  • Aahh Tool the smart peoples chistianity

  • @rastabreeder1 no your wrong and standing still on that thought, i though i was christian, then catholic, was drawn to atheism and found spirituality in the end i moved along side spirituality to find them very much like me, loves music art and others intersted in spirituality and its realativity theories, are you religious?

  • I would loose my virginity again, if I could, to this song and TOOL!

  • Holy. Fuck.

  • for those of us in 12 step programs, this is totally what doing a fourth step is all about

  • this song is about spiritual alchemy... now shut the fuck up and listen "let the waters kiss and transmutate leaden waters into gold"

  • @TheFlightofIndigo leaden grudges

  • In my opinion this is the best album ever by any band

  • @foreverisalie713 that may be an understatement.

I like the other tool albums a lot, but this supersedes the others by an order of magnitude. I love the first two APC albums very much but this is still another level entirely.

  • Ahh, Tool. My generations Tool

  • maynards intresting as hell! why wouldnt u listen to the lyrics, hes part of the band for a reason! he gives a path into his mind which is fuckin awsome!

  • I'll just say it. Tool has surpassed Pink Floyd.

  • their music is extremely powerful, but until you start trying to understand their lyrics, you are only getting half the experience!

  • @1dbstech Well then with you huge experience why don't you tell us what this song is about?

  • @1dbstech It's mostly esoteric occult stuff. I'm willing to bet even the band doesn't know. They just go with whatever sounds good.

  • @AliceNchainz011 im sure they know... since they wrote it and all lol

  • @TheFlightofIndigo They're just doing w/e sounds cool

  • what a lesson...

  • It talks about how grudges effect people. Its simple.

  • i enjoy reading everyones half-retarded comments about breaking down the lyrics, all i can say is if you didn't write the song HOW THE FUCK CAN YOU TELL ME WHAT HE MEANT???

  • @PathFinderInfantry if you didn't write the song, then whats the point of listening to the lyrics? And thats your answer.

  • we know that he is like a genius but why is any of this speculation important? its secret society discussion normal people dont talk about shit like this maybe he is warning us occupy your mind with knowledge

  • A lot of what Maynard Keenan is saying relates to characteristics of a Capricorn. They are known to hold grudges and be control freaks. Maynard is an Aries, the true pioneer of the zodiac. It could be a message for all the caps and people out there who hold grudges.

  • This is about a battle with Saturn ascending and teaching us lessons over and over again until we get it right. "Saturn ascends, choose one or ten. Hang on or be humbled again" means get it right or Saturn will come around again teaching the same lesson until you do it. "The one the ten" could be the Aries and Capricorn houses in the zodiac (Capricorn is ruled by Saturn).

  • i imagine floating around from universe to universe - Confronting myself .

  • 6:58-7:24 Lungs of a god.

  • OGT, since 92'!!!!!!!!

  • awesome song. awesome graphics, especially from 7:00 on. dark, light, confusion, fade. awesome

  • Thats an almost 28 second scream. I'm impressed.

  • @xM4TTM4Nx 24 secs

  • AWESOME JOB MAN! THEM LYRICS ARE TRICKY TO CATCH, YOU DID GOOOOOOOD!

  • What a cool video.

    I have a question:

We have a TOOL video prepared to "Aenima" with lyrics and images.

How can we show TOOL fans this video without breaking copyright law?

I just want to share the video with TOOL fans.

    Thoughts?

  • This song is for governments/power mongers worldwide.

  • for me anyway...

  • mescaline for sure...

  • My family is trying to take all my money, I was saving to get a bike to save on gas, but my deadbeat family is bound and determined to fuck it all up for me.

  • Its not a big issue. He enunciates pretty clearly so I can understand most of what he sings. Bought the regular version. Loving it.

  • how great is this song....??? i mean, really, HOW GREAT!!!!!

  • @Il1anna it's Tool's best song.

  • After I read Secret History of the World by Mark Booth, this song just started meaning sooo much more to me

  • Saturn returns is a 27 yr astrological cycle when Saturn returns to it's place when you were born you can choose to wake up or wait another 27 years for your midlife crisis and realize you've wasted you life.

  • @infoassassin84 I got sober at 27, 10,000 days is approximately 27 yrs ... time for us all to wake

  • @TheOnward1k Today is 4 years sober for me and I give some credit to the words of Maynard for helping me recognize things about my addiction.

