  • someone enlighten me, how is it done??

  • @DTheMonk Where's the fun there?

  • 4 dislikes? a mistake surely?

  • how the hell is he doing that!?!?!

  • @Bordicci I guess the shape of the aquarium is an illusion, and also somebody is in the dark helping him.

  • You know a trick is impressive when it produces the "Oooh! Gasp! Gush!" noise. Even I made that stupid noise when I saw this for the first time.

  • Saw it on the rio show... It was AWESOME!

  • @Jenrageify we need a time warp or HD cam on teller hands. Too fast and cunning this teller

  • I cry every time I see this. Pure Disney magic.

  • I was talking to a magician today and he said that the coins are behind the chair and there is a mirror in the tank and when he steps on a peddle it goes down allowing the fish to get out

  • Fuckin goldfish how do they work?

  • anyone who watches these guys knows that they use an actor as the "random" audience member...

and the rest, i do believe uses magical powers from the dark ages, handed down from wather to son for generations. this is also very obvious

  • @jacko1423 they have no need for an actor in this trick......

  • @Tomm0509 well im retty sure its an actor...

because i saw this trick on tv the other night and straight away came on here to watch it, both of the audience members did the same movements and expressions that allowed teller do do the trick the exact same way.

yeah i know that teller doesnt need an actor for it. but i know that they use one. mabye so the way the trick is done isnt revealed to a random audience member

  • @jacko1423 Haha, you may be right. I just saw it on TV for the Royal Variety Show in the UK and the audience member chosen also had glasses. Maybe more to do with the showing off with the glasses lenses-coin bit. Either way, mad respect for these two... absolute genius!

  • the only conclusion i can get to is that the water box thingy isn't transparent but instead it has some kind of screen on it that shows stuff... it might be full of coins and penn could be controlling the screen

  • Some kinda god dang coin fish

  • Teller's making it rain!

  • Schism - Tool intro? haha!

  • Nice intro music.

  • that is just amazing

  • Teller does that on one of the Penn and Teller: Fool Us episodes. He also reviles it in another YouTube video but I won't say what it's called otherwise I willed probably get in trouble.

    PENN AND TELLER ARE AWESOME!!!!!!!

  • I WILL see them live. I swear it.

  • this trick always baffles me... amazing

  • @CODcollections Obviously the coins are produced by (amazing) sleight of hand, some produced from pockets, behind the chair etc. the goldfish is different however, but i don't want to spoil it for you, i've seen this trick several times and even though i know how it's done, i still always gasp a little at that part, just truly beautiful magic.

  • throughout the main body of this routine, the viewers are laughing and clapping at a display of teller's unsurpassed talent as an illusionist and performer. but listen when the goldfish appear -- the entire audience gasps involuntarily. to me, that moment is where magic truly lies, when expectations are suddenly upended and a beautiful, dazzling act takes your breath away.

i've seen penn & teller perform twice at the rio in las vegas. i can't recommend their act highly enough.

  • teller must have sleight of hand pro :P

  • what does Penn say to the lady after he told her to watch her step...its wreckin my head

  • @Leannehugspeople Watch your step Marsha, there's not a reason on Earth for you to own the Ed Sullivan theatre. (presumably referring to the fact if she'd trip she's likely to sue...)

  • Teller: Honest and innocent coin magic and then FISH! :D x

  • I heard Ricky Jay first taught Teller how to do Sleight Of Hands, and Teller just mastered and created his own technique. Not sure if it's true or not, I just read it somewhere. So if anyone has the answer to that, I'd really appreciate it. Ricky Jay, Penn & Teller are my favorite magicians.

  • If you watch carefully, you never actually see his right hand, it's just a reflection. See how it's the exact same shape as his left hand?

  • i saw him do that trick last night on 'Fool Us' it's such a beautiful illusion that I dont even want to know how it's done.

    Pretty fishies :)

  • Many of you may know how this is done...but the magic is in the doing. Teller is brilliant in his delivery and it should be enjoyed. Knowing how it is done and doing it are very different things.

I know when I hit a key on a piano that a hammer raises, hits a string and a note comes out...but it doesn't make me Mozart.

  • @stujoce Well said sonny jim

  • @stujoce Best comparison ever. It really is one thing to be able to say you can do something, but a whole different thing entirely to be able to do that particular something well, or in this case, beautifully.

  • @stujoce Im 15 And ive practiced this trick. I know how it is done. And i still cant figure it out. Even with the coin dropper i dont get how he can hide all those coins in his hand. And the fish blew my fuckin mind.

  • Teller's sleight of hand is always so beautiful!

  • Anybody notice the Tool-Schism playing?

  • @TheUniverse101 lol yeah when they walked out ay

  • i freaking love penn and teller!!!!!

  • There is a mirror in the water tank.

The coins and fish are behind it so he grabs them with his right hand while the refelction of his left makes it look like you can see both.

  • @DeMause That's exactly what I think..

  • Witch! Burn him!

