If the lyrics are garbage, the music can still be great. For example in extremer kinds of metal, I don't understand a single word they say and sometimes don't bother to read the lyrics at all. But the music can still be great. You don't have to agree with the message of a song to like it.

Watching Over Me doesn't imply god or religion in any way. it's about a dead friend.

Burnt offerings is about hate and anger, the biblic reference is almost ironical.

A charge to keep refers to the setian's god, not our god and certainly not a christian god.

Schaffer has always criticized and doubted religion.

Ripper this, Barlow that. The thing is, Ripper is hands down more skilled when it comes to singing and if you say otherwise you're just being ignorant. Yes, we're all used to hearing Barlow as Iced Earth's singer and we'll never get used to another voice doing that. But Ripper is a good singer and if you, as I, can't get enough of him; check out Beyond fear's self titled album and Judas Priest's Jugulator and Demolition albums, must-have albums for any Ripper fan.

Well, listen to Dracula, the voice is a little different, but the pitch is still very high, Matt can pull it off. Whereas Ripper doesn't have the low range.

That said, I do like Ripper and was just getting used to him in this band, but am glad Matt's back, it's a better fit overall.
