  • They had bongs there, my uncle attended woodstock and still has his prized bong he used there, I know because he shows it to me every time I go see him, yes turns out pot does affect shit you remember!!!!

  • I was at woodstock, im the guy waaaaaaay in the back getting conceived

  • times as well as people have changed. the 3 days peace they had here is incredibly hard to find in this generation i was born into. nothing but chaos nowadays.

  • What gorgeous, gorgeous version of this song!

  • As hard as it may be to believe, the sixties are not fictional, they actually happened-Stephen King

  • the girl in 1:29... beauty....

  • Amazing pal

  • HOLYYYYYYYY FUCCCKKK look at that crowd !!!!

  • God what a great voice..

  • Richie Havens is fucking amazing. And yes, I like him more than The Beatles.

  • Beatles are the fucking best... WHO BEATS THE BEATLES? 100s of songs.... most bands have 1 maybe 2 or 3 good songs... anybody on here know who sold the most albums of all time?

  • @GHOSTakaOzz I think it was the michael jacksson´s thriller

  • Ummm, stick with "here comes the sun"

  • If only strawberry fields had lasted forevor...

  • Hello there music appreciator.

-Do bluesy bands likes Zeppelin, Floyd, Joplin, Doors, Hendrix, and The Who give you chills? Are you physically attracted to seeking truth in music? Well I am formally inviting you to take a listen to my channel, Using your open mind take the time to hear my tunes.. your subscribtion to my channel will help me show the world my music. Much Love.

  • Didnt know there was a huge wall in front of the stage. people in front cant see the performers

  • just...wow

  • I feel this performance hit a place deep inside of me. it's just beautiful.

  • nice BONGO at 1:40

  • this song... rapes my soul

  • Best guitar player ever. Richie Havens.

  • I read this John Lennon interview the other day in which John trashed Richie, just sharing :)

"I think there’s a guy called Richie Valens, no, Richie Havens, does he

play very strange guitar? He’s a black guy that was on a concert and

sang “Strawberry Fields” or something. He plays like one chord all the

time. He plays a pretty funky guitar. But he doesn’t seem to be able to

play in the real terms at all. I’m like that."

  • @deadheaders86 Trashing him? He ends the comment saying he's just like Havens, doesn't he? Basically saying he doesn't do it the way it's "supposed to be done," he does it his own way. he also says he plays a funky guitar, which is hardly a put down.

  • Lemme try to explain, the bluenacho guy.. "you mean bluechao John?", yeah whatever. That was the first snub John pulled. Second, "a black guy", just a black guy? Sang strawberry fields OR SOMETHING? A song considered by fans and John himself to be a great work, up there with T.S. Eliot, OR SOMETHING. Playing one chord all the time? Check out a vintage Beatles song book and see if you know all the chords right away, as in Havens can not play in real terms. No WOODSTOCK=JEALOUS GUY.

  • @deadheaders86 That doesn't sound like he "trashed" Richie, Richie used open tunings and doesn't really play in real terms. John actually could but always downplayed his singing and playing.

  • @deadheaders86 he couldn't have trashed him if he said 'im like that' ??

  • Right? That's like me saying you're a poor, stupid piece of shit farmer, womanizer, raised by a single mother, with a drug problem, a bitty wife, a child you don't even allow to visit, I'm like that. John was a jealous guy. I wonder if Paul had been killed, whether John would have handled his interview any better/bitter than Paul did, which I though was pretty cold. "Yeah, real tragedy, I haven't cried yet."

  • People marvel that there was no violence at Woodstock. Maybe it has something to do with GOD being on the stage SINGING A LULLABY.

I don't imagine there were a lot of people in the crowd thinking "Now's when I should kill someone. It just feels right," during this number.

  • the chick at 1:34 kinda looks like Mila Kunis anyone agree?

  • @toomermcshockey She does!

  • @toomermcshockey True

  • @toomermcshockey And Captain Dan from Forrest Gump is behind her to the right.

  • Could be the end tune of a sad movie.... were most have to cry.

