  • NO other country uses our model because it does not work.

There is no such thing as a "Free Market" solution for health care and there never will be.

  • Read the study called "The Cost of Wait Times" in Canadian health care. It is a canadian self-study. On one procedure alone, out of thousands, they use some formulas to determine that about 17 billion dollars are lost due to workers having to wait. The conclusion? As long as workers are not allowed to move ahead of the elderly and children, the Canadian economy will lose hundreds of billions per year. The natural end of a marxist system is the devaluing of the non productive person.

  • "Attention majority of the American population: what you want is wrong"

Also lol, not a single state has single-payer (vetoed twice in California though) and if we did, it would significantly reduce healthcare costs (see: Canada, Austrialia, France etc.)

  • Why not supply "free" food too? Food is essential. Ontario could provide you with "free" food each week in a government run super market. It would probably only be a small increase in your taxes.

  • Cute. But that's not what I meant.

  • @shimanopower : Do away with hungry poor children for a small increase in taxes, yes I like it sign me up. Maybe cut some off the bombs budget and avoid killing some brown people for a few years should help a lot in cutting the cost .

  • @dirthead87 This is a lie. If I lived in Canada, I would lose about 25% or more of my income to your fedreal and provincial taxes. You Canadians are being raped financially and you are too stupid to see it. In hard numbers, I would lose about $7000-10,000 in income by moving to Canada at my salary.

  • You make it sound like the hospital didn't cost its citizens anything, but it obviously did. Nothing is free. That money was taken out of your paycheck. The difference between a market system and a socialist system is that in the market system the individual directs where his/her dollar is spent rather than the government. We, in america, have hospitals too. They have shorter wait times, more equipment, and more doctors. We spend more more health care, but that's a decision made by individuals.

  • 85% of American have health insurance. Medicaid covers poor people; medicare covers old people; and SCHIP covers children. 50% of all health care expenses are already paid for by the the the government. What it costs your imaginary individual, I have no idea. I do know that the child, regardless of ability to pay, will receive high quality care. In the US, hospitals, by law, must treat individuals regardless of ability to pay. Your fringe example, appealing to emotion, doesn't justify socialism.

  • there is no poll and there will never be a poll that says 72% want healthcare like the bill their trying to pass. Number one 90% have insurance 81% like their plan.

  • Single Payer advocates have been making rational & logical statements for decades about Single Payer, but when we say France is NUMBER ONE in overall healthcare with Single Payer, then the so-called "opposition" says "Move to France"

  • lol using fox news turns you into a retard, we all knows fox new is bias thus only show people to bash reform

canada sent people to the US for sergury? that means that all canadian doctors(whoever was needed) were full and patient could not wait, so government PAID(not the patient) to get it done somewhere else.

why are there more doctors/nurses/machines/ect.. in the states? its all money

the only dif between us and canada is that private is there to make profit and government is not

  • We all know fox news is bias?

Hmm does anyone know that any of the other news stations are bias?

They are all so biased its absolutely frustrating watching any news on the television at all. Fox news just gets more crap because media is run by gay liberals and they hate fox for being conservative and they just repeat that they are biased. Fox news, biased or not, has brought into light a lot of news and added to the pool of knowledge for us to use just as much as any other news source

  • just another video for the rich repubilcans. Who really couldn't give a toss for the 50 MILLION uninsured americans, do not belive in their twisted statistics, they are just interested in there own personal lives. You already have death panels they are called insurance companys who make a PROFIT OUT OF YOU. Do not loose your chance to change for the better.

  • please remove the background music -- it's unpleasant and distracting. I'd really like to watch -- seems well crafted otherwise.

  • shimanopower - it's great to see a video in this debate that's well-made and has relevant, fair facts and figures (if some slanted conservative commentary), but this video doesn't address Obama's main argument that his plan shifts around taxpayer money that is already going into the system and spends it less wastefully, or that it addresses cost reduction at the pharmaceutical end to make the trajectories of Medicair and Medicaid more tenable. What say you to those issues?

  • The music track is painful.

  • Point taken. We might change the music and repost the video.

  • The Govt will do to doctors what they did to the mortgage industry

  • That music gets really annoying. I will address your comparison with Single payer and Medicare. The problem with Medicare is that healthy people are not in it. So it can not sustain itself. With everyone in single payer, including the young and healthy who feed in the system but dont take out. (you know, the people that the Health insurance companys are cherry picking for profit) it works. By the way, your facts are wrong. 60% of money spend on HC comes from taxes, not 47 =)

  • We are the healthy people who pay for medicare. Adding more people doesnt make it a more sustainable system. Adding another 1.6 trillion to the deficit isnt a sustainable system either. Single payer will mean rationing and cuts in funding. BTW, where did you get the 60% figure? I know there are additional costs when you factor in the tax benefit employers get for providing health insurance. But that tax benefit is just one more government distortion in the market for health care.

  • shimanopower Adding all the healthy people and then adding more Medicare taxes to the pool will sustain everyone. Single Payer is the perfect EFFICIENCY MODEL (not the perfect business model, because , of course Single Payer makes zero profit). There is far less administrative costs too, because Single Payer is simple since all the private insurance corporations are eliminated. Everyone can then go to the private doctor and private specialist THEY choose.

  • We already have a mixed system. 47% of all health care expenses are already paid for by the government. The government spends the money terribly now, and there is no reason to believe that it would spend it better in the future. If we nationalize health care, you'll see an even larger amount taken out of your paycheck. The video cites sources for all of the statistics.

  • National Health is 60 years overdue. A mixed public/private system is the better way. These are tired old arguments. Look at your paycheck: you are already paying for medicare even if you don't get it. These are bogus statistics.
