He was appreciative of his fans I guess but a couple of things is that he was said to have been very shy and a very private guy away from performing, nothing like the showman he was in performances and generally, I suppose the bigger and more famous a band gets, the more it's often necessary even if not desirable, to be more inaccessable to fans and kept away from them more
