well hold on.. I have a diesel, and i understand that the black cloud is caused by unburnt fuel, just the work to conver a diesel engine... seals, filter, injector pump... is a lot of money and work
congrats! haha good old vag-com a must have for jetta tdi. I am building a jatta tdi project myself. Do you know how much hp before the conrods break, and how much boost was that?
tdi forum has discussed max torque before rods go. It's over 300hp. I run 27psi max although I have peaked over 30psi a few times before I got a boostvalve - I highly recommend them.
We converted the car. It began as a 2.0 and we pulled the engine, modified the wiring harness and put a TDI in. At the time of the dyno it had a VNT20 turbo, pp520 injectors, 11mm injector pump, a lift pump, RC4+ chip and a FMIC. I've made some changes and not it really rocks - well over 200hp and much less smoke.
What is the difference between tdi with 90 and 110bhp and 130bhp? fueling or fueling and bigger intercooler with more boost?
Will the standard fuel system work with bio on an 130bhp 05 tdi (I think, the engine is NOT transverse- in a passat, the newer ones r transverse), or must pipes be changed.
if I pull my choke, on my golf mk3 TDi, and rail it in 3rd, I get a nice plume of smoke, keeps the tailgaters off =) and I feel good about the fact that I just burn physically less fuel volume, which equates to less hydrocarbons (see bernoulli's energy law for that one) Its a wonderful thing, also, in Biodiesel, a lot of that smoke is condensed plant matter, not just catalyzed fuel... Diesel = better
well, ok.. my point is that using biodiesel produces about 30% less carbon dioxide; but it produces as much hydrocarbon and more nitrogen oxides than fossil diesel.
FYI mechanical components aren't rated by HP but by their torque capacities so the "forums" are garbage.

i dont think running it on biodiesel helps much if half of it still leaves as a black cloud.. guess its the thought that counts
hgdf 3 years ago
@hgdf .. the black smoke comes from the tuning, not from the bio-diesel ..

Your right.. Sorry, I read what I said in my first comment. This is was a cool project though, and I'm planning on doing similar with my TDi

thanks! They are even better now. My guess is 370.

For more info, google tdi forum. You'll get all the info you ever wanted on TDIs there.

If you do some reasearch you will find that H2O is the biggest greenhouse gas in the atmosphere. Even your famed Al Gore admitted that...
On the other hand that is a nice TDI, I think it would be sweet to have a TDI that could put out that amount of smoke :)

What do u mean pull ur choke on a diesel?
They dont have chokes on diesels.
tpvalley 4 years ago
Interesting, tell that to the funny lever I pull to start my 1994 Golf TDi
shmackahippie 4 years ago
Curiously enough, the owners manual even says " Using the Choke for Cold Starting"
Same with the one on my Lincoln Electric Diesel Welder =P

thats why it doesn't impress me at all.

wow a nice alternative to keep on polluting...
diesel greenhouse gases + particulate emissions sucks ass.
even if its biodiesel

its actually better for the enviroment than the invisible exhaust gases from a petrol engine