  • @vestige tool never add their lytics th their CDs and until 10000 days were never photographed in their albums either. They want to be disconnected from their music so it stands alone with it's message. Get deep into tool it's life changing and eye opening.

  • May be a stupid question, but does the Cd come with a book including the lyrics? They are so good and interesting that I expect I will want to be listening and reading along. Does anybody have the Japanese pressing? It is cheaper now, but I would hate to miss out on a lyrics book in English.

  • @vestirge Tool never include lyrics with their CDs, because, as Maynard said in an interview, he wants people to experience the song entirely.

  • i've always thought the 27 club was strange but after my friend decided to join it a couple years ago it became personal. then i read a tool article describing the saturn return and did some research on it. technically i was right on my saturn return (29, the actual year of the return) when the tragedy happened. that damn near swallowed me whole and i almost didn't make it through. there is a lot more to the story but too much to explain here. the point is i believe in it now.

  • definitely heavy on the astrology symbolism

  • In alchemy Saturn's (astrological planet) element is Lead.

Gold being the most esteemed metal

  • Man I went through shit that Maynard describes in this song and I have to say it is not a good life to lead. This guy is a genius for sure.

  • top 4 tool albums

    1. aenima

    2. lateralus

    3. 10,000 days

    4. undertow

  • saturn takes 27 years to go around the sun. 10000 days.

  • wow.... we are all one.... just let go of your ego and you'll see the truth

  • 7:00 - 7:22 great and looong scream

  • saturn returns to you, a teacher

  • this song is awesome and the drum sound is awesome!:)

  • this is by far the most influential and goose bump causing band or type of music i have ever had the pleasure to experience tool makes this world a better place period

  • ti groupara 8ee mou

  • Ahh, Tool. My generation's Pink Floyd

  • @billsutherby even Porcupine Tree!!!

  • @billsutherby i like tool and pink floyd. WINNING!

  • @billsutherby If Floyd and Zeppelin got together and had a kid, it would be TOOL.

  • @mooseasaurusrex I think for your statement to be to be somewhat accurate, you would have to at least include King crimson and Black Sabbath.

  • @billsutherby I have honestly never thought of Tool that way. Very good point, and I agree.

  • @billsutherby thats how i always explaing it to older folks

  • Absolute best drum sound i have ever heard on an album. Soo fucking good.

  • WOW!!! One of the most amazing tool songs I have ever heard! the beggining is viscious!

  • Tank0688 speaks truth.

  • Shitty Nu Metal and shitty lyrics. Best band indeed for a generation of mongoloid grown up metallica fans.

  • @placydil Waaaaaah wah. Then why are you looking up Tool songs, tool?

  • @placydil Tool is nu metal? Really? They have more in common with old prog bands from the 70s. Listen to king crimsons album Red. Youll hear where they get their sound. This aint nu metal dude. Sorry.

  • @jimbobanalbeats I'm a floyd fan, which is why I'm on a tool page atm. :) I love the throught put into the music.

  • Just want to add.

I did not read every comment but if it has not been mentioned....

Saturn/Cronus. Roman/Greek God. Paranoid devourer of his own children.

"spit you out like a child"

Jupiter, son of Saturn, was hidden on the island of Crete while a stone was offered to Saturn in his place,

    "give away the stone"

After Saturn's defeat and loss of throne he fled & initiated the golden age, an age of peace, in Rome.

"Let the waters kiss and mutate these leaden grudges into gold"

    That is all.

  • @KarmaMuttered and when he repeats "Saturn ascends the ten and one" what does he mean by that?

  • @TheOsirix12 he means the Saturn return in astrology. When you reach age 30 or so, Saturn returns to where it was during your birth. This generally rips anything false from your life. "choose one or ten" means you can pick either the higher or lower road. If you pick the lower one, you will be humbled again by losing everything.

  • @TheOsirix12 in astrology, saturn returns to it's position at the time of your birth, where your life makes a significant change for the better or leads to a sort of midlife crisis. saturn is a negative and feminine, contracting, restrictive force, which solidifies into something substantial, given it's an earth element. it either manifests all the shit you cling to into something that pulls you down, but if you let go of (the grudge) you can be reborn. the one is aries(mars), the ten is saturn.

  • @sixsickssechs Thank you:) but according to the song or astrology?

    there are 8 stars

    so mars (1) saturn (10)?

this part did'nt much understood to me

  • @TheOsirix12 there are millions of stars actually... but considering that this is in our solar system, there are about 25. 8 of them are planets and the rest are moons.

