  • Glen Royer here, just want to say that the Northern Pikes were THE band of the day hands down!!! they got signed on the strengh of their great live show and the catchy songs, case closed. They were and still are in my opinion one of the BEST bands to ever come out of Canada and for me personally ( and i am sure i speak for most if not all of the members of Greenhouse and New Concept) were an inspiration for our OWN live performances and songwriting back in the day.Thank you guys, your still #1

  • i hate how canadian bands are soooooo underrated. some shitty pop singers like adele or bruno mars are sooo "popular" but their music sucks. Fuck shitty modern pop music!

  • Very awesome and underrated band. Riffs and general ideas stolen. Much replicated. Huh;...

  • my dad produced these guys for a period of time ! :}

  • I have always loved this song. I saw them live, opening up for Peter Frampton many years ago and I thought they sounded really good. I am also surprised they were never really heard of outside of Canada.

BTW, the lead singer in this video always reminded me of Emelio Estevez in the Breakfast Club. Just saying...

  • I seen them a few times in clubs. They never got "respect" because their live shows had poor vocal quality. I love the pikes don't get me wrong. They just didn't get it done live... and it cost them.

  • Give me a billy idol bass line.....and steve stevens guitar riffs...

  • I forgot how good this tune was -

  • The Pikes were underrated.

  • listen to that old analog sound on a 128 mixer..nothing else sounds like that!..thx for posting the original release..no digital..it sounds great on headphones!!!

  • If you have the chance, go check out the Live version of "Teenland" on the 1993 compact disc "Gig". At 3:33 in the song, the guys roll into a spoken/guitar backed version of "Young Man Blues" which leads directly into the BRILLIANT cover segment of the guitar-laden "(Ghost) Riders In The Sky". Wow !! Bryan delivers some fierce guitar work here !! Truly a gem to be found on the CD and within this classic song !!

  • My childhood right here! Nostalgia...

  • @Royfokker73 ..my thoughts exactly

  • eye luv diss bann

  • Woo-hoo! The Canadian take on "REM"... I LOVED this group and had two of their CDs... :-)

  • Loved it back in the day and have just rediscovered it!!! :)

  • Good guitarist!

  • 23 years later, this song still delivers.

  • haha still looks awesome as the 1st time...jus snapping n jammin lol

  • Just lovin this tune...damn.

  • Hey kids check out my playlist >>the CANADIAN treasure list

  • I love the "Kevin Bacon " moves (Footloose) that Merl Bryck had goin' on ! LOL

The 80s were so lame but I sure do miss them!

  • I miss the Pikes.

  • Is there any bad Canadian music?

  • @sergestorm67 Celine Dion...lol

  • @sergestorm67 Avril Lavigne, Justin Bieber, Simple Plan, All Time Low, Marianas Trench, shall I go on?

  • This song kicked ass when it first came out and still holds up....I remember being SO disappointed when I heard She Ain't Pretty later on.....

  • WICKED SONG!!!

  • whaaaaaa? freuadian

  • this song kicks ASS!!

    GO CANADA!!

  • Great song from Canada, from back in the day.

  • That bass line is so catchy and awesome.

  • Great song. Pretty cheesy back then, but now a solid hit. Great guitars.

    Drink u.. and drown

    Drink u.. and drown

  • Haha - that's not Kevin Bacon - it's Emilio Estevez....

  • Cool, but Kevin Bacon looks so weird singing this!!

Look... I know it was a joke.

  • Cool song, first time I heard it - before I realised what the title was - I was trying to work out who 'Gene Landau' was

  • i want to hear The Strokes cover this

  • good call

  • lol. i know there freind. robert. hes my teacher. sorda creapy...

  • I agree, enialbsitruc, they were successful but not as successful as they deserved to be. I met the guys just for a few minutes in Halifax, NS after a show, and they were very down to earth and friendly. Yes, long live the Pikes!

  • man this song has some rippin bass

  • so true. The guitar sounds amazing when it adds the odd riff here and there, too

  • what goes around comes around; I heard this song recently and until the chorus thought it was new :O

  • Is it Jay or Bryan on lead vocals?

  • Jay Semko on vocals.

I get a kind of creepy sad feeling whenever I hear these guys. One of the best Canadian bands, but never got as big as they deserved to.

The 80's and 90's had so many great Canadian talents. I may be out of touch, but who do we have now?

  • blue rodeo, tragically hip, are they cdn, i think they are not positive but they are pretty damned good too

  • hell ya they are... and better than most US stuff too

  • Actually, it's Merl Bryck on lead vocals. Now that he is no longer with the Pikes, Jay Semko sings this one when they perform it live. He (Jay) also sang lead on it long before it ended up on the Pikes debut album, but the version that the fans know from the video, album, single, and most tours (except recently since Merl left) is with Merl Bryck singing lead.