  • stop it at 1.39 is that i bong that kid has hummmmm

  • @mcrenren Haha, yes... it is! Someone else said commented something about that before a while back... but, yes! :)

  • @mcrenren what do you think? smoking a bong while watching Strawberry Fields Forever live @ woodstock would be a pretty logical thing too do aye lol

  • @danielle84nz hahahah thats true girl aww to be in the 60s

  • @danielle84nz Bongs at woodstock! How poorly mistaken you are. Joints were the name of the day.

  • TY!!! Right on man!

  • thank u ! from Brasil !!

  • No matter what song Richie chose to do, it never failed to move me! The man never makes a wrong musical move! The story is that they were having terrible trouble getting the artists to the concert site because of gridlock and they persuaded Richie to go on first - and he had to keep playing and playing until they could get other bands in!!

  • THAT IS AMAZINGLY GOOD

  • THIS IS GOOD SHIT

  • The like/dislike bar looks like a doobie ;)

  • @Rush 1013 re: government workers- Your ignorance appears boundless.

  • nice

  • is there a better version of this song?

  • @babbersabber Well this is good but i much prefer this by The Beatles

  • @babbersabber Have you tried the beatles

  • @2012dec dam I'm not supid I know the beatles, but I think his version is better than the beatles.

  • @babbersabber ..... I like Richie Havens but there is NO WAY IN HELL that this is better than The Beatles That's like saying an Apple is a better orange than an orange is (It's Just NOT true or even possible)

  • @SEVFEST Accept my opinion. I like his version more and in my eyes it's better.

  • @babbersabber ....... as the Late Great Roger Miller once sang "It Takes All Kinds To Make A World" and that being said It's your prerogative you can like anything you like even if your wrong and someone else is right ..... that's what makes this country so great!!

  • @SEVFEST right. ^^ but back to my question: is this interpretation from richie on one of his albums?

  • @babbersabber ..... I Believe the album you seek is called Richie Havens Sings Beatles & Dylan

  • Hey hey hey...wish we could go back to these times. what a voice

  • so good

  • ?? lol well, f@(k all these comment's i think i'd rather be in a damn cotton field now! What's with the arguments kewl peep's? Were all diverse and we all got different opinion's so fudge it... sometime's ya just gotta say... WHOOSAAAH! Damn i luv this song... peace!!

  • I think you need a little help from my friends and they are called REALITY!!!! Nah Im just kidding!! I totally agree.

  • @fitchett85 thumb up

  • \/ shut the fuck up \/

  • @sumthingsick123 you will never win, cunt

  • @sumthingsick123

Hahaha, you got to be kidding me. Your beyond ignorant man. Also, your posting on a video about peace and love saying we should all raise against the government with weapons. Dont fucking criticize me for being in school when you probably didnt graduate with anything over a 2.0. Ill tell you what, why dont you and your little hipster friends go and get your guns and take over the government and well see how this world will be. If its better, ill buy you a fucking drink.

  • @sumthingsick123 so, you are everywhere complicated creature, why don't you just leave people alone with their comments, if you don't like what they talk about, just shut the fuck up and eat your own shit, no one cares about what are you writing, die you SCUM!!!

  • 500,000 people living in harmony for 3 days....why did I have to miss out on this

  • 68 people... are racist?

  • Back when music was real and raw.

  • w/ a crowd like that? no wonder u'll imagine them as a strawberry field

  • @shytypeable lol nawe man its a drug trip like a acid trip with your buddys

  • Another Woodstock would do us good. :)

  • good video

  • So incredable

  • im so stoned and this is it so much better peace and love guys

  • @Lamboragon oh... uh well. you have to understand and except that i am an idiot. im the racist guy now on here lol

  • @Lamboragon im so sorry...most my friends r black. now get off the racism crap i wasnt thinking bout him even being black i thought of the song and thought it would b funny... it was afterwards i post i realized the irony. maybe if you vote down it will have a backwards affect... oh yea u know wut is racist? im fed up with alot of my on race. im not predjudice (spelling?) a bit but i hate when people talk bad bout others u feel me?

  • @Lamboragon Preach.

