My Sky HD box is 5 years old now and is obviously becoming a bit unstable. I phoned Sky today (before I saw this) and they offered me a 1 TB box for £149.99 plus my Sky HD subscription knocked back from £10.25 to £2.25 for a year. Didn't think that was a bad deal (it all depends if you get a 'good' one!). What I wanted to ask you is, now you've lived with a little, apart from the increased hard drive, is it a more reliable machine? Will I keep having to reboot it like I do on this old box?
@BOBBY1976100 hi mate. The only time I've had to reboot it is when I went on holiday for 2 weeks, I left it powered so I could record whilst I was away, when I came back menu navigation had become super slow, switching channels very slow, whereas normally all this is much faster than the old box. It's definitely an improvement.
@mattvandam1 Thanks for that. I think my box was one of the first gen ones and it was always hit and miss. The new box looks cool and it shines! What TV do you have, BTW? It looks similar to my old Panny from about 5 years ago. I swapped it last year for the VT20 3D one.
I think that was way they removed the component, to prevent people from recording things, as HDMI requires a display unit with HDCP to watch certain things.
@mattvandam1 thanks for the reply i got sky multiroom installed yesterday and when my tv is off for a few hours it does that thing about when you first turned on your box so i have to take my crd out and put it back in and it works perfect but its anoyying because it keeps messing up my recordings have you got any idea why ??
@WowMrPow When I boot up the box I get a prompt to connect the phone, but never have to remove the card or anything like that? That does sound very annoying..
Good video. As you say the only problem with shiny black equipment is fingerprints and dust. Hope Amstrad have improved in quality since the Sky takeover. Our first Sky box was an Amstrad back in 2002 and it was rubbish. Broke down just after the 12 month warranty expired.
@Mike9586 Thanks Mile I've had the box nearly a year and I can confirm I've no kind of hardware issues with the box, it still operates to same degree of noise from the HDD as when it first arrived which was louder than the original but bearable. Overall I like the unit, I've found it's changed my viewing habits as I can record at greater volumes, just wish it still had Component connections, oh well!
@NickRama86 yh u can record more than 5 things at once because ave got it at home with a 63inch plasma tv with a really great and amazing hd home cinema system
i dont like the box because in the light it looks pale grey and sometimes blue. though the box itself is great looking and is much better than the others.
@ketanmandalia I agree, in the sunlight it looks a little weird, but in a darken room its gorgeous and it's a much faster/better box in general, I recommend it
Keep still you fukin prick! Do u athritus? Or are u just dumb ? How we suppose to see the box if your moving it everywhere !?

NickRama86 1 year ago
@NickRama86 Hi Nick, you can record 2 channels at once as long as you are watching one of them. All Sky+ & Sky+HD boxes have 2 satellite feeds