  • @KarmaMuttered beautiful

  • @KarmaMuttered I WAS IN GREECE/CRETE. Beautiful place I might add. Awesome to see where civilization began. AND I saw all of that shit that involved the gods at that time. Cool stuff. I suggest everyone to go to Crete if you can. So amazing.

  • @KarmaMuttered you've never translated ovid.... his defeat doesn't mark the begin of the golden age....it's the end.....yep, we in europe still do that stuff^^

  • JESUS CHRIST PEOPLE this song is about Saturn in your horoscope and Maynard just uses "The Scarlett Letterman" as a metaphor for a grudge since everyone hates the "Jocks" throughout high school and whatnot. Maynard is so fucking straight forward with his lyrics if you're mind is open. All of his lyrics have meaning for the close minded AND the open minded. 2 meanings for almost every song he writes lyrics for.

  • the bulk of the comments about this song make me sad for the state of our educational system and the destruction of literature. it seems like nobody has even heard of The Scarlet Letter.... the idea of a Scarlet Letterman is tremendously powerful for it connotes the idea of forced sex by a sports team from a school. as for the rest, well, read moar. nobody is too smart whilst it is quite possible to be too stupid... and the two are as far apart as "yeah" and "yes".

  • I always wear my grudges like a crown of negativity...no hiding it. The cornerstone is the base that you build your life on....different for everyone

  • @jessblackwolf you entirely missed the point of the song.

that is like listening to opiate and thinking maynard has delusions of god telling him to rape you, the listener.

  • @jessblackwolf That's the exact opposite of what this song is about....a grudge can come to define who you are if you make it a cornerstone of your life, yes, but that is not necessarily a good thing. It, in the words of Maynard, "consumes" you and "Drags you down like a stone until you choose to let this go." This song is about letting go of your grudges and forgiving, no matter how hard it may be.

  • Actually, I'd bet the song has a very specific meaning and everyone for some reason thinks it is suppose to mean whatever they want it to mean. He, like every other lyricist, has something in mind when he wrote his lyrics. He isn't just throwing random stuff together so it can seem abstract. He is simply outstanding at phrasing and analogy to express in a different way feeling betrayed by someone he most likely was in love with, or at the very least committed to. Tool members can love ppl too...

  • Lateralus, by far the best Tool album.

  • @IlOvEtOpLaySoleTsgo he uses the cheating lover as an example of the real meaning.. Unable to forgive your scarlet letterman is saying he's unable to forgive the cheater... I don't think the song's meaning is to forgive your cheating lover, but he just uses it as an example. Any tool lover would know that there's always a meaning being the obvious. The cheating lover is just a great way to put how ppl let grudges get the best of them.. They need to be let go of or forever let it hold you down.

  • its about people holding on to revenge , hate and anger its much obvious with unable to forgive we're sinking deeper and also with to consume you till you choose to let this go thats wat i tink its about tool is ment to give ur own interpretations on the song i tink that shows maynard's genius personally :)

  • @IlOvEtOpLaySoleTsgo Thank you... I was about to say the same thing...TOOL doesn't sing about "past lovers"...I think Maynard is referring to the bankers and politicians who exist in a constant state of fear therefore must try to control everything when all they need to do is "let gooooooooooooooooo!!!!!"

  • @SAPPERsurvivialism but if you listen tot he lyrics... The grudge is not being able to forgive the scarlet letter of a lover. But of course the meaning of the song is deeper than that. This is just an example. Don't think tool wouldn't surprise you and sing about something you wouldn't expect. They used anal fisting as an analogy in stinkfist, but that isn't want the meaning of the song was about.. Every tool lover knows that the song is deeper than the obvious.

  • Damn, I just lost my Lateralus album yesterday. Another fail to add to my list...

  • this is one of the kick ass songs by tool!!

  • These guys are in that very rare class of popular music that are "in... but not of the business" - they observe, feel, and comment on the human condition that is at times troubling, painful, and oh so beautiful it hurts.

  • No text buddys. Just listen and feel.

