What's with all the respirators and face masks? I'm curious about this because I incorporate those things in my art all the time. I use them in my work because I'm dealing with the post-apocalypse. But I was wondering if there was some other reason so many harajuku people wear them. I think they look totally rockin. Especially that spiky one at 1:58, it's awesome.

its just a very japanese thing to wear, even if you arent dressing up harajuku, bussiness men and stuff wear them also, thats how it got integrated into the fashion

Actually, people in Japan who have masks on have manners. In Japan, when people are sick, they wear the masks to stop other people from getting sick, unlike America where people sneeze on eachother and not giving a shit. And it also could be fashion.

The face masks are a ninja affectation from anime. The idea is that they protect you from poison gas bombs and hide your identity at the same time. Probably useful in night clubs with all that cigarette smoke now I think about it.
