I have no problem with having these weapons, it's not like criminals are running around carrying small handguns either. I don't even see why this even makes the local news. Police across this nation are regularly encountering armed individuals with long guns (referred to as rifles more commonly) and a police officer with a pistol vs a gunman with a rifle has more often than not ended in the death of an officer. As a LEO, I have carried a Colt AR-15 semi-auto for several years and had to deploy it several times. There is no excuse in this day and time for law enforcement officers to not have access to rifles.

Cuts for the border patrol means less flexibility they have in doing their jobs. Are they true M-4's? (3-rnd burst) or just M-4 sized AR-15's? Not sure why a civilian police force needs M-4's...as intensive close quarters can be better served by heavy-caliber pistols...of course, can't tell the police anything...saving cost took them off 45 ACP to 9mm 20 years ago. What police need is a semi-auto 44-mag pistol...not a tactical rifle.
