  • I feel like only nerds can watch this whole video and i did :)

I fucking love this guy. Doc, if you're watching this, i love you.

  • Kinda funny watching this now,,, you can't find a DLP in a retail store to save your life.

  • I bought the mitsu 65738 and it's absolutely wonderful. the advanced setting video callibartion allows you to get excellent color accuracy. The picture is even better than my panasonic and samsung lcds. I love DLP.

  • Ok, Here's the Truth about DLP's:

They have WAY to many Moving-Parts to Last very long, and keep-up with what our LCD's & LED's are Doing these Days.

The Motion on a DLP is poor when you actually throw something that Moves Fast at 1080p.

Then there's the De-generative Affect that Doc talks about... He Forgot that the Color Wheel DOES Wear-out!! [Or maybe he didn't know] This DOES cause the TV to get Worse over time.... And the Lamp DOES get dimmer over time too. :^P

  • @DiogNewmen Actually shut the fuck up, my DLP tv's have outlasted all plasma tv's and are stilll brighter after lamp replacment than any stupid plat panel out there,

  • @JISINSANE3 What kind of 3rd-World Response is that?!?

Plasma's suck - I Agree with you. But to say that DLP is better than any Flat-Panel is just defying what the Manufactures are saying. So, Why is Mitsubishi the Only Maker of DLP HDTV's?!?

What is Sony Building these days?!?

  • Comment removed

  • @DiogNewmen There the only maker cause they are the only ones that could actually build them reliably.. I do admit DLP's are complex but problem is everyone failed to build one that would last except mitsubishi. That is why they still make them, And they just came out with laser DLP.

  • @JISINSANE3 My Mitsubishi 60in DLP's picture is not better than my 42in LCD tv. I understand there is size difference but the colors on my DLP are not as vibrant and can not have an as crisp picutre as my LCD. Does my DLP just suck, idk. It was 600 bucks, so didnt loose anything, but xbox looks bad on it compared to the LCD.

  • SAMSUNG HAS THE BEST TV'S ...LED 1080P IS BETTER THEN THIS SHIT DLP SUCKS ITS DARK AND YOU HAVE TO SIT RIGHT INFRONT OF IT CUS IT LOOKS UGLY FROM ANY OTHER ANGLE

  • I LOVE MY MITSUBISHI 73" DLP!!!!!

  • thanks to all you idiots out there that bougth plasma and lcd tv you made my tv really cheap and dlps are the best tv out there

  • just ordered my 82 inch mitsubishi dlp tv. thanks for the review doc!! u really helped me.

  • Thanks! Do you think an untouched Mitsubishi 73" full HD 3D ready DLP TV is good for a price of 1,500!?

  • @KINGJADEX It's an awesome price, I got my Mitsubishi DLP 60'' HDTV 3D ready tv for that price new.

  • @Hallofhealing So dlp i good for gaming??

  • @Thet3 It is (in my opinion) the best for gaming. My xbox 360(which is 1080p) games look FANTASTIC on it! Gaming was the main reason I bought it.

  • @Hallofhealing they have better prices for Dlps but if I have to change ulbs every year then I'll be spending more over the long term!!! I see bulbs online for $150 & up!!!

  • @Thet3 Mitsubishi's bulbs are $99 and under normal use, I have over 2 years on one bulb and it's still as bright as it was the first day I bought it. Plus, there's no such thing as color degregation, so when you change the bulb, it's the exact same picture quality as the day you bought it. Try having a LCD or plasma replaced every 5-7 years and see how much that runs you compared to $99 every few years. Just a better deal in my opinion.

  • @Thet3 The best for gaming, they can't burn in and don't have a delay. Look at a computer lcd monitor and they advertise the millisecond delay, the lower the better and more expensive. DLP is plug and play. PS3 is going 3D and the mits dlp is the cheapest way to get into 3d. I ordered the 3dc-1000 kit to use the 3d features. $1200 for the tv, $399 for the kit = $1599 for a 65" 3D tv.

