I believe there are various levels of secrecy, though where the public is concerned... first is classified (which is what I'm assuming you're thinking) and then there is something called "highly sensitive" where basically, you have earned the trust of the United States Government where they can trust you with (are ready for this?) "Sensitive" information.

@norvman Nope. There are tons of ways to check to see if someone is a legitimate SEAL or not. Go to socnet . com and ask them to verify. I believe Mr. Shipley has stated another website that also confirms SEAL, past or present, status. To say you cannot verify SEAL status is BS. Also, a lot of former SEALs keep in contact with guys they knew in SEAL Teams, many of whom are still active SEALs. Mr. Shipley and the good folks at socnet . com can definitely verify whether a guy was/is a SEAL or not.

ps. I did bump in to a Navy Seal, rare.... I got the opportunity to actually work with him in Florida. He was early retired from a jump injury, but still healthy as an OX. I had gotten out of the military too and was looking for work in South Florida and was referred to a landscape company. High pay and everyone was ex-military. He had all his certs up in the office. I doubt the fact he lied that he was a SEAL, we were all ex-military , plus he never really talked about it.

One of the most recognizable rescue operations in Vietnam (if not military history) was done by a SEAL and his South Vietnamese partner. They were tasked with rescuing a Air Force colonel who had been shot down. The SEAL won the Medal of Honor and his South Vietnamese partner was the first person outside the US military to win the Navy cross. See "The rescue of Bat 21 Bravo" on Wikipedia.
I work for a former SEAL and sell gear to SEALs on a fairly regular basis. Chances of bumping into them greatly increases based on living and working near them. In any case, keep up the good work man. The embarrassment of being busted is trivial in comparison to what they deserve, but it's the first step to the whoopin' they deserve.
My next door neighbor when I was a kid was a legit navy seal. He was fired from the sheriffs department for his ptsd and would come down and yell at us kids for playing paintball unsafely haha

I dont claim to be SEAL but i do say im training to be one. I am in the Navy DEP program and i am currently working with a motivator; Petty Officer Santos. Weve had several PST's were SEAL Master Chief Marcus Presson even comes to help motivate and keep us strong, reallly awesome guy by the way very funny and inspiring. But I am not a Navy SEAL.

@Jospehporta I dont really think it's technically a "secret" since Senior Cheif Shipley makes no effort to keep it secret. I believe there are various levels of secrecy, though where the public is concerned... first is classified (which is what I'm assuming you're thinking) and then there is something called "highly sensitive" where basically, you have earned the trust of the United States Government where they can trust you with (are ready for this?) "Sensitive" information.

More importantly, he still runs a youth program that the Navy has a "vested interest" in (read between the lines), and is semi-regularly interviewed on the national media.
I.e., he's not a s**tbag who was voluntold to retire. So... a smart person might assume that he still has a connection or twelve to SEAL team; lists being the least. Call BS on that.

@norvman Nope. There are tons of ways to check to see if someone is a legitimate SEAL or not. Go to socnet . com and ask them to verify. I believe Mr. Shipley has stated another website that also confirms SEAL, past or present, status. To say you cannot verify SEAL status is BS. Also, a lot of former SEALs keep in contact with guys they knew in SEAL Teams, many of whom are still active SEALs. Mr. Shipley and the good folks at socnet . com can definitely verify whether a guy was/is a SEAL or not.

ps. I did bump in to a Navy Seal, rare.... I got the opportunity to actually work with him in Florida. He was early retired from a jump injury, but still healthy as an OX. I had gotten out of the military too and was looking for work in South Florida and was referred to a landscape company. High pay and everyone was ex-military. He had all his certs up in the office. I doubt the fact he lied that he was a SEAL, we were all ex-military , plus he never really talked about it.

Last time I went on leave I was drinking at a bar my aunt works at and I ran into a guy I went to basic with (he VW'ed) and never even made it all the way through basic training. anyway he was telling everyone he was an army ranger sniper ect... might as well been telling everyone he was a scuba sniper hunting for tigers underwater. long story short I kept my mouth shut until he tried telling me i should buy him a drink cuz he was on R&R from Iraq... long story short he doesn't go there anymore.

Navy SEALs weren't existed in Vietnam era. They came around 1984. So he couldn't of been a SEAL back then in the first place.

One of the most recognizable rescue operations in Vietnam (if not military history) was done by a SEAL and his South Vietnamese partner. They were tasked with rescuing a Air Force colonel who had been shot down. The SEAL won the Medal of Honor and his South Vietnamese partner was the first person outside the US military to win the Navy cross. See "The rescue of Bat 21 Bravo" on Wikipedia.

I work for a former SEAL and sell gear to SEALs on a fairly regular basis. Chances of bumping into them greatly increases based on living and working near them. In any case, keep up the good work man. The embarrassment of being busted is trivial in comparison to what they deserve, but it's the first step to the whoopin' they deserve.

I dont claim to be SEAL but i do say im training to be one. I am in the Navy DEP program and i am currently working with a motivator; Petty Officer Santos. Weve had several PST's were SEAL Master Chief Marcus Presson even comes to help motivate and keep us strong, reallly awesome guy by the way very funny and inspiring. But I am not a Navy SEAL.
