Lucy's biggest mistake was losing Ricky & vice versa. Together they were greater than the sum of the two but on their own they weren't so good. Lucy was crap on her own as was he.

@MeredithOD In all seriousness, I think it Ricky was too light, and because many people don't see Hispanic/White as interracial...more intercultural. If Ricky didn't open his mouth, you'd assume he was American.

I know it doesn't really make much sense...but there you go. And I say this as a white guy with a senorita of my own. :)

@MeredithOD Actually there was a lot of concern before the show went on the air. The studio execs didn't like that he was Cuban and said that America would believe them as a couple because of their cultural differences, but of course that became one of the big appeals of the show.

But like angrydwarf said, he was lighter skinned so it wasn't controversial. In the fifties there was basically two races, "white" or "black". Most hispanics counted as white.

Yeah i have the same problem with my accent i get more "CUBAN" When im nervous you know it's very hard when ppl try to imitate your accent. It gets you so mad you want to break everything in your path and say "ADIOS" and never come back but then again there American so you can't do anythin about it. Cuz they'll sue you or somethin you just never know. But when you see a nice and Beautiful American Girl....Well They Have 5 Words For Them In Cuba....... And they are Iy Yi Yi Yi Yi.

This is great, but even funnier was the one in which Ricky (again on the phone) tries to spell Knickerbocker, and spells it: Nikerboker. I love the surprise on his face when he says, "With a K!' after the operator corrects his spelling. Classic!
