The breeders said "the females fight and thats why" but its a lie, mine never fought. The breeders dont like it that the females groom each other and cause imperfections in the coat. I got these cheap because the male was the wrong colour( he was cinnamon) and the females had stopped breeding. But once they had their collars off and and a proper cage all together, they had babies 2x a year. And to think they were garbage to a fur breeder.
i got 1male and 2females from a fur breeder and rescued them. For $8 dollars each. They are treated despicably, they keep them in banks of 4 tiny cages, 3 males to one female, with holes in the cages for the males to go through to breed. The females have to wear these horrible metal collars to keep them from moving between cages. The collars i cut off with tinsnips and the cage went into recycling.
@limefrog777 well done for rescuing those Chinchillas. I cannot understand how in the 21st century we have Chinchilla Fur Farms which are still legal in the USA and seal clubbing which is still legal in Canada ... a f****ng disgrace
I want one o bad but i dont have $150 to get one then plus you gotta buy a cage wich costs about $40 just for the age so riht around $200 for a chinchilla but i found a breeder thats gonna sell me one for just $100 in trade for a Skink
in the pet shop.. duh. isnt that kinda obvious? i start out with 2 chinchillas and now i got 4... cuse the mom gave birth to two babies. SRY! i dont kno how to put it up on youtube. still its really cute
search stuff about introducing chinchillas on google.. you can find lots of advice.. you cant just put them together though they might fight.. you have to quarantine them and then get them used to eachother in seperate cages.. but its a nice idea because chinchillas like to be in pairs it helps them cope with stress. :)
yeah they nibble..but if your mean to them, they feel threaten then they will try to bite you if you come at it too fast..but they are really sweet and loving animals..i have one who is 3 yrs old..he's blind though

You could get them from breeders.
They are usually healthier, happier, and are already used to other chinchillas if you decide to get another one.
