  • "Excellent!"

  • If black Christians would take time out to read the entire old testament and new and they will surely see the bible clearly contradicts itself. You don't need a bible to set your moral standards. I'm a black atheist and I Came to my senses.

  • Leonard is awesome! I am black and a former minister, as well, who left the church, became agnostic for awhile and has recently crossed over to full blown aetheism. Seeing him is like looking in a mirror and it was GREAT! to know that I am not the only one!

  • Your speaking skills from being a Pastor have crossed over into your Atheism. :) This was a joy to listen to.

  • I became agnostic when I was around 11 or 12. This being an reaction to a passing in my family. I asked the question, could god really be so selfish as to have all the love that person had in our lives, all for itself? I continuously contemplated this until I was early 13/14. Which I then became a agnostic-atheist if I recall. But the more you look at life like this black man said, the more you realize, something's not right here. That's exactly how I became an atheist. Thanks for this videos!

  • I'm VERY glad that typed "Black Atheist" in the search bar and found the perfect discussion :)

You guys should TOTALLY debate theists and try to enlighten people. I'd especially would enjoy seeing a black atheist owning theist because we are a rarity lol.

  • Great POST!

  • Excuse the analogy but that man in a blessing. I wish you all the best Leonard.

  • GreydonSquare is a rapper, not a "rappist." LOL. I really think that there should be a renaissance in the black community, going back to the freethought tradition of people like DuBois and other freethinkers. I'm white, but I think that would be better for all of us.

  • As a black free thinker, I found the video to be a pleasant fireside chit chat. We need to address the universal destructive nature of religious indoctrination and how it has destroyed ( both psychologically and physically) the very fiber of individual and collective growth. How can I see the natural goodness in anyone or anything in the world if "god" divides peoples into tribes and has a chosen group called Israel? Religions must die so the world can live.

  • "A Christian threatening you with hell is like a hippy threatening to punch you in the aura" - Josh Thomas.

  • That is very good.

  • I'm a black heathen per-se! I think that religious people have thrown dirt on the term Atheist! Some one who doesn't believe in Santa Claus, doesn't say I'm A-Santa or A-Tooth Fairy!!! Black people, like Latinos pray to the Gods of our conquers! We were enslaved and enforced this religion upon us! I proudly, claim that I do not believe in a god, any god. And screw Tyler Perry and his dumbass movies. It's the same thing, black need a man and god to be whole. How sexist!!!

  • very true

  • Vesdawg, I'm so glad to read your message. I totally agree, especially about Tyler Perry. I know I'm getting off the subject, but I thought I was the only one who felt this way about his movies that always have the same plot. We are always incomplete w/o a savior. Unfortunately, the goal of the slave masters prevailed.

  • I have to say that Vesdawg and you both couldn't be more correct about Tyler Perry. Madea is a funny character, but his movies help cater to the new plantation a.k.a. the church.

  • How wonderful. This has given me the courage to tell one and all that I am proud to be an atheist. I believe we are all decended from Africa.and that you will find this d & A in all of us. I am proud to know that we are all equal, black or white. I feel so much alligence to the Black people, I seem to feel their pain as to how they have been treated as slaves. which I believe bear's out the fact. some of my ancestors were black and i am proud of that fact.

  • Lately I've been on a path toward escape from the shackles of organized religion. But my main concern is trying to formulate a coherent answer for when people ask the inevitable: "If you don't believe in religion, where do you derive your moral foundation?"

  • Easy answer: Ask them

1 " Are you saying that if you didnt belive in God, you'd suddenly start to kill/harm people.?" Religious people do harm to others in spite of their beliefs.

    2. Ask them "Why do you worship a god who has done so much harm to people"

See what answers you get from them.

  • Interesting topic indeed. I live in an area that is mostly comprised of African-Americans. I have always thought engaged black parents are the best representation of/for christianity. Watching it in action is one of the few times that I can say religion is beautiful (specifically when mixed with A-A culture). I have wondered how difficult it is for anyone in the black community to come out as atheist. These videos and comments have shed a lot a light on the topic.

    Great three-parter.

  • Excellent video. I am not black though I'm an atheist.

Previously I didn't know being a black atheist was such a hard combination. The stockholm syndrome made a lot of sense. For ironic reasons a majority of blacks have become more devoted to a white religion, than most whites. And apparently its more so called "okay" to be eccentric if you're white.

Thanks for explaining all that. It says a lot.

  • ... see still kicking... it's okay, free your mind... big momma will still let you have some greens.

  • my mother used to "spare not the rod", to beat them christian values into me... lol

Black People... you can also free your mind.

there is no god, and if there is may he strike me dead right now.

  • Its been instilled that you don't question God's word and that scares people to ask questions. Someone said punished for eating from the tree of knowledge? Ha! I'm glad I broke away from my Roman Catholisism indoctination.

  • Who or what placed the belief in us that it is wrong to rip children from their mother's wombs?

If you are implying god you are mistaken. According to the bible nothing gave us that knowledge we took it, and we are being punished today for eating from the tree of knowledge of good and evil. If you were implying that we evolved as a social mammals to have chemical reactions that reinforce altruistic behavior, good for you. Now you are using your brain that god also didn't give you.

  • @creationrules, I hope that was an attempt at sarcasm.

  • Who or what placed the belief in us that it is wrong to rip children from their mother's wombs?

  • Wow, this shit was powerful!

  • The suffering of innocent people alone is justification to question the authenticity

of all religions, their bibles and their god/s.

I have no idea of just what a real creator would be like but it wouldn`t be the present god with all it`s baggage of heaven, hell, satan, original sin, the second coming etc.

I can`t envision a creator of the universe and all contents in it to be so childish that it would demand that it`s human life worship it. This simply doesn`t compute. cont......

  • cont.....

A heaven for believers and a fiery hell for non-believers.

This whole god bit simply smells of the essence of ignorant, arrogant, delusional man and his created god.

Only man with his delusional, imaginative mind could create a god of this nature.

To think that an entity could create such a complicated universe with a few spoken words simply doesn`t compute.

  • A+ discussion

  • There was a slight misquote. It was not Haggai 13:16(as there are only two chapters in the whole book of Haggai), but in fact Hosea 13:16. But I completely understand Leonard Adams' point.

    P.S.

    Great video! ★★★★★

  • You know James Baldwin was a preacher who lost his faith even while he was a minister. That must have been rough.

  • Man , i couldn't have said it better friend. Im a black Jamaican atheist living in Atlanta G.A. Im not one to 'GO WITH THE CROWD' so it was easy for me to transition from being DEEPLY Roman Catholic to freethinking atheist. Great video and thanks.

  • That you very much for the vid. Very inspirational vid. It has helped me a lot and it is comforting seeing other african american atheist such as myself

  • This video is great, Leonard Adams is an incredibly articulate and intelligent man.

  • Mr. Adams is absolutely right. He expressed many of my own thoughts about the atrocities in the bible and how people make excuses for them. One realizes this is a form of denial that exists, after critical thinking takes hold. Thank you for these excellent videos! You both were fantastic! 5 stars isn't enough,

  • Sweet trio !

    Thanks guys

  • This was a breath of fresh air, I actually learned a few things from these 3 videos.

Thanks Blair and much thanks to you as well Leonard.

  • Get Leonard his own YT account! I admire the stand he's taken, even if it has made him a sort of pariah. I especially like his speaking skills and I sense a lot of passion, sincerity and conviction from the guy. Good set of vids!

  • Thanks for sharing. (:
