Tanzanite Diamonds sorry but this is the only way to contact you there's a group I would like for you to listen to named GO WEST they did a re-make of Bobby Caldwell's 80's classic "What You Won't Do For Love" check it out and get back to me when you can. Thanks a billion
Hey Tanzanite just got your message hey lets be friends but unfortunately this Christmas there will be a somber note EARTHA KITT DIED ON 12-25-08 TWO YRS AGO PLAY SANTA BABY IN HER HONOR.
Hey Retro Zombie u want to listen to more real music check out Louis Jordan and a personal favorite of mine "SCHOOL DAYS" THE SAX OPENING MADE ME A FAN 4 LIFE!!!!!!!!!
Hey Zombie as stated before I have a niece who's 21 and swears that Lady Vomit "cough" excuse me Lady Gaga is the greatest thing going.I once told her that the artists she enjoys listening to now were influenced by the ones that I and you acknowledge.Again as stated before if these artist today came up in the decades of the 30's up to the 90's they wouldn't make it at all.
@qix77 Ya'll outta do that. My family has alreay gotten 2 properties up in Northern Ontario. We don't want no part in what's coming in the next few years!
@qix77 - one of my friends shared this with me! My channel is an archive of a century of pop music, with 111 playlists for every year since 1900, and playlists for over 350 artists. Pick a year you like and listen up to 2 hours!
@RetroZombieee Thanks Zombie hey check this out yesterday was the birthday of a music legend named Louis Jordan had he lived he would have been 102 yr young say a belated happy birthday to the REAL KING OF ROCK MUSIC.
Oh man! I swear lady gaga is horrible. She is only 'liked' for her stupid outfits, I don't even know if I can even CALL them outfits! I'm glad I don't like that type of music y'know? I am a 14 year old girl with a great taste in music in my opinion.
Hey Schoolin/Tanzanite the woman who did the sax solo for The International Sweethearts Of Rhythm was Vi Burnside don't know her birthdate or her demise but it was said that she died in the 50's in Washington DC.
Your right that would be a tough one but it would have been nice to see these women go up against the good ole boy network just to see if they could compete.
Hey Tanzanite as stated before would love to see a full length feature film done about these musical pioneers think anyone would step up to the plate and make this project into reality?
Lol, I know! Damn Im glad it isn't like that today, can you imagine all of the talent we would have missed out on? From Miss Franklin to Sheryl Crow...
Yes but some I personally wouldn't miss some like Brittany Spears it seems that all she does is have her name and face in the tabloids she has ZERO vocal range.
Hey Schoolin would you like to have seen a typical battle of the sexes on film between these female bands vs the guys I would.I tell you right now my pick would have been to see the International Sweethearts Of Rhythm led by Anna Mae Winburn go up against Duke Ellington& company again how would they stack up vs this legend and his boys???????
That's a tough one; The sweethearts were a bundle of raw talent that jammed like crazy, but ellington had the style and swagger that really captures the late 30's, early 40's for me. I wouldn't know who to choose myself, I'd have loved to hear a collaberation though, that'd be awesome.
I agree purclassic I would have loved to see a typical battle of the sexes between them and the top male jazz bands of the era how do you think they would have stacked up against the good ole boy network?
Great videos like this, are proof, that there's a lot to our music history -- many of us -- have yet to learn.
It's also incredible to see how classy and stylish they were, while they performed. Especially, compared to today's artists. Think of someone like LadyGaga (who is very popular) but uses a lot of "shock factor" to portray her music.
It's sad that today's music, isn't more like this.
Darn! I can't recall her name BUT .. in the 20s and I believe part of 30s, she was a successful band leader of a MALE band.
She was herself a damn good bass player, and Gene Krupa played in her band at the very beginning of his career. Drive me nut that I can't recall her name at this time. I am surprised she wasn't included here. Anyone know who I'm referring to?
Hey Single person the answer to your question is Blanche Calloway you may know that last name because she had very successful male sibling Cab Calloway.A movie should be made about this woman and I think Tia or Tamera Mowry should have first dibs at playing the lead role.
Thelma Terry - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia31 Jan 2009 ... Thelma Terry and Her Playboys was the first American woman to lead a notable jazz orchestra as an instrumentalist. ...
@betteroffsingle Hey Single person you can add Anna Mae Winburn to the short but distingiushed list of women who lead all male jazz bands she lead the The Cotton Club Boys from Omaha.Charlie Christian a guitarist was a member of her band.
The REASON we can't have this kind of music any more are the Unions, God bless 'em.
Who could pay for such a musical extravaganza with logistical support, promo and Ticketmaster all piling fees on top of the union rate for each performer?
Tell me about it. I cant find a Cheryl Bentyne CD anywhere. I know she isnt from this era but she does a version of It Shouldnt Happen To a Dream. Sounds amazing.
Fantastic post. Very informative. There were so many influential women in the history of jazz who, for the most part, go unacknowledged. I especially liked the bit about the International Sweethearts of Rhythm, the first racially integrated all women's band in the United States. They were not only immensely talented, but big-hearted, using their music to support a school for poor children, and they were extremely brave in defying the Jim Crow laws of the era. Thanks for this great clip.
