  • Is dai jyo bu Japanese for O.K? I don't know if I spelled it correctly.

  • @unknownperson9674 Yes, it's "daijoubu" in romaji. :)

  • @japanesepod101 does daijoubu mean OK or are you ok ? im a bit confused ?

  • @Lauren30stmFan Both, actually! It just depends on how you say it. Daijoubu (no intonation) = I'm/it's okay. Daijoubu? (rising intonation) = Are you okay?/Is it okay?

  • I keep hearing it as gochsisosama for some reason O.K

  • Kanpai was used in a German beer commercial. ^-^

  • how do i pronouce gochisosama? is it like "gochi-osama" silent "s"? Watch the vid thousand times still dun get it.

  • @DemiAries You pronounce it go-chee-so-sa-ma. ;)

  • @japanesepod101 wow, thank you for the reply now i'll try studying the Japanese sentence structure. Arigatou Gozaimasu

  • Kanpai!!!!!!!!!!! Oishii yummy cake!!!!

  • this cake it's oishii! lol

  • Kanpai! Mina

  • is ichigo japanese for strawberry and kawaii is japanese for cute???

  • @erelist That's right!

  • @erelist Hai! Sou desu! Yes! That's correct.

  • watching this while eating ramen. Itadakimasu!!

  • @RissyRoman yummy! :9

  • Hiroko-sensei! I have a question! Does slang evrr get in the way of word meanings?

  • Played Yakuza 4, already knows Kanpai.

  • Arigato Hiroko-sama! =)

  • That random hand

  • I'm glad you're teaching Hiragana, I tried Kanja and Katakana, but I casn't remember any of those too well. Arigatou Gozaimasu! I think you're doing a really good job.

  • i have a question!

gochisosama i can say to people i just met? or i have to use gochisosamadeshita?

    Arigatou Gozaimasu :D

  • @alice5753 "Gochisou-sama deshita" is more polite, so it would be better to use with people you have just met.

  • I see that you're using Hiragana. which writing system is mostly used in Japan, hiragana or kantakana? I plan on learning all three, but i was just curious.

  • itadakimasu .....#in chouji's voice *naruto

  • Gocisōsamadeshita, so complicated words :D

  • this is really akward but i wanna learn

  • Arigatou Gozaimasu!

  • I piss of my mom because she don't understand japanese and I say these words always when we eat >:)

  • @PuhKiller Haha.. Yeh, me too. =D

  • Sugoi! demo.... Where does the hand come from? O.0

  • @TheTenjin666 @Mnamito Peace, guys ^^ xx

  • anno, when are we gonna learn about sentances like, where do u wanna go and stuff like that, senpai?

  • @TheTenjin666 So, be certain. Do you say that Korean is similar to Japanese or not? Also, just because two languages use same script only makes their writing similar. But the language is much more than you see. We-are-in-the-same-language-family. ALSO, what I meant by they are similar is the usage of words, and they ARE similar. Are you trying to say that Turkish is like English just because we use same script, then you're heavily mistaken.

  • OISHIIIIIIIIII !

  • @TheTenjin666 Then I guess you just understand 'words' and 'script' when we say 'language'. But I'm talking about ordering and origin; which is actually used for grouping.

  • @TheTenjin666 dude wtf are u talkin about? if u dont know anything about turkish just stfu. turkish is not latin based you dumbass.

  • @TheTenjin666 We do use Latin alphabet. But we're coming from today's Mongolian region. To say that our language is Latin... That's pure ignorance.

    Check wikipedia sometime...

  • @TheTenjin666 dude.. im turkish too. they are really similar

  • @TheTenjin666 How do you know? Are you Japanese? Are you Turkish? We say "Park is where?" so do Japanese people. (Kouen wa dochira desu ka) My japanese level is about elementary and I'm pretty informed in philology. Please don't talk if you have no idea about anything.

  • thank you hiroko sen sei

  • thx theys realy help i always whanted to learn japanies

  • @TheTenjin666 No.. They both come from Ural Altaic language family...

  • thank you sensei

  • Oh SHIT ! that was delicious

  • do you think this teacher look like Hiroko? Is she younger sister of HIROKO??

  • I love Anime = I love Japanese! :)

  • Is it necessary to say it every time before and after you eat? Or just the main times like lunch and dinner?

  • You have a really Austraslian, new zeland like accent...Or is it just me =/

  • konichiwa Hiroko-sensei, I look the word in gogle for the word "Itadakimasu" to se what it means, and its said Lets eat. Is this the right defenition?

  • I thought that banzai meant cheers? but it doesn't look like it ...what does it mean :)

  • where was the breakdown of the words?? or is it like some words in korean when said quickly it doesn't matter too much if you get it wrong, they know what was suppose to be said

  • Oishii-misheard lyrics "holy shit"

  • Is it itatekimas same as gochisosama?

  • @PuhKiller 'itadakimasu' is said before the meal, and means something like "Let's eat". 'Gochisousama' is said after eating, and means "Thanks for the food".

  • @austinotaku1 okay. now i know my mistake. :)

  • I got to say it goes rather fast but with rewind it helps. This is by far the best form of Japanese learning I have seen yet. It's very understandable and helpful. I can't help but want to learn more with your carefree happy attitude. Thank u

  • I like these videos alot I learned the most common thing like sorry, itakimasu ( spelled wrong) hello nd most used words from anime nd I always wanted to learn more cause I love japenese it's such a nice langue nd I plane to spend my first year of college there

  • When she ate the cake and said "Oishii!", I sore she said, "OH SHIT!"

