You're right that people are less likely to become suicide bombers if they have a little money, but I worry that most of the money is going to weapons purchases which are going mostly to foriegners - then the weapons are used against US soldiers or other people.

Lets start with your numbers. 1 million Sunni men, wow. 5 years=1825 days divided into 1 million= 548 Sunni men dieing every single day since the war began. Thats over 15,000 Sunni males per month every month since the war began. The highest figure given during the war was during the summer of 2007 that listed 2900 killed in one month throughout Iraq. So where did you cone up with 12,000 more per month? The actual number killed due to the war is listed between 90 and 140,000.

The government is 80% Shia because the population is 60% Shia and the Sunnis boycotted the election. No we don't win in an occupation which is why a SOFA agreement will take effect in January that will allow the US to remain as guests of the Iraqi government. That is possible because both the Iraqi government and military are able to take care of themselves. (guess who is responsible for that?) No, its not Martha Stewart, guess again.

that's because a major part of winning this war is improving the economic situation for Iraqis. The U.S. is giving them money so that they will be able to invest into their communities, which will have a major impact on the level of violence.

By spending the dollars in local markets they are helping local businesses prosper, which will in time increase stability. It's quite well known that individuals are less willing to become suicide bombers if there are greater economic opportunities available.

Since the video is about a year old and Bagdad is now safe as is most of Iraq, I would say McCain had it right. However CNN deserves credit for trying thier best to make the war unwinable. Not that they were the Democrat mouth piece or anything.

Safe means an American going into Iraqi population alone without armored humvees.

Of course the more soldiers you send the more successful you become. It's a no-brainer. What McCain doesn't know is that there is absolutely NO form "winning" in an occupation.
