i have a volvo 240 myself :) it's slow, weak, uses lots of gas, has no grip on the back tires and rusts like hell.

however, it's gone off the road a bunch of times, been t-boned by an old guy and has survived extreme abuse by me and my big brother.

you just can't kill these cars :p oh, except the rear axle which is as strong as a toothpick

I was referring to japanese cars, up until around 1997-8, they were poorly rust proofed and ill suited for salted roads, thus giving them incredibly short service lives. No I agree with you actually, my only issue with volvos is that they are well built, but not reliable. i.e. they break down but never to the degree where they are beyond repair. Lord knows how many times I've had to work on mine
