I love Philip Sayce's style. It's also about being able to put your mojo in your play, this is why a lot of younger players can be so fierce and wild like this (like his solo there). Also, not having to play the same old tired song over and over and over and over again as with the Juggernaut of Bon Jovi (as Richie *has* to do all the time) enables you to have edge on the songs...
never mind john mayer! this guy is the best young blues guy about at the minute and think he is gonna be big soon.and i read an interview with him and apparently melissa would encourage him to solo as long as he wants and she would just step back
i think some people on here need to listen to philips own stuff ,then judge him ,when you have watched him perform over my head ,you will see what a great singer and guitarist he is in his own right
@pez570 He is a very talented man. One of the best Strat mangler's out there and one of the few who could hold a torch to the likes of Hendrix and SRV. What some people don't seem to understand is that Richie Sambora is a very different kind of player to that making any comparisons difficult to say the least. Melissa Etheridge and Philip Sayce 'interpreted' a couple of Bon Jovi songs in a way that they felt comfortable with. Some people don't like it, which is fine.
Love ur stuff Phillip ... You and Ian Moore along with Bramhall 2.0 have been inspiring my musical endeavors .. Thx for 4being strong enough to bare your heart & soul
@MAcAMP86 He said, "I want to give a special nod to Philip, who...I immediately opened the program and said 'who the F&^k is that guitar player? Pretty great, pretty fabulous, Phil.'"
I don't know how Melissa Etheridge does it, but she always has the most amazing musicians in her band. The first time I saw her in concert, John Shanks was her lead guitarist. Mark Brown on bass totally rocks. And this Sayce....well...just wow.
Well Until you can get up there yourself and play then you can talk. If you noticed even Jon said who the F**k was this guy so that tells you everything. Oh and I've seen a great guy play Richie still waiting on the other guy.
Bon Jovi -Top Selling Tour for 2008 and 2010 speaks volume...and after 25 years!! That's what's up...the rest is just a joke in comparison. Guitar players are a dime a dozen --but standing the test of time is the bottom line here for any artist. Longevity happens like less than 1% of the time. Ahhh but there have always been jealous Bon Jovi haters because Jon is so totally hot on top of it all!! Of course having all these great tributes is bound to cause a stir.
@Handorgeous The day you can play better than this guy, you might be justified in saying that, but until then why don't you just shut the fuck up and let a great guitarist get on with what he does best.
Great but he's just playing and sounding like SRV. Just like Mayer. Another SRVaughanabee. No disrespect to him - great playing no doubt, but yeah, strongly strongly SRV flavored.

I have just discovered Philip's work and I am hooked. Many guitarists can play the notes, but few can play with the emotion some guys do, such as Phil. Great job.
@mojo292 i'd say better than Sayce because he has gotten into guitar more than him. After his guitar solos he has really phat grooves along with guitar playing that actually sounds like MUSIC. it's like people have forgotten that guitar is a musical instrument not a competition
@jgl2222 I'd say Sayce would blow him off the stage with his amp on standby. I agree music isn't a competition, but I'll tune in to someone who plays with soul over someone who plays to get laid any day.
@mojo292 so I guess you'd tune in to John Mayer cuz he does the first and the rest is his business. John would blow Sayce off the stage with just his Acoustic guitar

That's average pentatonic wank, guys. It's okay but c'mon every weekend warrior does this stuff. If you can't, you need to go practice for a few months.
Pentatonic maybe, but hardly "average." And the second solo demonstrates a modal tendency before going into the Albert King/SRV stuff (which is always fine by me, anyway, if you can play it, which he can). Though there are great players everywhere and your point is taken, generally speaking, weekend warriors make war on the weekends for a reason.
LOL to think this is weekend warrior stuff, I'm a weekend warrior myself. This is more than pentatonic wank. Yes Sayce has tone, vibrato, and timing and he plays outside of the box effortlessly which can be heard locally. However, his ability coupled with his spiritual personal power of playing that guitar with authority is what we are watching. It is not wank,It's CHARISMA my friends with the power to influence, give it up,he isgood, very good with a gifted talent. He is more than just okay :^)

As much as you want to hate..you can't possibly think Sayce sucks on the guitar. He f'n rocks and you can't really argue that point. Of course Bon Jovi does the songs better because they are his songs...duh! She still rocked them out though and you can't deny it. Well, you can try, but your point really isn't valid.