  • I have a 5 year old lg dlp tv, i put a fresh new bulb into it and it a few days ago and the quality is still great. got my pictures coming through 1080i via component. (has no dvi or hdmi) but i would still put it up against the latest plasma, lcd. The only sad point is that you cant get dlp tv's in the uk anymore, just does'nt seem to have a market for them. I crave for a full hd mitsubishi dlp set. you lucky americans !!

  • im saving for a 60" mistubishi dlp thats $980!

  • @joeldude76 That's the one i just bought from dell cost me $799 with dell online coupon and free shiping took 5 days to be delivered. And believe my when i say the picture looks great full 1080 p when i played my blue ray on it and look at hdtv programs. And my ps3 and xbox play like two different systems than it did on my 37 inch lcd.A great buy i am very happy with it.

  • i have a 50'' DLP that i bought back in 2005 and back in that time they were better than LCD now LCD's i've been told is better my tv was a samsung and it has been worthless if not for my extended waranty i would have paid around 2500 dollars in repairs the same amount i paid when i bought it the good thing is that i got the warranty pay for the tv itself now i got a check for 2500 and i am going to buy much better tv for less hahaha cool

  • I'm shopping for a homeprojector right now and DLP still seems to be the way to go. Primarily, the contrast and dark levels are much better with DLP. I've never seen DLP and LCD side by side but I think I'm leaning toward DLP.

  • yagshemash

    haae ma neme borat

    hi laki yuu

    hii like seeex

    iizzz niize

  • @Stunna2404 lol...

  • honestly doc the dlp u bought is just a waste .....they cant make the perfect colors and contrast ....and yeah it has a very low life span which is why they are so cheap..........lcd's and plsma's all the way.........

  • Thanks for the information!

  • I've been using DLPs since 2004 and have only had ONE (1) bulb burn out. That was on a Mitsubishi 65" that I bought in 2005. This TV is located in our garage. Out here in Las Vegas, it gets pretty hot, so I'm not surprised the bulb went out. Fortunately, Fry's Electronics, where I bought the TV, replaced it for free, due to my extended warranty.

    I upgraded from a 2004 Samsung 50" DLP to a 73" Mitsubishi in 2008. I now have two 73", the other from 2007.

    All work fanTAStically!

  • -i dont know about you guys (doc) but i watch a tv for sports and movies

-plasmas don't burn in anymore they don't have a glare issue anymore

-most plasma are 600hz so why spend a extra 1000 bucks on 240hz lcd lol it's pointless

-sure doc is gonna backup dlp he spent his money on one .. he's not gonna say there shitty cause he probably already purchashed atleast 4 lamps for his

  • this video is old as hell .. if anyone is taking what he says serious your a idiot 2007 .. dlp is awful

dlp = burnt out lamps that he doesn't mention

    -lcd = laggy/ghosting unless 240hz

-plasma = better for sports and movies

  • What happens when the chip burns out on DLP?

I've heard from TV repairmen that if chip burns out on DLP televisions, they are as good as dead. Plus I've seen plenty of DLP televisions thrown out for this same reason. I bet chip either can not be replaced or can but cost so much that it's not worth it.

  • Why is audio all the way to the right....

  • the audio is to the right cause this tv expert can't even record in stereo lol

  • Lmao nice one

  • Great video. I've been trying to tell people exactly what you just said for years. No one will listen.

I worked at Best Buy right around the time this video was made. I always tried to sell people DLP because it was cheaper, higher quality, and you could go BIG for less too.

Well, Best Buy fired me because they didn't want me to sell DLP because they didn't make enough money on them.

Just shows you how much Best Buy knows... NOTHING!

  • thats why i go to circuit city until it went bankrupt i guess best buy wins.....

  • Don't forget people this was posted in OCT 2007, LCD is MUCH better than back then. Maybe so close it really doesn't matter. But I do know that NOW LCD can get blacker than DLP, which is VERY important to me when I watch HD in my dark room, I hope that changes though. Give me a DLP projector that uses LED's for light and has high lumen, and million to one contrast and I'll be VERY happy.

