If it is incapable of this then really it is just an object. Since Mazinger can't even move without the pilder would that not mean that it is essentially incomplete without it? @noncannonfireworks Mazinger is incomplete without the Pilder just as any combination is not complete without all the proper mecha. Getter is just adding an extension cord to it (the third machine to the mix). The Getter machines are not complete until combined. And as to Tetsujin it is a different concept (by a small margin) but similar to Mazinger as in Shin Mazinger Kouji's grandpa moved it with external controls but it doesn't follow on in the sense of combining mecha.

Not at full power, but certainly not helpless.. As for the developments in Shin Mazinger I think that it makes a good point that alot of technical details aren't really important in super robot shows. Especially at this point. I would have to say that for ideas sake Mazinger got there first but Getter definitely developed it.

@Irrelevant402 Getter 3's always got the shaft in the manga. I can think of how a powerhouse type with missle launchers could be very useful in a battlefield situation. PS don't call it Getter Gai. That was the stupidist part of this show.
I have to admit, Getta Robo Gou is the only series I haven't watched in full (though I have read the manga) and so don't have as much love for it as the other series but it still looks pretty cool. :)
Getta Robo was the first combiner. 3 ships can combine to 3 different robots and from then on more versions of it came like Getta Robo G, Shin Getta Robo, Neo Getta Robo and more. Then other bots like Nadesco's Geki Ganger and Aquarion came. We can expect more of these mechas to come.

Mazinger Z doesn't have a built in pilot station and thus can't be controlled without the pilder (thought this proved invalid in later incarnations of the franchise). Getter Robo's Machines have their own pilots, one for each part of the robot.
Mazinger Z is only the first humanoid robot to be fully piloted by a human begin.

If it is incapable of this then really it is just an object. Since Mazinger can't even move without the pilder would that not mean that it is essentially incomplete without it? Much like considering a fuse and a plug to be two separate machines combined rather than as a part of a working hole?

@noncannonfireworks Mazinger is incomplete without the Pilder just as any combination is not complete without all the proper mecha. Getter is just adding an extension cord to it (the third machine to the mix). The Getter machines are not complete until combined. And as to Tetsujin it is a different concept (by a small margin) but similar to Mazinger as in Shin Mazinger Kouji's grandpa moved it with external controls but it doesn't follow on in the sense of combining mecha.

@VegetaTheInsanity I'm not sure if I would be inclined that way, I would have to point out that the separate Getter Machines can all function and attack separately as jets. Not at full power, but certainly not helpless.. As for the developments in Shin Mazinger I think that it makes a good point that alot of technical details aren't really important in super robot shows. Especially at this point. I would have to say that for ideas sake Mazinger got there first but Getter definitely developed it.

Getta Robo was the first combiner. 3 ships can combine to 3 different robots and from then on more versions of it came like Getta Robo G, Shin Getta Robo, Neo Getta Robo and more. Then other bots like Nadesco's Geki Ganger and Aquarion came. We can expect more of these mechas to come.

@VegetaTheInsanity Actually, when it comes to combining machines they literally ment combining the team work of the pilots of those machines. Mazinger Z doesn't have a built in pilot station and thus can't be controlled without the pilder (thought this proved invalid in later incarnations of the franchise). Getter Robo's Machines have their own pilots, one for each part of the robot.
Mazinger Z is only the first humanoid robot to be fully piloted by a human begin.

If you see New Getter Robo Musashi was doing all three on his own. Even in Shin Getter Robo Sekai Saigo No Hi (Armaggedon). They were using the mechs without the other pilots.

Even if the Getter machine where to work with only one pilot, it can only use a third of it's power (As reference in New Getter Robo). Even in the Manga Musashi have a problem fighting off the dinos (along with Shin vs. Neo).

@bdpickett It actually does since even TV tropes lists Mazinger Z as a sub category as a very basic form of combiners. Getter made it famous but even things like Astro Boy did it before Getter. Mazinger was made before Getter not the other way around so therefore it predates Getter in the basic sense of combining. It is two sepreate machines making a giant "functioning" robot.

@bdpickett You don't seem to understand that even Combining Mecha has it's basics. Getter was not a basic combiner. And if you say SUPER ROBOT then it may as well be Mazinger since he was the first SUPER ROBOT. There were robots before but Mazinger set the standards. And he "combined" with the Pilder so therefore he is a combiner. Just the most basic form. Getter is a complex one in that the same three jsts make three different robots with three sets of their own weapons.