  • what does "deshita" mean? what other ways can u use it?

  • @KuroMushiChan

"Deshita" is a form of "desu".

Another way to use it is, for example, if you're working with verbs. If you're speaking in past tense, negative, and polite form, you can use "deshita". For example, the verb "wakarimasu" means "to understand". To say "I didn't understand," you can simply say "Wakarimasen deshita." "Wakarimasen" is the negative form of "wakarimasu". "Deshita" makes it past tense.

  • is it true that the words are said different if your male or female?

  • LoL .. Kanpai = Aramai Tii ( In Kadazan language )

  • aww..the outro was different on this vid. i loved the other outros you were using.

  • TERNURITA

  • Is there anything you can say in japanese to someone, just before they have their meal, similar to Bon appetitte, buon apetito, buen provecho or enjoy your meal?

  • @Crapaud3 Before they eat, the usually say itadakimasu.

  • SWISS ROLL! ftw

  • at 0:56 it sounds like you said "OH SHIT!!!!!"... I busted out laughing at that part, hehe.

  • LOL so Itadakumasu is like Bon' appetitte?

  • lmao i luv u hiroko.. OISHII!

  • You should also say Nihon Bonzai like Mr.Miagi before you drink

  • @Alex8131997 IKR? since the 10th time he did it ive always wanted to remind myself to lern how to properly say it and actually REMEMBER to say it ROFL

    oishii is just funny

  • Kanpai!

In Polish it would be two worts:

    Na Zdrowie!

Na - means: "on" ( example "book is on the shelf"), but also "for" ( example :"it is medication for diabities")

    Zdrowie - means "health"

Na zdrowie - would mean "for health" like you were wishing someone health. Beer doesn't bring health, but it is just polite.

It is called "drinking a toast". Toasts include blessing, wishes or gratitude.

We also use "na zrowie" when someone sneezes. It is like saying "bless you". And it is a blessing.

  • oh damn what a party :-D

  • Is it polite to say "oishii" with your mouth full?

  • @gcrav In Japan it's not polite to talk with your mouth full. It's best to wait until you've swallowed your food to say "OISHII!" ;)

  • @japanesepod101

does "ma zo" or "oo mai" count as delicious?

  • @gcrav it kind of sounds like "oh shit"

  • @gcrav best rule is to NEVER talk with your mouth full. its Impolite in America and in Japan and pretty much every where else so...just swallow :)

  • @gcrav It's also disrespectful to speak with your mouth full in pretty much all western nations too... Maybe not Modern America though? =P But seriously, that was a silly question.

  • This reminded me of nothing other than naruto's ichiraku's ramen

    Itadakimasu!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (prolly spell fail)

  • i like the intro and ending music ALOOTO :)

    i must have it :D

  • I heard it is an insult for someone to eat all of their food in japan. Meaning they need more. Is this true?

  • 0:56 I think that japanese people are dramatic .. and thats a good thing

  • Can't you say Ume instead of oishii? i watch alot of anime's and im a fan of japanese language XD i know only 477 words, but my grammar really sucks.

  • she ment to say oh shit!

  • If you were just visiting japan, would it be best to speak formally or just normaly with people in their twenties?

  • @Calfeeny Great question! A good general rule is to speak formally with people you've just met or don't know very well. But a lot of the time even if you've just met, young Japanese will say "You don't need to use keigo! (polite language)" if you're both around the same age. Hope this helps! ^^

  • IM AN INSTANT HIROKO FAN! LOVE YOU HIROKO!

  • Is it just me, or did anyone else know about "itadakimasu" from anime/manga?

  • Comment removed

  • I'm shocked to see how Japanese is really like Turkish... But I shouldn't be, they are from same language family.

  • @Neonalfax That's really interesting! Japanese like to think the language is totally unique, but in fact that's not the case ;D... Thanks for your comment!

  • @japanesepod101, sorry for barging in, but, as a side note,I'd just like to point out that, if we look carefully, there are similarities between almost every language in the world to some point...And I think this is one more thing that proves the bonds between all human beings...Thanks for the tips...

  • lmfao the part whe says gochisosama its funny kuz if u put it mute someone actually might think the word means... "here r ur dishes" lmao :'D

  • 0:57 LMFAO

  • I love your personality, it makes learning this a whole lot easier :D

  • in "gochisosama" don't we need to pronounce the "u"?

    it's like gochisoUsama isn't it?

  • @MrB4LLS Not quite, when you pronounce it, you are basically just prolonging the second "o" sound. So it sounds like "gochi-soh-sama" :)

  • at dinner time i always say "itadakimasu!" so ri was at my best friend's house with her and my other friend at dinner, we all said "itadakimasu!" all at once and her dad stared at us and was like "ookkaayyy"

  • at 0:57 I thought she said "Oh Shit" I and was like O_O

  • This woman is amazing and funny!! this is way better than rosetta stone i bet.

  • I have a question if you still comment back.

Well my first question is with the letters you are using, are they Hiragana or Katakana?

My second question is, how are the two alphabets different from each other? Don't they use the same syllables such as a i u e o, ka ki ku ke ko etc.

My last question is, if i were in school, which one would I use?