  • i think you guys are on the right track as far as the lyrics. but seriously, only maynard knows the REAL meaning. dont beat yourself trying to figure them out. i think maynard wants you to get a feeling from the music itself, not necessarily just the lyrics. thats why tool doesnt post lyrics. (in my opinion)

  • @CareyPortnoyBeauford Theres no single meaning to this song. I think the point of him having such generalized lyrics (complicated) is so the fans can take what they want or need from it. Im not sure if thats what maynard intended but thats how i view it

  • @metallica1123456 i agree somewhat. however i do think each song's lyrics are aimed at some sort of central meaning. even if the lyrics are general and can point to several sub-meanings. which would allow people to relate in different ways. either way tool is awesome. *high fives*

  • @CareyPortnoyBeauford *high fives back* True but I doubt people would truly get maynards meaning.

  • @J3zab3ll3j That's very true.. But I think he uses the love affair as an example. Stating it so ppl can learn from it. So you know with tool, things are always deeper than it seems... The love affair is just his way of making ppl see what he sees. It's always better to explain with an example. So i agree with you.. I just say the song is about the love affair, his grudge with it, and the trial to get over it.

  • what's the name of that symbol at the end?

  • THE ROSETTA STONE IS THE UNIVERSAL LANGAGE STONE, TO COMPREHEND THE HOW TO CHANGE LEAD IN TO GOLD. ALL HATE IS A GRUDGE, UNTILE WE STOP CONTROLLING AND FLOW WITH THE RIVER, WE WILL NEVER HAVE WINGS OR KNOW GOLD. HE GIVING YOU THE LOST KEY TO A FREE CONSIANCE.

  • Hey!! Let Go!! or you will miss an opportunity.

  • It obviously deals with adultery due to the reference of being unable to "forgive your scarlet letterman" an allusion to the Scarlet Letter

  • justify denials and grip'em to the lonesome end...

  • it seems really freaking obvious what he is talking about. someone explain to me why this is so mysterious. I dont get it.

  • If the Grudge was an 8-year old boy and Saturn was my penis......anybody? South Park...

  • It's so awesome to see people are picking up on the esoteric and occult meanings of these songs. Did you know Tool gets inspiration from the same or similar organizations that Alister Crowley was a part of? The OTO?

  • @Poonard did you know that wow upside-down is mom?

  • @jmarra07 did you know your mom sucks? >:P

  • @Poonard She's a ho like that

  • @jmarra07 haha...take care man....Mom's ;))

  • One thing; AAHHAAHAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

  • who cares about meaning. i just wanted to know the right words to use to sing along in my car!

  • wow the meaning is simple. Wear the grudge like a crown. Letting the grudges in your life rule you and your actions towards life. unable to forgive your love of your life, meaning not only lover, but what ever you love in life. (refering to the scarlet letter part. Clutch it like a cornerstone, think of climbing a face cliff. you have a cornerstone, you hang on to it with your life. Otherwise it all comes down, meaning If you dont hang on, you will have to change your ways.

  • When saturn ascends, meaning a new beginning, choose one or ten. Aries, or Capricorn. Hang on or be humble. Capricorn are known as control freaks, and Aries are humble in nature.

Ignorant to the damge done:refering to not knowing the Consiquince of what you do. Drags you down like a stone or lifts you up spits you out like a child, light and innocent Refering to when saturn comes again you have a choice of being in the same boat or change your ways.

  • The Grudge, Ticks and Leeches, Parabola, Lateralus, Stinkfist and Schism are the best songs from Tool in my opinion :)

  • poo fats

  • 5 people can't let go.

  • sorry, but I can't resist...

  • Maynard is too smart for his own good :)

  • @dennisjr77 Maynards not the only band member.

  • @MrLegalizeweed thatz true bro....Adam Jones and Danny Carey should also be credited....i'm too young to say this but this band takes you down to a another level where you got to think and interpret about stuffs....watch their videos after smoking up....it makes u a philosopher which rocks!!!!!

  • Sweldon514! Spot on....thanks!

  • The grudge, a resentment is like taking poison hoping the other person suffers. if you were to carry a rock the size of your grudge, you would surely lay it down...TOOL is art, music and life.

  • Realy the lyrics that you listen on tool, are not something that could be theme of discussion if you don't know what it means, because if you do it you are being another sheep. The first thing you need to do is look for expand your mind but first you consciousness, and not only be following fashions. Isn't just a matter of IQ.

  • Speak softly and carry a big grudge

  • 1... more... year. I think this song is about the universal ascension that will occur in 2012, Saturn comes around and depending on our spiritual progression we can choose how easy our ascension will be, either way everyone will progress. Accept that our ego is the only thing holding us back and get rid of it and your path will be easier. Thats just how I interpret this song. Peace and Love to all! :D

  • Songggggggggg!!!!!!!!