  • 62 people want cotten fields forever, even more need another woodstock

  • @eric81195 i thought bout it ... the problem with woodstock is that there wasnt a woodstock 1970', 71', and 72'and so forth. u shouldnt suffer something so right u know wut i mean?!

  • this version of the song will be playing at my funeral! already made the plans

  • @mistersnaredrum lol i thought the same

  • @sooperdooperfilms

60's or woodstock wasn't just about the music. it was about 'living'. in today's times few people are truly living anymore in the US...

  • dude i wish i could have been there!!

  • fuck, i wish i could have been there...

  • Anybody notice the guy taking a bong rip 1:39 into the vid?

  • @kylecochran22 hah yea, never noticed that one!

  • probably the coolest man ever! wonderful

  • i was born a few decades too late... nobody will ever look back at the current generation or modern times with nostalgia and longing for feeling 'alive' again... what would they say? 'oh i miss the old times, we'd sit at starbucks, chatting on facebook from out iphones, those the were the times..."

  • funny that there were more people who saw this live than people have watched it on youtube

  • @kukoskarsson 450,000 physical vessels attended Woostock '69...now if you count all the people in spirit watching then you're probably correct.

  • Laugh with DEAD JFK as he reveals JOHN LENNON’S ASSASSINS watch?v=akTM4CiKMcA

  • i just think he did it better than the beatles

  • look at the crowd now compare them to the crowd in the 90s

  • @xsonicyouth81 Almost none. There was tons of energy in the 90s. The internet made us big for our britches and made everything snarky and insignificant...

  • I can't find any other record of this song (regardless the documentary of woodstock 69'), so I think i can say this video is priceless!

  • 62 people want cotton fields forever

  • @jasonscottable the cotton is died green now and we are all on the plantation

  • @vauxhall908 yep

  • @jasonscottable I hardly think you can accuse people of racism because they don't like great music haha

  • @Nathanrjroche well, i thought it was pretty funny. now, dont accuse me of accusing people for racism... forget about the racism! its good music hes way too underrated and i still think its funny to say that 66 people want cotton fields forever lol. i mean would you rather have strawberry or cotton damn fields forever... and haha

  • @jasonscottable I thought you were refering to cotton picking african slaves, I am sorry for any offence. great music though yeah.

  • @Nathanrjroche yea! it was after i wrote that stupid comment that i realized the irony... its all kewl man

  • Not one hippy was obscene or weird whatsoever in this video. Why don't you take a look at the rest of that woodstock footage.

  • wtf!! so many people were there? mich hauts schier um :D

  • Richi Havens is amazing! Mr. Big fingers!

  • fucking boomers ..bunch of lazy coke-head bastards and cunts

  • @ytertyu Who are you to judge?! Don't watch the video then

  • @DINOLOVER6717 fucking greedy , lazy boomers sold America to bankers and politicians ..those pricks u see on this video .. r u retard or something ?

  • @ytertyu um no, i'm pretty sure it was the generation before them. America was already fucked over then! Hello! Vietnam! Watergate! That was definitely not the hippies fault...

  • John Lennon has been gone 30 years. That is impossible to believe. Rest in peace John and George. We love you still.

  • Music these days just isnt the same

  • Richie Havens has an amazing voice.

This version of the song is pure genius, and he is one of my favorite artists partly because of this.

  • Stop Hating Start Loving.

  • @jasonscottable Don't worry so much about the nay-sayers. Disagreeing with them is fine, but you're not going to achieve much by discussing with them. It's not our responsibility, what they feel think and say.

All we can do is actively spread positivity.

  • @WhiteWolf1088 lol im not.

  • oo shit here comes Cartman!!

  • @crazybrave1 lol, its not worth your time. Check his channel out its full of him looking for people to hate on, sucks for him. I used to act like him too, its a pretty depressing lifestyle.

  • got the chills when he started great voice wish i could of been there

  • I think he had Joe Cocker lighting his pipe!

  • jaja puro amor y paz y motociclistas viloentos que los controlan..los hell satan

  • For one...I am a VETERAN..I didnt dodge the draft or hide in Canada...sit around and listen to Beatle Albums smoking pot and taking acid and call that "revolution".