  • This was a very very helpful tip. I've been goin' crazy on which I should buy. This just answered many of my questions that I had before I bought my Mitsubishi..

Now I feen better about it. Thanks Doc !!

  • My movie theater has changed all their projectors to DLP projectors and they look fantastic.

  • great job thanks for the info,,, real info...

  • actually if u buy a samsung 7 series DLP TV, or 9 series LCD TV they have no bulb to change because they have and LED backlighting there is also no need for a color wheel anymore, because the LED'S make the colors too.

  • Also a huge advantange plasma glass screen!

  • LOL your an expert? I dont trust experts! Plasma is the best um i own three now. I also have lcds my laptops how do you like your picture!

  • He is not saying Plasma is not the best picture. He speaks mostly of functionality. Plasmas & LCD WILL degrade. Where DLP never will. Plasma is very smooth, LCD is very crip & DLP is bright and colorful. DLP is far more movie oriented. Remember Plasma was designed as a monitor.

  • estas hablando de dlp vs lcd ho los precios de los productos que pendejo no saves ni lo que estas hablando solo perdida de tiempo con tigo vato no esplicas nada que baboso eres y pendejo

  • tv is good, got one on october

but this guy is a loser!

sells tvs his hole live and works at FRYs!

come on, this guy needs to just jump in a hole!

    Doc Dick

  • It's a commonly known fact that when people lie they touch their face or nose.

  • elziffo his not lieing got this tv and it all true!

  • Yes DLP is the best for anything 42" And up, Anything smaller LCD is great to have, I have a 57" Mitsubishi and love it I am getting a 73" DLP soon and the color and clarity is insane, Yes the bulb does dim over time and needs replaced, But LCD has to have the bulbs replaced as well, Longer by far yes, But I have a Giant screen tv and saved lots of cash over Plasma and lcd. I also play my pc games on it and its awsome, DLP is great. I hope they keep making them at the price there at.

  • I have the same tv, dose it hurt your eyes? my best friend has the 73" model and his look awesome too, a lil better better by my eye.

  • Nope, I love it. And I just found out LCD bulbs cannot be changed, They are built in so when they get to dim U discard the tv, These DLP's New bulb every 2-3 years and this tv could last 30 years. Probably will need a color wheel to but there only $100 and not hard to change. The color is so much better on a Mitsubishi DLP than any lcd plasma I ever seen. So what if its not flat, My screen size is bigger than theres! 73" DLP = $2000 70"+ Plasma or LCD $6000-7000 And degrades overtime. Ano brainr

  • then I just have bad eyes, lol. But yea, $1,700 for m 57" with a free stand,I went to get a 40" lcd and they was $2000 plus, funny, I went in for a 40" lcd and saw the dlp, went home did my research came back with a turk and never looked back and got something bigger, better and cheaper, the whole tv on the wall is for women who watch tlc channel all day.

  • I have had mine for four years, and the bulb is still fine.

  • The "degenerative effect" he's referring to is for CRT's that over time the phosphorus(the silver screen/material that color the pixels) become faded or burned dim from the ray scanning the same screen for so long. THIS IS MY HYPOTHESIS, PLEASE CORRECT ME IF I'M WRONG.

  • lol i have a 20" in my bed room ......ahem a lcd lol classic

  • LMAO

  • dont dlps need there bulbs replaced every 8,000 hours and those bulbs cost between 250-350$ and probably will need to be installed by a technician

  • I own a 65inch DLP and nope.

  • is it an led dlp?

  • DLP WINS HANDSDOWN!!!!

  • idiot, you HAVE to do it once a year if you watch it moderately. Just ask anyone who has the same dlp for at least 2years.

  • no there a 100 bucks and you can do it yourself

  • but if you look sideways on a DLP than does the screen start to go black???

  • Something that the first generation rear projectors had that has been fixed in recent years.

  • who the fuck is breathing so hard?