  • Honestly guys, if your IQ isn't 130+, then don't bother listening to Tool. If you're not an artist in your own unique way, then don't bother listening to Tool. If you can't figure out what the lyrics mean, then don't bother listening to Tool. You're only proving yourself a true idiot.

  • @DylanPlaysDrumAlot Realy the lyrics that you listen on tool, are not something that could be theme of discussion if you don't know what it means, because if you do it you are being another sheep. The first thing you need to do is look for expand your mind but first you consciousness, and not only be following fashions. Isn't just a matter of IQ.

  • banana is the apple of the ant on the pear of the peach

  • absolutely beautiful

  • @ juggalowoodly420 Thank you :] @manosarr pretty much.. i believe igs a perfect nafne. my body is my tool to experience this life. @pinkspiderable i am unsure where i am being contradictory.. have your opinions and ways, dont try to change others cause you are selfish. selfish peoplr know resprct too

  • @ juggalowoodly420

  • tool has epic album covers >.<

  • Maynard is, w/out doubt, a true master of expression & a lyrical genius; & TOOL is, & has been, the single greatest (authentic) rock band of our generation. I agree completely w/ Herinternalmisery, these lyrics are made so that we can interpret them individually & personally, & then apply them to our own circumstances.

So enough with the petty arguing! (constructive conversation aside, of course) Live your life, love yourself, and TURN UP THE F@#$ING VOLUME!

    Long Live TOOL!!!

  • @metalheadhippyheart its nice to see people who get it.

especially youtube is filled with a bunch of ignorant fans that bring tool to shame :

  • Maynard Keenan <3

  • it never seems like myy speakers never go loud enough when listening to tool

  • this song is so fukin real. true art!! original and brilliant.

  • Comment removed

  • i extremely respect what these lyrics do for me, they remind me of my own grudges and rings true in the feeling i get from this amazing song aswell,.. letiing them go is an arduous process, but in the end i have seen they do turn to gold,.. doesnt make it easy tho, it never is. and i agree with above statement, Maynard's lyrics are numerously opinionated by diff people to mean diff things,.. its all in you what you chose to see

  • I think it's "blind and innocent" instead of "light and innocent"

  • Saturn ascends

    Comes 'round again

    Saturn ascends

    The one, the ten

    Ignorant to

    The damage done

If anyone knows what he's talking about Reply to my comment and we can talk

  • @freakoutguitarsolo1 Saturn is what the God of time and the giver of life and death is called. The one and the ten are reference's to the 10 Sefirot on the Kabbalalistic tree of life. "Ignorant to the damage done" means people don't realize the damage they are doing by holding Grudges.

  • @toollag I think you are right...i looked it up and the one in the tree of life is "the crown" :D

  • I think Maynard should of had the lead in 300. A beautiful death at the whims of his voice,.,.,. pearcing

  • Tool IS Music

  • *Listens to Painkiller* "This is the most awesome scream I've EVER heard! A whole 20 seconds held perfectly!"

*Listens to The Grudge* "Whoa. 25 seconds of harsh screaming sustained perfectly. I stand corrected." :O

  • The Saturn he's talking bout isn't from Myths... The word transmutate lets me know that's he's speaking of Alchemy... In alchemy, the Saturn symbol doubles as a symbol for lead. Philosophical alchemy explains lead is a component of transformation brought about from hardening, strengthening and staunch willpower. The song is about getting over the grudge of his past lover which cheated on him... Saying it will either destroy him or better him if he chooses to get over it.

  • @fotwen <-- I'm with this guy.

  • @fotwen Saturn has many meanings and you can look at these lyrics in many ways. I accept both the mythos version and what you're talking about.

  • @Poonard That is understandable... It's art, it can be taken different ways.. That's the beautiful of art. But I still dont' go fo rthe Mythos version, doesn't make as much sense to me.. But that's just me.. Just glad ppl love this song and enjoy it.. :)

  • @fotwen i believe the saturn referred to here is the actual plant saturn . in astrology there is whats called a saturn return , were the plant saturn returns to the position it was in at your birth . this happens around age 28 , its considered a time of difficulty , where one must let go of some things to make room for the new , except unlike when you were born this time around you have a greater awareness , ( or at least hopefully ) of what responsability ( aka saturn) really is .
