  • Just purchased the book and I am loving it. The section on sashing (especially the back) is a little fuzzy. Are there videos on how to do it that compliment the book? Thanks so much! -- Jackie

  • @jlmccutcheon Hi Jackie, one of the things that I highly recommend is to take 4 small squares of fabric and 2 small squares of batting (say about 4") and layer them like little tiny quilts, then follow the sashing instructions to join just those two squares. This will help you see how the joining works and also will help you determine the right guides you need to get a good seam allowance for joining your quilt blocks. We do this when we teach our classes and we find it helps a lot :)

  • @CrazyShortcutQuilts Thanks so much for the reply. Good tip. I have been trying, but it just hard to see in the photos, especially what the back looks like during this process. I will keep trying to match up the photos with the sashing directions. I will check out youtube to see if there may be some sashing videos as well. Thanks again for the response. I do appreciate it.

  • Me again! Do the decorative stitches on the inner seams HAVE to extend to the edge or can you start & stop on the inner seams? Do you just break thread since you don't back stitch? They don't unravel before you have a chance to secure them with the next seam of stitches? thanks!

    - Angie

  • @a1angiem Hi Angie, we do "short seams" all the time - you don't have to sew to the edge. The trick to securing the seams is to sew a little teeny tiny bit longer than the actual seam, so that the stitches from one seam hit/sew over the stitches on the other seams. If you don't want to do this, bring up your bobbin thread and tie off the ends of the threads before beginning your line of decorative stitching and at the ends. Hmmmm, this might require a video response - let me know, okay?

  • @CrazyShortcutQuilts Starting the stitching now. I understand what you suggest & will try the first one & see (I've not used these slippery threads before - beautiful for rascally!) I'm sure a vid would be great for the future crazy quilters! Also worried about getting the decorative stitch lined up on the seam - some start left, some right, etc.

  • @a1angiem *'beautiful, BUT rascally!'

  • I have to the book too and even with it my brain is smoking trying to figure out how to the sashing - especially the back . I just want to put my vote in for a little video on how to do this. I'm at the sashing point on the first quilt I'm working on in this book. Hope I can muttle through to finish it.

Also, the quilt featured in this video - did you make a video on how to do it, I don't see it anywhere.

  • I have the book but would love to see a video of how you are attaching the blocks together using the back sashing. It is somewhat confusing. I understand the rows will be attached the same way, so I really want to make sure I understand the correct way to do this. Could you please post a video that shows how you attach the second block to the first block using the back sashing?

  • I am trying to figure out how you place your sashing on, how it gets together on back side and front side you have to fold over to sew.. Do you have a video of you putting the sashing on for both sides.

  • @deesparks1 Hi Dee, Thank you so much for watching my videos! This is just a tip for the quilters who have my book, Crazy Shortcut Quilts. The full description on doing the sashing, with photos of every step, are in the book. You can find the book in many libraries or through your local quilt guild or quilt shop and on Amazon (dot) com. It's really a fun way to make quilts! Check out my website for recent photos that quilters sent me for inspiration. Marguerita :)

  • Since I'm working on quilting my blocks - with my deocorative stitches (and having so much fun!), this was interesting to me. I will be checking your videos as I get closer to "sashing" my quilt. Thank you so much for this book and these wonderful ideas!

  • @thoeckel Ooooooooooooohh! I can't wait to see!

You are so welcome for the videos (I like yours too!) Thanks for subscribing - I have two more vids being edited right now and will post them soon ~~ Marguerita

  • I'd LOVE to see a video of exactly how you attach the sashing to front and back.

    Thanks!

  • wow thats a very nice quilt. i would like to quilt but m afraid of botching the whole thing up.

  • @Abrideatlast Please don't be afraid to start! There are lots of good videos here on YouTube and everyone has to start somewhere - just grab some fabric and give it a try :)

  • thats a very pretty quilt...

  • Thank you very much, it's one of my favorites! I love the reproduction era fabrics and their old fashioned look :)