  • hes got some good points

our front projectors have always been DLP its better for that definately

atm running a BenQ W5000 on a 120" screen... love it

as for all the other flat tv's around the house in bedrooms and in the secondary lounge we use LCDs... just prefer the image and viewing just everyday with the benefits it does hold over DLP... have up to a 52" LCD atm and its awesome, but when it comes to projectors we stick to DLP

  • Ok, Idiotis! He is talking about a mitsubishi! Which is with out a doubt better than any other lcd on the market!

  • no offense doc but i had a dlp last year and the picture on it wasnt that great, and if u go to best buy and look at a dlp next to an samsung or sony lcd hdtv then u know that this guy is full of it, and for all of u that bought a dlp based off this guy then im sorry that he suckered to into buying it but yeah i have a samsung lcd and im much happier with this than a dlp, the viewing angle sucks, the color looks somewhat washed out and not vivid, the viewing angle is downright terrible

  • my Toshiba DLP is dead after 2 1/2 years...Light engine needs to be replaced and it's 450.00 dollars...

  • THANK YOOOOU DOC HALE!...the hype around plasma was ridiculous when it came out, people traded a vacation's worth of month for an inferior TV, im sure they feel stupid now.

  • Anyone found a store that sells DLP's is the UK?

  • generally sound advice.. maybe a little bit of dlp bias; if you feel the need to mention plasmas weakness at 40000ft, maybe you should note dlps flaws (lamp change anyone?)

  • Bulb change is easy and costs under $99. Most people don't need to change them for over 3-5 years. It's worth the money to me.

  • You look like the same guy that sold me the 65" Mitubishi DLP at Circuit City! Awesome TV btw.

  • Hey Doc,

Thanks a lot for posting this. Been trying to find information on new TVs and had never heard of DLP. If they are as great as you say they are, I'll be sure to be gaming on one next semester in my apartment.

My question to you is this: What do you consider a "big" screen? You said LCDs were fine for smaller sets. I want to get a 40+ incher. But yours is like 60 inches or something like that. Would you consider 40+ "big" and suggest DLP at that size?

  • this guy is trying to sucker people into buying a crappy tv set in which you have to replace the light bulbs every year. Look at his website its so poorly made and you cant even find his so called "number one best selling books". He works as a sales clerk in a crappy tv store in Las Vegas. He has no credentials besides that. Not to mention his DLP is way to big for his house it looks like he is sitting in his kitchen or something.

  • also this video looks like it was done by a cheap handheld video camera. Dont listen to this white trash con man and do some research for yourself. Go into the actual stores and compare the tvs side by side.

  • my 65" dlp from mitsubishi is the best tv ever.. no sound rainbow.. and its light... wall mount is over rated

  • Thanks Doc for the advice. We bought a 65" DLP from you today.

  • thanks for the info now i know which tv to buy!

  • I have the same tv! Rock solid! On everydayfor 7-8 hours a day for a year and a half and the bulb has hardly lost it's birghtness. I do however every 4 months take the bulb out and clean the dust screen and every 8 months take the back panel of my tvoff and dust the fans and componets off. What can I say I am a maintance freak. Same on my cars. Color is so crisp and clear that my dad is jealous cause his lg flat panel has blur and less color. DLP rule forever, An

  • I'll save you 7 minutes:

    He has good credentials.

DLP is usually the best choice, especially for gaming.

    Mitsubishi makes the best DLP.

His 57" DLP=69 lbs. vs. same size LCD=197 lbs.

Flat is only hype. A 57" DLP is 13.9" deep. If you use a 20" deep rack for components, why have a 3" deep TV?

DLP picture quality never changes because it uses 2.1 million mirrors.

All new movie theaters being built are DLP.

  • can u put this kind of tv on the wall??

  • newer ones are wall mountable but not all them

  • I got the same tv,but it's 57"(great for me,I was goning to buy a 40"),my bff got a 73"(same brand).DLP is way better and cheeper.Who gives a for a tv on a wall(it not saft anyway).

  • for a "doc", ur obviously not very knowledgeable. first off, lcds and plasmas are both a far more better technology. pioneer kuro anyone? elite? sony xbr4?..definately put the "almighty" dlp to sh ame. plasmas and lcds=170 degrees viewing angle. dlp=65..wow..