  • can anyone explain how he catches the coin in the air? googling tells me to hide the coin between the thumb and palm. @ 1.49 his palm looks empty though

  • @Emulation123

If you're going to be a magician, it's one of the first sleights you'll learn. If not, you shouldn't bother asking.

  • @Emulation123 I watched that bit over and over! The coin wasn't in his hand XD Skills, man... That man has skills XD Haha!

  • Excellent work guys

Saw Penn and Teller live last night in Orlando

    They were brilliant

  • When he does the thing with the glasses look at the hand holding the fish bowl

  • That is so good!

  • There's a talk he gave at some symposium - a clip is on YouTube somewhere, look for it - where he does a similar illusion without the fish but explains it.

  • at 2.50 he moves something on the rim of the tank with his elbow right before the fish come down.

  • @devilononeshoulder *sad face* No need to spoil :(

  • at 2.50 he moves something on the rim of the tank right before the fish come down.

  • They're Tool fans too?!?! Geez I love these guys!

  • Saw Penn and Teller at the Rio a few days ago. Gotta say... think it is the same woman they used used then. Anyone else seen them do this live who can comment? Still an amazing trick though, there were 3 or 4 tricks that just beggared belief.

  • Thumbs up if you appreciate Tool's "Schism" as their intro music!

  • I think he's getting some coins from behind her on the chair and some in the sectioned off half of the tank. At 1:50 he puts both hands in, one in the water filled half we see and one in the back holding some coins. You can see he occasionally reaches behind the chair. Wonderful trick.

  • Simply amazing. Can't wait to actually see them live.

  • Aquarium is half in the stage and half back stage.

  • @theaznfishy The way I see it, the aquarium is split in the middle, with only one half full of water (the half facing us audience), while the other is empty with coins and some gadget to release the goldfish. Than Teller just uses his excellent palming techniques to sell it. It's a magnificent trick.

  • @warrush You may be the only person in the world to grasp the idea of true misdirection. Plus, that is the most unique explanation I have ever read. It is interesting to note that the camera does not show the top edge when the fish are released.

  • teller must be the greatest sleight of hand artist alive today

  • They are not magicians, because they are wizards

  • HOLY BANANAS!

  • zOMG! Where did dem goldfish come from??

  • Wow. Absolutely incredible. I do sleight of hand all the time and this trick still drives me nuts haha

  • Teller is so gifted! My goodness, stunning illusion.

  • that trick's awesome. I really don't care how it is done, I just think it is amazing!

  • @ssurugger You know, I saw a video of him describing how magic uses your expectations against you. In that video, he gives some of the trick away and even seeing how part of it is done, it doesn't make the trick any less beautiful. Hell, even if I knew step by step how he did it, in his hands, the trick would still be visual poetry. He could probably make flossing beautiful.

  • @JorgensZelda Yeah, they are amazing. I was them live in vegas and it was one of the coolest live shows I've ever seen. plus, they actually wait outside the theater and you get to meet/greet after every show. I love that they tell people it is an illusion and make it more about the talent of creating the illusion than doing the whole hocus pocus bit.

  • @ssurugger I saw them three times, LIVE, in New Jersey. I got to talk to them and shake their hands and get their autographs. I saw Penn at a lecture in Wayne, NJ on March 5, this year, which is his birthday. He seemed honestly pleased and surprised when I gave him a birthday card. He seemed to even remember me from when I saw him in AC the year before. Probably helps that I was one of only like 12 black people at that show..... Meh.

  • @ssurugger I totally agree! i saw them do this live in London and was completely blown away

  • @jrh5573 Same here, and very much my thoughts exactly.

  • Ho

    ly

    Shit

  • Nice Schism intro.

  • This was so pretty to see live. I wished I had sat on the ground floor so i could have had a chance of being picked.

  • daaaamn, this guys are a class act.

  • I'm guessing the fish were behind some kind of mirrored partitian already in the tank. But that's just my guess.

  • Great sketch.

  • i want a "teller" in my house

  • thats "Schism" by tool 5

  • 2:51 - the fish came out of his pants or shirt, thats fucked!

Could have killed them, probably killed a few.

  • @AndreLeCoz no they didn't

  • @AndreLeCoz - nope, they are in the tank. It's done with mirrors.

  • i think there may have been a few coins on the back of the chair but only at the beginning.

    brilliant performance, though

  • Do you guys ever realize that almost every magi show or trick has a black curtain or somethong? Ö

  • Teller is such an artist

  • The band was playing Tool's "Schism" at the beginning :)

    ...and awesome trick too 5/5

  • Amazing! a clear coin bucket (Misers dream)! Always 'giving it away' but not at the same time! Brill :)

    Daz x x

  • these guys are just to bad ass.

  • Tool D:

  • has to deal with the black back roundand the cloth, thats a guess

  • @calus14

Actually no. But I'll tell you like Teller would say. The solutions to beautiful illusions are often dirty and not obvious. So rather than give you the dirty answer, I'll leave you with a beautiful question.

  • The fish are easy. But how the hell did he get so many coins?!

  • HOW DID HE GET THOSE FISH TO APPEAR

  • @qwer4o I believe Teller is excellent at palming cards, coins, or any other item. It can be very hard to track how and when he palms the coins.

