  • Yeah, yr ago Kevs, what's yr point? The name is not the point in those who identify with the lyrics. If your name happens to coincide with Luka, so what?

  • @TheBerg2574 I was answering someones question. Why are you so defensive about a song that you didn't write ?

  • one of the greats

  • This son its so good it akes

  • hmm i like this song after hearing homer simpson sing it lol

  • this girl is JUST GREAT

  • very good !

  • This is a tear jerker. The only way this could be better is if there was no back up band.

  • My name is Luka too (:

  • Thumbs if the Simpsons brought u here

  • oh sorry.................

  • To clear things out, This song is about Child Abuse but in real life Suzanne Vega said that Luka is just an ordinary boy who lives near them before.

  • Great song, but so sad...

  • My name is Luka

  • @blogJM so is mine :)

  • 12 points from germany gose to my name is luka!!!!!!!

  • Awesome song. Marvellous singer. :-)

  • my name is lukaaaa :)))

  • o my god normally i don't like this kind of music but i start crying from this song

    :)...

  • my name is Luka

  • Hermosa canción, me hizo salir de la cama!

  • my name is Luka too... ;) great song

  • I think the guistart is doing a great job.

    Nice song

  • Still, let's live.

  • man that drummer just doesnt have the feel of the original at all..voice is still great though

  • terrible, horrible, disgusting, ignoble sound on the electric guitar. it kills the song.

  • gooooooood

  • Loving this song since my childhood. Never been a real Vegafan, but this one's just brilliant !

  • my brother call luca because this songs.

I know its Luka but here in brazil is better and more beatiful Luca.

  • @de80xD

  • Wonderfull!!

she's very talented, love it (8

  • remembering the time when i was in baguio, philippines and im drunk on that moment of time, i meet a girl named luka! ( luka -luka) heheheh!

  • So easy and good to listen song

  • te amamos aqui no brasil

  • Great timeless tune! Love Suzanne's voice and spirit.

  • doo da dooo doo da doooo!!!

  • Maravilhosa esta musicaaaaaaaa

  • The anthem for childhood abuse and neglect.

  • what a class song from a fantastic singer -songwriter..

  • 2:00 - 2:27....

  • "just dont argue any more"

right after hubby figured out my "stand there and look aggrevated" look :P

  • For all those disagreeing Suzanne said herself it was about abuse in general.

  • @Kevsgirl234 is this song about Luka Magnotta the male model, I heard it was written for him when he was younger. Luka is my idol.

  • Sorry, just use google hun you are wrong. She got the name from a little boy named Luka that lived in the same building as her. He was not abused to her knowledge, but she liked the name. Initially, the song was written about child abuse, but once Suzanne saw the impact it had on people she later stated that it the lyrics were anti-abuse across the board. All you have to do is google to see that it is not about the model Luka. Have a great day :)

  • @Kevsgirl234 Yeah my guess is that this kid was from a refugee family from Sarajevo. Hope he made out good. NYC is good at taking in people..after he learned English he would be OK.

  • @Kevsgirl234 I don't know if the song has to do with child abuse or not. I do know it's a fucking, awesome song!

  • @Kevsgirl234 how you know this?

  • @elizabethosler It has been spoken by Suzanne in several interviews

  • @takemybreath57 nope wrong

  • "They only hit until you cry

And after that you don't ask why

    You just don't argue anymore

    You just don't argue anymore"

The song is about domestic violence. The song was written about life on the Lower East Side of Manhattan before it got trendy

  • Love t his song,

    and has a few meanings

    that boggles the mind.

  • She's very pretty! I love the song. Obrigado Krad! Where does this video come from? I'd like to listen to the full concert :)

  • bass is very high..

i think if he erred a bit he would fuck up everything.. lol

    btw

    love this song.. :)

  • cool basslines

  • lol this woman must have a bad childhood? its a beautiful song though @dolhpin read what little rhubarb said

  • that is an interesting bassline

  • I had a Blue Point Siamese cat named Luca; I wanted to go with this spelling rather than Luka.

  • does anyone know what the hell shes on about? whats with the troublesome kind of fright in the middle of the night??

  • child abuse

  • The lyric is -

If you hear something late at night

Some kind of trouble. some kind of fight

It's about child abuse, listen again and it will make sense.

  • It's called a metaphor. Compare: "They only hit until they cry..." with the line you're questioning about. You can see it's lines about child abuse.

  • @roxcyn no, spousal abuse... her boyfriend or husband beats her

  • @roxcyn listened to this for years but admit I got it wrong, it is about child abuse.....

  • baš tako

  • Beautiful woman and music!!!

  • This is the royal tennis hall, we dont have anyone living here <3

  • magifique chanson i'm fan

  • This live version really shows off a beautiful running bass through the song. I mean WOW it sounds so cool and carries this performance. Especially since that lead guitar really sucks in sound quality...man did he blow..could he not hear how lame he sounds?....Thank God for Suzanne and that bass

  • I totally agree with you, the bass iss amazing :-)

  • I am also Luka!

