This song can also be seen as a metaphor for life in general...the struggle involved, at times like a war. Yes, how many of us have had baptism of fire in one way or another. Suffering - who has not. And the ennobling value of faithfulness to your friend on one level of another for sometimes true faithfulness can also mean no agreeing but still being there and not abandoning the person. Love this song. BTW "demotut" I hope MK would advise you, No...grow to be your self...nothing better.

Well in this song Mark Knopfler is enumerating us few feelings, few reasons that are present in a war.Soldiers suffered too much, too much violence; but all of these can be avoided.Humanity must avoid them, so the human kind live peacefully.