  • 07acanoia- you are the one who is misinformed.

  • I was watching golf today and thought of him when they had an Ad for Mitsubishi HDTV's, the official HDTV of the PGA Tour.

  • Plasma is better in every aspect

  • k9feces- It will never be as quick.

  • go to Doc Hales website its a big joke, it looks like it was created in 1995. He says he has the best selling books on hookup guides yet you cant see his books on his website there is only one picture of the books and its all blurry and cant small. This Doc Hale is a joke

  • wow doc its kind of hard to take your words since you call your self a PRO and yet your using old video cams and a paper to advertise your self. you can talk about new tvs but you cant seem to use a pc to do video edit?

  • DLP'S are the best my first plasma got burned in like 3 months i play games at night on my LCD and ain't that great , 2 weeks ago i got a 65" DLP and it rules im a happy man again

  • DLP will be dead in a few years

  • it's sad but true

  • why

  • Because you have to replace light bulbs, Picture quality sucks, Plasma and Even LCD are better, and production is being discontinued

  • k9feces- haha you can't replace blubs in plasma. LCDs degrade over time. Much cheaper to just buy a bulb.

  • It takes 27 years for a plasma to lose half it brightness, DLP bulbs need to be replaced annually, plus you have to sit directly centered in front of the screen to see the picture.

  • Plasma won't make to 27 years. Everbody that buys a plasma has to buy new one in just a few years after.

  • Everyone who buys DLP realizes they are shit and puts them in their basement.

  • well you need to lookup 3 chip DLP.

  • LCD pretty good though

  • I agree that LCD is a good T.V. and Plasma would be my last resort.

  • true Samsung does excellent with TV just out of the open i like to say bigger is not better we got a 52 inch LCD cuz its in 1080p but no offense im all for DLP my friend had it he got a 62 inch DLP but only gets 1080i kinda gay but ya

  • I got a good deal last week on an DLP projector from circuit city. Only $400. It's does kind of have what they call the rainbow effect but it's only for certain situations. I didn't buy it to watch TV though, just movies and stuff that perform better. If the 3 chip DLP projectors would be cheaper, that would be awesome as for as home projectors go. The one I have is able to produce up to a 25 foot screen but I don't think I'll ever have enought space for something like that.

  • k9feces- It's just the beginning shitface. More movie theaters are in fact using this more and more. The 3 chip DLP's rule.

  • wat u said is true though

  • "your a human being (hopefully)" Now thats funny.

    DLP all the way baby!

  • I bought a rear projection and found it to be the best tv i have ever hAD. viewing 65 degrees from the side is very good, as good as watching from the center. Colour is very bright, great blacks, it has a lot to offer, i would purchase another one.

  • doc hale got ripped off when he bought his HDTV and now he wants to lash out

  • doc hale is a simple minded, white trash fan boy who wants to justify his cheap HD purchase. LCD and Plasma tvs are 2 times better in terms of quality and hardware. Doc Hale watches his Hdtv 500 feet away and has to sit directly in front of his tv or the picture turns to shit. Not to mention doc hale changes his DLP bulbs every few months thats why he cant afford a larger house and lives in a shack.

  • You must be one of those "people on the internet with their opinions" he spoke of.

  • um dlp's are terrible tvs, unless you live in a cave with no natural light and are sitting 30 yards away. Also projection is terrible when you have couches on all sides, since any none adjacencies will give you unwatchable quality. Theres a reason why dlp's start at such absurd sizes; since the bigger the dlp the less of a chance you have at getting unwatchable side blur. This wacko doc hale is obviously a dlp salesman and wants to sucker in idiotic consumers.

  • as long as your couches arent up against the tv, there wont be any problem. ive looked at them in stores and as long as you are back about 2 feet there is no picture color loss on wide angles. you are talking about the 90's projection sets.

  • That "It's the mirrors" girl freaks me out too.

Good info in this video though. Thanks

  • great info! I did my research for 4 months and bought the new mitsu 65 inch. these 6 color TVS are amazing. its nice to see my choice being backed up.
