one reason people use ls engines in formula d is because it is more easy to find parts for it. it will make more horsepower then whatever engine it is replacing(usually) and with that there is no need to completely rebuild the motor it replaced .and it is a pretty reliable engine
My God...! Now that I can put an LS motor into a Nissan 350z there is no need for the new Camaro. I didn't like it much in the first place, but I definitely won't consider one now...! Love live the Z-car.
@Red97Avenger If i got 850 CFM carb on a SBC then put it on a K20 I would have to build a motor that would take the pressure needed to burn the same amount of fuel in the K20. So I would be looking at spending more money for a motor that needs more maintenance. $5000 swap with a LS6, or build up the smaller motor that will never reach 400lb of tq. and cost $50,000 bucks. I do understand what you are saying but in most cases people will go the cheaper way when it comes to horsepower.
so what all this boils down to is..how many of you could REALLY do a self engine swap, let alone rebuild a motor from block up...few. These guys that mod do it as a hobby, not becausethey want to impress you. There is NO debate at the power an LSX motor can pull NA before any pricey mod to a stock VQ motor is worth comparing. Its a nice car, and a car guy's hobby. Just admire it, be jealous, or give your constructive .02. Id love to have a 350 with an LSx series motor myself.
Redube is an idiot along with most of the rest of you guys on here who dont know what you are talking about. you deserve to hit a wall for having the balls to get on here and talk about something you know nothing about. people do swaps to be different instead of having the same thing as everyone else and the reason you dont just turbo a z is because you need to build the motor first. 350z r notorious for blowin up when pushed past 400hp the internals cant handle it so you have to build the z
That z's internals stock could easily handle 300+hp, its just a matter of how long it will handle it for before it blows up. Now saying that it needs to be built, well no shit, thats a givin with any car you plan on racing around a track. And if your gonna talk shit on somebody, at least spell their screen name right you idiot.
Ya clearly something you know nothing about. of course they are meant to handle 300hp because thats almost what the come with. i'm talking about if you spend the time and effort to turbo your z which would put you much closer to 400hp. which is what i said not 300. i dont know why im even wasting my time with this because obviously i couldnt say anything that would make sense in your tiny little head. i hope i never drive anything you have touched
@SkurtnCurt I've personally seen a Z making 600+rwhp on boost alone on a stock block that was pushed over and over and over again on the strip without a problem. My daily driven Z made 420+rwhp with a SAFE tune on a stock engine for multiple years. You're right, to make BIG horsepower the engine must be built, but 400+rwhp is very common with just the install of a quality twin turbo kit and a good tune. I can have many other twin turbo Z owners confirm that.
@SkurtnCurt 400whp is nothing to a VG30DETT and they make more tq than horsepower and have low end.It is becuase the 350z is a fake as the most of the owners. The 370Z is the true replacement for the 300zx (Z32). PPl swap in the LS becuase they R unknowledgeable and take what they think is the easy route
@DVcustomZ you moron. the vq37 is a weak engine. there are 2-3 TT guys over at the370 forum all of them at 8-10 lbs boost are stuck in the 500 rwhp range and only high 390 to low 400 TQ range. turbo ls1's can hit 600+ rwhp with only 6-7 lbs of boost and make aorund 590 tq. and the ls1 can handle the pressure alot longer.
@atekido Ok, forum racer factor in the cost of the lsx then factor in it was never meant to be boosted (fyi na-t domestics do not last) factor in turbo kit cost of wiring harness, the turbo kit, manifords tranny, mounts engine and tranny, then factor the 4l80e has to be rebuilt to handle over 400whp that's another 3500.00 then factor in drive shaft and the custom work then factor in cost of swap even if yu do it your self. If you have an ls1 camaro obv it is cheaper but cont
@atekido cont. this is a swap not to mention those are forum numbers you are spoutng out I can tell you a factory ls1 will not handle boost to hit 600whp in daily conditions definitely not track duty then still not for long.. FACTS I actually build cars the factory vq37de (not vq35de) will handle stock 550whp no rebuild with turbo kit and fuel on stock tranny and clutch.I have seen first hand what a 2011 v8TT camaro can do w/its 10k kit+ install whopping 525whp these are facts.
@mznhu He said LS1 and I know for a fact a stock ls1 is not going t hit 600whp for long. Buddy's c5 twin turbo makes 550whp and that tuned. PPl love to get on forums and youtube and repeat lies that were passed off as truth. BUILD YOUR CAR AND PROVE YOUR STATEMENTS OR SHUTUP. Prev comment not directed at mznhu just the posers and e-mechanics
Dani01c are you really as stupid as it seems you are? Why would anyone want a smaller engine vs a larger one if the larger one is more powerful weighs around the same and gets better fuel economy? Who cares if the engine is bigger? Wow big deal. My 04 z06 got around 28-29 highway going 60+ before I did my cam swap. Big doesn't mean inefficent anymore with modern technology homeboy. If bigger was not as good why do alot of the bad supras run 3.4L strokers? Do you know even what a stroker is?
i remember seeing this car at JE after the wreck...but these guys know what they are doing...i mean hell they did my 1jz supra swap and its still running strong!
i used to work for JE...if you guys knew wat you were talking about you'd know that a V8 is a good candidate motor for a drift car.....torque basically off idle. Thats the name of the game....car was fixed within 2 months and now back up and running
Take a look at my profile and notice I'm in England, retard. Typical ignorant teenager. And no, you CANNOT "make it up" by "twin turboing it". A twin turbo kit alone for a VQ35 costs more than an entire LSx swap, and with the swap, you can sell off the VQ35 and recoup over half of the funds. Man, you really are stupid. Hang yourself.
um correction to u i didnt call u american its just an american thoght.. not "U ARE AN AMERICAN".. and i just searched the internet and turbokits in ebay are for less than $1k except turbonetics and things that expensive which were around 3k.. i looked ls1 in ebay and it was worth $4500 almost all if not 3k... its more or less the same shit with turbo kit u get 350+ horsepower so.. i dont think im stupid maybe u felt insulted by the american thing.. but then again why do u like american stuff?
Please. If you think some Chinese "$1k Ebay Turbo Kit" on your $30k+ 350Z will actually function properly, then there is no need for this discussion to continue. I'll set the record straight for you. Until you have multiple LSx swaps into RWD Japanese cars under your belt like I do, please stop commenting. We're just wrapping up an LS1 into and FD RX7 at the moment over here, and will be starting on an LS2 350Z inside of a couple weeks. Experience > Google Warrior.

You know how light LSx engines are? I have a very light car, Ford Zx2, which makes a MR2 look heavy and the difference in weight between my Zetec 4 cylinder and the LS2 is 50lbs. Thats amazing imo. Oh, and btw, the highest hp M3 which is the newest one at like 414 still is only 14 extra horses than a normal, cheaper LS2 and has 105lbs less torque and is around 20lbs heavier than an LS2....those, however, are not my opinions, they are fact
cool they still dont produce more power while needing 6.2liter.. yes it is more compact but the fact is that a piston from those engines are probably bigger than your face.. compare a camaro vs the m3 for example ant try in tell me in which way is faster than the m3... i think the answer is none..
the point is it may be a bigger liter but if you dont care about it dont bring it up cause the LS2 gets better gas mileage . and imo the LS2 makes better power cause id take the extra 105lbs of torque over the 14hp
