  • @oblivios44 right there with ya on that

  • I always thought it was a mistake for producers to make a movie out of a broadway play. But Godspell in my opinion was successfully done.

  • I totally love Godspell and watch parts when ever I can,,,but this is my all time favorite song in the whole move!

  • Yep - that is the 'Chief' - and yes - the note she hits at the end of this song - blows my mind!

  • @slipkid24393 Jesus already knew where his path would lead him. The way I see it, Judas's beatitude hit too close to home for him, and Judas knew it.

  • "It says Keds."

  • Godspell never fails to make me feel good.

  • I haven't checked through your comments - but has anyone told you this isn't the beatitudes but Psalm 103? Like thousands of others, I was in a performance of Godspell - it's my favourite musical. :)

  • It says rejoice!

  • @bnsword It says Keds

  • @bnsword It says 'Keds.'

  • Why does Judas's beatitude seem to upset Jesus so much? I can't figure it out. It seems like he is calling Jesus out on something and Jesus realizes it but can't acknowledge the fact.

  • @slipkid24393 I imagine Judas had figured out where Jesus is going, and is angry he isn't turning back.

  • Terrific song. The lyrics are actually from the 1940 Episcopal Hymnal, like several other songs in Godspell.

  • Lynne Thigpen, whom I was fortunate enough to know somewhat, once told me a wonderful story. When she was a little girl growing up in Illinois (she was from Joliet), all the kids used to make fun of her by saying, "Thigpen, Thigpen, lives in a pigpen." And she would just scowl at them and say, "One day I'm gonna be a big star, and you'll all be sorry." After "Godspell," she was flown in to give a speech at her old grade school and she had them all removed from the audience before she'd speak.

  • Ready to obey? "Love your enemy." - Jesus

  • @SaarduLady nooooo.....they dont say "obey" they say "abate"

  • @SaarduLady thats the hardest thing but it is what it is all about!

  • Every time somebody says "Master!" I think of Barbara Eden.

  • One of my all time favorites!!! They don't make them like they used to!!

  • i get really excited at 2:06

  • Victor Garber who plays Christ here also was on James Cameron's Titanic

  • Uhhh really whos idea was it to make a religious play? Reiligion only causes war. At least Allah is all accepting, he even accepts people who live against him. That's a real God.

  • you can't be serious your religion says to kill all infidels which is anyone not believing or willing to believe allah how accepting is that

  • @loopie1200111 Thats a lie, read the book fool.

  • @TheLachrymology and @loopie1200111 it's just a musical just deal it's got awesome music and if anyone's got a problem with just say "then don't listen to it"

  • i have to sing this in my schools Godspell Jr. production! the high note should be fun...

  • her voice is like vocal happiness! :D

  • Wasn't she on Coming To America ?

  • Lynne was in lean On Me. She also performed in Harry Chapin's The Night That Made America Famous in 1975

  • @jasoncolannino And she played the Chief in the Carmen Sandiago game.

  • Lynn Thigpen passed away? I'm certain her spirit will last forever. I remember her from her role on ER.

  • Not only was this scene fimed at Lincoln Center, they had another set in Central Park, near the Merry-go-round. I was a freshman in high school. (Power) trying out for the team. We ran past the CP set all afternoon. They were filming that day.

  • Lynn Thigpen was a brilliant actress and one of the nicest people in the history of New York theater.

  • i love 1:20

  • What I wouldn't give to be able to convince 9 of my friends to come with me to the Lincoln Center bandshell and re-enact this.......

  • Does anyone out there know the name of the actress that is singing this song? she passed away a few years ago and I am trying to remember her name.

  • Her name was Lynn Thigpen. She passed aaway while working on the Craig T Nelson cop show The District I think it was called. And she was an amazing talent. Beautiful voice

  • she sounds fantastic at 0:55!

  • I saw this and JC superstar in the theater. The church my mom took me to would have songs from these movies in sunday school to try to tell kids that Jesus is cool.

  • Lynne Thigpen was also the voice (singing and speaking) of Luna the moon on Bear In The Big Blue House.

  • i love 1:21 to 1:43, especially that awesome sideways walk she does...and then i love the different dances the men and girls are doing right after that.

and then when Jesus shows up randomly in the back row.

  • then hes randomly back in the audience. lmao. Movie fail, but its all good!

  • no, i think it was supposed to turn out that way. cuz jesus is JESUS, ya know?

  • yeah lmao. he works in mysterious ways xD

  • Dont you love how jean shorts and tights are ttly in fashion NOW?
