@waterfall666 Two things. Firstly, subsidance under the main entrance, meaning a smaller, less impressive entrance had to be created.
Secondly, it was taken over by somebody clueless. They decided that their customers didn't want white knuckle rides, and so sold The Missile, the log flume, etc.. to other parks. Without those premium rides, attendance plummetted. As the income dropped, rides would be closed instead of repaired, acts would be dropped, and it generally went to shit.
Wow, back when American Adventure was brand new, the 80's and the 90's were the peak years, after that it began to go downhill. So sad it had to go, it's gone but it will not forgotten. RIP American Adventure.
They never spent money on new rides, and got left behind and the only new ride in years and you had to pay £15 to go on it (sky coaster ) that's when it started to go down hill
the late 80s and 90s was the parks peak point. i first went in 92 and went every year til it shut. was sad to see each year the park getting quieter and quieter and rides slowly shutting. really miss this place so many memories :(
Wow, great footage! I was there that year with school, was looking for myself haha. Great footage, those cowboy hats were so funny, loved em! It was so good back then, although it was before the bigger rides, it was fresh and cared for!
what killed alot of these parks was high "Liability Insurance"..........it's that simple

went and had a look around the other day, nothing at all left, how the hell did the owners screw up this park?

An American themed park in Britain? Well certainly makes more sense than a California themed park in California.