  • Check the Crowd!

  • @Lamboragon don't talk nonsense, the beatles psychedelic original is untouchable. however this is an excellent version and im sure john would have approved.

  • @ Only1Sausage. He plays mostly in Open D tuning - with his Thumb right over the

top of the guitar using it for bar chords and varying the position of his lower fingers on the high e, b and g strings. You can get his Instructional DVD from 'HOMESPUN'

    - with Happy Traum. It's difficult if your thumbs are short !

  • Does anyone know how to play this version?? even just the tuning.

    Looked everywhere.

  • Sorry but Hippies became the yuppies of the 80's (not all of them). These baby boomers left a disaster that this generation is forced to clean up.

  • @danieljh If it wasnt for the hippies, you would be under a totalitarian government (Watergate) and wouldnt have near the musical legacy you do now.

  • @academicone1

PFFFF!!! Look around. WE ARE under a corporate fascist/banker government. The baby boomers didnt accomplish shit but party and take drugs and called "revolution".

The only revolution that effects any regime change is at the end of a barrel of a gun. Period.

  • @danieljh So, IF we are under a corporate fascist/banking government, you advocate to replace it with another fascist entity. You seem to forget movements of that period which involved baby boomers who ultimately changed the course of the country. IE womens rights, civil rights, anti war. Had they not challenged the establishment (in the numbers that they did), Hoover and his minions would have eliminated descent and marched us into a autocratic militaristic government.

  • salvia.....

  • this video is inedit?

  • This is absolutely epic, but the ultimate woodstock moment would have been if John Lennon had written Imagine a year earlier and played it there with just him and his white piano. That would have been tears & heaven.

  • i would give anything to get rid of all forms of government and racism and just all come together like that and listen to music smoke weed and do acid forever and be HAPPY :) ...RIP john lennon

  • @noah933 then your a hippy

  • @noah933 If only everyone would work together, stupid black people these days.

  • @noah933 that makes absolutely no sense

  • Comment removed

  • @noah933 I agree to you comment. Unlike the other hyperactive tweeners who said it makes no sense, it obviously does. Clearly those people don't know peace like we want it to be. Simple, and carefree. Should I have to go through signing papers to put on record just because I love someone and want to marry them? That there shows how much the government likes to keep tabs on everybody. I'm not saying it's unfair, but it's just not necessary at all. One love.

  • @noah933 : i'm guessing your a democrat. what you don't realize is that dems want more government.

  • @noah933 true but as bad as i hate to admit it, we have to have some sort of government/formation, even though they are a bunch of dipshit/greedy bastards for the most part. I mean we need hospitals, food, shelter, clothes, and a military to back us up just in case other countries dont feel the same as we do while we are high off our asses lol. The government is sort of a necessary evil, if you will. Dont get me wrong, Id love to plant my own crops, raise my own livestock, bargain and trade with

  • @noah933 my neighbor etc. etc. but sad enough, its never been that way and therefore never will be. Its always been the rich getting richer, making the poor work their asses off for them, only to get poorer, and i dont see much changing. But anyhow I feel ya bro, know what you mean, I reminence back in the day too, more so to when I was a kid and life was care-free, i could play all day, had energy all the time, and most importantly i was happy all the time unless i was sick

  • @noah933

You do realize you would be fucked without the government? Im all for peace and love but it really ticks me off with so many kids in my high school who are all "anti government." Without any form of government we would be living in chaos. What we need to do is CHANGE the governments, not get rid of them!

  • @Rush1013 Amen to that brother. The American Constitution was beautify written, it's only when politicians try to tweak it that problems arise. The laws have swung so far in favor of the uber rich top 1% that it's disgusting, and people don't even notice.

  • @madchemist5926

Absolutely, today most governments revolve around fat cat politicians and the wealthy. What we really need is a completely corruption free, all for the people government. Although i doubt that will ever happen. If people cared half as much about this as they do the newest electronics and TV shows it would be easily achievable.
