..
They are fun, and great for anyone who's just starting. I gave one to my girlfriend, who's never played any kind of an instrument in her life, and after about 3 weeks, she's got several songs down and sounding pretty decent.
Awesome!! I was wondering about slide playing on the strumstick!! Stay cool!

That's a sweet little instrument, fun to play with. Maybe I'll do some more videos with it.
