I just cried my eyes out. Let's all take a moment to remember young Ryan White, for his courage and bravery. And let's thank him, because of Ryan, we still have Elton. I just wish that he could still be here, and see the impact that he made on the world. Thank you Ryan, and thank you Elton. Elton provided a lot of money and support for the White family.
I have to agree with "colbybelk." This song is essentially obscure even though it was most- apparently about wanting freedom in life and having dreams that have yet to materialize. Also it could be said to be partially a tribute to the common pigeon. However it is very fitting at this funeral and it does seem to have been waiting to be used here. In a way, I like it when songs which are abstract can be made to apply to different situations. This is a most moving performance
kiddies...LOOk--that's his REAL air..gray/white before he went i for a 'transfortion' 9some kindof wig/hair attached to his head....this is still his rEAL hir and it was white in 1990
Visit my channel and hear the first and original recording of "Skyline Pigeon" by James Roger Cooke. Predates Elton's recording of same on 'Empty Sky' by ten months.
I think his voice would of changed anyway as he got older all though he would of sounded bad compared to what he sounds like now. hard to tell. After surgery he was still taking drugs till 1990 doing damage still after his op.
Though not the best quality video, this is the most moving performance of this song I have ever seen. I've always wondered where this song fit as it is a more obscure tune, but it is almost as if it were written 20 years prior especially for this funeral. Thanks for posting.
@heyathere1000 Her name is Judith Light and she played Jeanne (Ryan's mother) in the TV show about his life and death. It's available here on youtube. Please watch it. You'll be glad you did.
@Celie3678 oh that's who it is, I thought it was Farrah Fawcett, it looks a lot like her. Oh does Ryan White play in the movie too?, I heard he played the friend of ryan in the movie.
So very many folks are NOT aware of even half of what he really went through. Thanks to the Ryan White fund created and still funded to this very day by Elton John, Me and so many others are able to receive free medical care. R.I.P. Ryan, OUR Angel. "Thanks for taking one for an ever-growing team.

Us Elton fans owe so much to Ryan White and his family. They were the main reason EJ cleaned up his life and avoided early death as so many other celebrities suffer. I have seen Elton 10 times in concert, all after 1990---meaning I probably would have never seen him if he did not go through this transition. And we get to enjoy him still to this day. How lucky we are!
Elton was facing death himself from his abuses then too glad he made it his talent never failed him

Elton John can always make an audience cry, if he went to a freaking superbowl halftime show then half the audience would be crying still.

It's true. It's a pity he hadn't quit drugs earlier (his full-range voice would probably be more or less intact nowadays :(