  • They have style!

  • these guys always have the most bad-ass suites :P

  • cool 5/5

  • haha A great version of the misers dream (or at least a VERY similar trick)

  • Teller reminds me of Harpo Marx.

  • i like the whole mystisicm of teller

  • Teller is a master of the slight of hand.

  • Teller is probably the best magician/illusionist today.

    Perhaps only Randi is better.

  • Awesome version of Miser's Dream.

  • Tool! Awesome.

  • I didn't know the audience was that big

  • haha he does this at the vegas show too! it's awesome! :)

  • Teller gives a speech about this trick, it's very good

  • Yup, great speech YES HE SPEAKS!.

  • Cool trick! :-) I don't think anyone should write in here how a magic trick is done. It's part of the illusion not knowing.

  • Big band version of schism for an introduction, awesome

  • hahah great!

  • Schism

  • Thanks I was woundering what the song was, I rekignised it but i couldnt place it.

  • The camera angle on the shot where the goldfish appear was bad because you couldn't see the top of the glass bowl. So you didn't see that was nothing there above the glass bowl pouring the fish in the bowl.

  • i dont know why but i find it cute when teller puts his hands in the air after dropping in the first set of coins lol

  • The fish have to have already been in the tank, they'd die from the temperature change in the water otherwise.

  • that was really cool. i could sorta follow the coins, but the FISH?! teller's amazing.

  • How the hell does he DO THAT?!

You see, Penn & Teller are great because they're not saying to you "Magic is real. See?" They say "Magic is all fake, but isn't it fun?"

    X D

  • awesome! they played schism!

  • They've played that a couple of times. And "The Pot" too.

  • jesus can only make bread!

    teller must be god!

  • For performance like this, I'd like to buy DVD's, if they exist, rather than watching on Youtubes. Anybody knows where to buy it??

  • ebay.... i just bought 1 :P its awesome..... pen & teller: off the deep end

  • that is amazing! that is beautifully amazing!

  • This is one of the most beautiful illusions Teller has ever created. It is called Silverfish...for obvious reasons. The Legendary Johnny Thompson helped develop it, for you magic buffs out their. Teller was kind enough to discuss it with me after their show. Wonderful perfomer. Its funny to me how wrong most of the methods people come up with for this are. Teller designed this routine so well, it is the definition of beautiful simplicity.

  • Thats Rad.

  • wow, thanks for showing how smart you are and thanks for exposing magic on youtube. douchebag award of the day for you!!!

  • not to mention that Penn And Teller expose magic in their acts anyways, so... hey, why not join in on the rabblerousing?

  • if it's a mirror, where is the reflection, moron?

  • at least teller didnt die in this one lol

  • teller is THE best sleight of hand man working in the business today. bar none.

  • LOL Why did they play Schism at the beginning? I LOVE that song... and it was weird hearing it on here lol... I KNOW THE PIECES FIT!

  • haha i thought the exact same thing about schism....maybe because it's HaLoWeEn and tool are ScArY or something haha..

  • If anyone didn't notice, he took the coins from behind the chair she was sitting in. But I have no idea about the fish. That was fucking amazing. Teller is one of the best if not the best magician in the world. XD

  • idiot cameraman did closeup on tank when fish were being produced.

  • That's Schism...was not expecting that.

  • realize how funny it is you stupid ****

  • Testify brother

  • i fucking love how they open with tool

  • I just want to sit in Teller's brain for a day and see how he comes up with this (Yes, I know it's a very old trick. But it's the presentation that I am impressed with)!

  • Now THAT'S magic!

  • wow, that's the best misers dream i have ever seen!

  • I really wish they wouldn't have switched to a close up of the tank when he reveals the goldfish. You can't really see his hands.

  • Do anybody have the show from Letterman from friday? I missed it...

  • Nope, Akamola, it's real goddamn magic, don't you see?

  • What the fuck is that supposed to mean ????

  • lol maybe. I saw them in person, totally lit, no background, empty stage.

    Not how they do it.

  • That's not how its done. In one of the video's called 'Teller speaks', he explains the trick and why it works at a psychology convention.

  • Amazing!

  • Excellent performance!

  • Penn is a great performer, but Teller is the "magic" of this act. Genius!

  • Holy mother of God. Teller is unbelievable. I need to get my arse over to the US & into Vegas before he stops doing shows, I just have to see him live!

  • Do they still perform in Vegas?

  • Yeah I went to see there show In Thursday

  • oh thats cool! how were they?

  • yes

  • That is the most beautiful magic I have seen. Brilliant.

  • I know. Teller is so awesome. His solo peices are just astonishing. Im not saying that penn isn't great because he is, but teller's magic is art.

  • i couldn't agree with you more

  • MY FAVORITE TRICK when I saw them live.

  • that was tool? what song?

  • yes, i think it is schism

  • yup. thank you very much. great song.

  • This is some what a verison of misers dream but I have no idea where the goldfish come from. Just awesome, you dont see magic like this too often.

  • i loveeeee teller!!i watched his show in vegas too..