  • @themiff I do remember seeing their She Ain't Pretty video on The Nashville Network in the early 90's,but Northern Pikes had so much more deeper material than that.

  • It is Jay on the bass, Bryan on the lead, and neither on lead vocals. That is Merl Bryck on lead vocals. Thats one of the reasons why this band was so special-3 good vocalists. jay wrote most of the songs, Bryan had that rippin' lead guitar, and Merl could really sing. But Jay was the John Lennon of the band, definitely. I am from their home town, and it's a shame they never got the respect they deserved. Long live the Pikes!!!!!

  • @enialbsitruc Thanks for the review. I grew up with them, but didn't appreciate them then. I love them now, though. I grew up in Montreal where many great Canadian singers, songwriters and bands have emerged, but I think I can understand how it nuar feel when something great emerges from your home town regardless of its size.

  • Ha! I just saw this video this morning on Much More Music. :) It's an excellent song from an excellent Canadian band. :)

  • I loved this track!

  • I've seen the Pikes in Theatre Outremont in 1992 ou 93 if I remember. Great song, great band live.

  • OMG!!!! i used to love this song!!!!!

  • still classic!!!

  • Great song...even greater memories.

    Classically Canadian!

LOVE the "typical white-guy dance" starting at 2:30...LMAO!!:D

  • Man I love this tune...sounds like it would make a killer rocked up cover.

  • It's too much! So cheesy!!! I love it.

  • I have this album on blue vinyl...I feel old as well...lol

  • Great Band , Weren't They ?! Good New Canadian Sound in the mid 80's....Got The "lime Green" Edition of their following album wich was recorded live in a studio... (this means that the final take of each songs that you get on this album was played as it is in studio) later sound is polished and then Pressed on tape... By the way "Things I do for Money" should be a canadian classic..Wonderfull Guitar Sound from those Yamaha Twin Effect Amplifiers...great vid by the way.

  • saskatchewan! sorry I spelled it wrong

  • They still tour in Saskathawan. In the Prairies. Cheers Canada

  • Simply awesome.

  • they opened for bowie once. they had three lead singers -- this guy was on bass -- he does look alot like emilio estevez ! this is one of their best ones. sad innocent song, really. totally sums up small-town canadian life in the 80's

  • looks like emilio estevez hahahha

  • This is soooooo 80's

  • Coming from the U.S., I never was able to see any Pikes videos. Always loved this song. Thank you, I enjoyed it!

  • killer song! gotta keep my eye on when they're coming to Brandon

  • better than zeppelin !!!

  • Awesome song. This and "She Ain't Pretty" are two killer tracks. Thanks for posting, and Thank You PIKES.

  • I think that is Merl doing the lead singing on Teenland.

  • These guys were in Winkler for the Harvest Festival in 2005. They were awesome!!

  • Woot, im on a comeback in finding my favorite songs I used to love!

  • Ah, the gospel according to the Northern Pikes. I used to have hair like that....I used to have hair.

  • man

    i have looked for this...

i am in it as an extra...guy with black cap... 20 yrs ago what memories

  • These guys are awesome. I got them live about a year or 2 ago at a local baseball stadium as part of a promotion for the baseball club. They haven't lost anything. They rocked out, big time.

I'll never figure out why, as cinchbassist puts it, such solid Canadian talent too often goes unnoticed in the States. These guys put out solid hits.

  • Northern Pikes had such a good solid rock sound. It's a shame that a lot of our homegrown Canadian talent goes unnoticed in the States. thesoundradio. com cinchband

  • This band is another example along with Rush, The Tragically Hip, Voivod and many others too many to mention is why Canada has, per capita, the most talent anywhere.

  • When I was a silly little girl I didn't like this song because of the line "I need cigarettes." lol :p

  • Now i know why Saskatchewan is so great to be from, we have a that big sky with sunshine...lol. I am such a dork. I just noticed that in some of the Pikes videos they feature the famous 'living skies' of saskatchewan...i'm showing sum luv for sask...lol

  • Oh my god!! Loved this song back then. Odd though it had a mid90's feel for it looking back. I bet if they had released it in 94 in the grunge time, it would have made a bigger hit. I miss the Canadian 80's stuff!!Thanks kurdtss!!

  • Wow, I still get weak in the knees when I see Merl do his dance moves in this video.

  • Canadian music was so cool in the 80s.

  • Still holds up now.

  • thanks for the vid, from a hometown boy as the PIKES !!! GO Saskatoon!!!

  • Great song off Big Blue Sky. Things I Do For Money is still my favourite from that that release, but this is the song that introduced the Pikes to Canada...and the world. Thanls again!

  • annother killer Canadian Find wtg kurdstt..thanks for posten..Pikes fit in nicely on mixed tape with likes of the hooters and the outfield..memories flooden back..thanks so much..u never cease to amaze..u been knocken em out of the park lately..blue rodeo..rough trade..red rider,,awesome stuff kurdtt thanks again