  • do you know who Luka Magnotta is ???

  • yeah but u are male and she is female. are u from the Balcans?

  • what??? Im sorry for u!!! Are u ok? If you need some help I would like to help you? Always are an answer and exit...

  • WTF my name is luka!

  • she is amazing!

    and the song just BRILLIANT!

  • What year was this filmed?

  • I've always liked her. I agree, she is beautiful

  • no.

she is ... divinely gorgeous, is what she is!

  • makes meh cry TT-TT it's so sad and so real

  • When was this recorded and where?

  • I think this may be the 2004 Montreaux performance.

  • she's beautiful!!!!

  • My name is Luka, i come from east europe. I have never heared that some girl has a name Luka, Luca or something like that. So this here doesn't make much sense

  • I see you live in Croatia. I have plans to visit there in the next coming year or so. :)

"Luka" is about loneliness, detachment, yearning and wanting.

Names are irrelevant in this song, Its more of a metaphor.

Anyway, greetings from England, i know you have struggled. Peace.

  • thanks for the explanation

but it's just a funny coincidence to see your name in some foreign song. Especially because it's not a popular name for girls

  • she sing about a boy...

  • Checked her bio (one of many) which says she wrote the song "in the first person".

  • Check her bio.--It says she wrote the song "in the first person", so maybe she sees it as a name that is universal, so to speak.-- It is in fact a brilliant piece of songwriting about child abuse. --- Thanks.

  • good ;)

  • i agree

  • This song always makes me cry. I have learned about early age neglect and psychological abuse and trauma. This song helps release the pain I have suppressed and did not even known it.

It s about a boy that is being abused by his father or mother and decides to not argue or just don't ask me how I am..because he has not learned how to deal with his needs. Sounds familiar?

  • fantastic! yes, it's an important song, too...

  • I love this song knowing more about how this song was made. this must inspire us to love more our children.

  • his song was one of the earliest to deal with child abuse and domestic violence. One critic said, "the 'happy' music is a metaphorical denial, making this seem beautiful and serene while discussing something terrible and devastating.

    *wiki* ^^

  • What's exactly the history about this song? Did she got beatten by her husband??

  • she was probably abused

  • It's about child physical abuse, and the narrator is a boy. Luka is an east European variant of Luke and is always a boy's name.

  • Luka ain't always a boys name, fifty% of the cases its a girlsname

  • my name's luka, n i live on the second floor....this song's about me!

  • hahahaha

  • Susan is great!! The best one!!

  • ile ja sie tego oszukałem!!!! Smutne ale piekne!!!

  • por vezes procuramos tão longe o que esta tão perto e mesmo a mão de semear, são aquelas pequenas lições de vida que nos fazem ficar mais espertos e fortes.

  • This song is so sad but i love it... 10/10

  • One of my favorite songs of all time.

  • nice

  • pell de gallina

  • what's wrong with parents spanking their kids? spanking a child and abusing is two different things.

  • That's what most don't understand, the two are different. I'd feel better about parents getting on their kids case than the law, gangs, and/or drug dealers.

  • We're on the same page! Often times the neglect of children in a modern society is commonplace. Sad to say, but very true. On one hand you have children that want and need a guiding hand, and then you have children that only want their parents to give them money and little else.

  • At the end of the day, if you're a good parent, nobody will have to "get on" anybody.

  • I like this song, it has a perfect beating that harmonized with Suzanne Vega angelic soft voice, thanks for uploading this music.

  • Love Suzanne Vega. But I have to say that snare drum sounds atrocious.

  • Yes the damn snare, and for that matter, drums are out of place in this song at all.Drums are like a narcotic that we can't seem to shake.Try listening to John Mayalls' 1970 album "Turning Point" for a great example of music without drums.

  • perfeito (BrAsIlLLllLL

  • Great live version! Well sung :)

  • ....wow, thats pretty weird, huh? lol!

  • are you saying your parents beat you?

  • Haha, no. I know that's what the song was made about, but that's not the case. Other than that, everything else in the song fits in perfectly with my personality. :P

  • jeez.....................

  • It's a wonderful tune, but as a parent, it's hard to listen to at times. But great stuff nonetheless.

  • Hey, Bassman! Is that a Gibson the other guitarist is playing? A Rickenbaker?

  • what the hell r u talking about?!

  • Oh, I see from your post that you weren't actually saying you were playing bass in Vega's band in this vid. I withdraw the question, but hopefully someone else watching this can tell me if it's a Gibson. Someone?

  • It should be a rickenbacker

  • Thanks, I thought that's what it most likely was.

  • the electric guitar looks modifyed, do you see the appliance switches on the pick guard?

    they look sweet
