i have a cooey 39 single shot and a cooey 64 semi auto will the cci stinger harm the chamber ? i have shot them through my 39 and never heard tell of them harming my chamber ...
@peckcrai I'm not well versed on that particular gun, but unless the chamber is a match chamber I doubt it would hurt it. I would check with the manufacturer though.
I've just bought 150 rounds of CCI Velocitor today. I'll test'em tomorrow shooting by 100 meters with a Weatherby-Beretta MARK XXII. Greetings from Italy!!
I recently bought a Springfield M6 Scout (18.5 inch barrel) to be used as a survival rifle in my bug out bag. Having watched this video, I plan to carry Velocitors for hunting. (Small game mostly). What do you think would be the max range for taking a white tail deer with .22 and also 410? And would you aim for heart/lung or head? (I would only consider deer in a survival situation). Thanks.
i like both rounds and i agree with everything you mention. but from the ballistic reports ive seen of these rounds fired into ballistic jell medium they were penetrating 10in.-11.5in. now obviously there were no obstacles in the jell such as bones or outer clothing. but it seems to me both rounds are more than capable to reach the vitals, at a close range. i carry stingers in my p22, but you have more ballistic knowledge than me and i mean no disrespect just making an observation. :)
@BushcraftOnTracks Neither of them are a bad choice when it comes to a self defense load. I just like the 20% increase mass with the velocitor. Thanks for chiming in.
I'm in Ireland and can only get CCI Stingers or Mini Mag's and only own 2 x 22's (a cz452 and a Ruger 10/22) Which would be the best to keep for home defense,
If I had before me a shotgun, a .45, a .22LR, and a K-bar. And you told me I could only take 2 items to survive with... I would choose the 22LR, and the knife. .22 isn't great for defense, but can be effective. And the (cost, availability, weight) far out weight the stopping power of the shotgun or the .45 And if I could only take 1 item, I would choose the knife every time.
"it's a very very easy caliber for beginners to shoot people that aren't as familiar" well put lol also there's a ballistic gel video of the velocitors in the related videos
@teamhex Yep, I agree most people should be able to handle a reasonably sized 9mm. It boils down to time and training. My wife is smaller framed and she can handle a .45 acp after some practice.
@teamhex A 22LR is enough to kill any human. It is probably second to the AK / SKS 7.62 cartridge in Human casualty death rate... Growing up, I've spent thousands of hours in the woods shooting everything I can find, and examining the results. A 22LR can go through a steel pan - a Human rib bone is not that strong !.
P.S. You double tap 2 CCI Stinger into an intruders chest and see how far he'll go !!!???
I really like your discussion on .22 LR and WROL. I think you are spot on. LadyLobo has a little Marlin Papoose which I envision as a great survival gun. It is light accurate and breaks down small. It's reliable with most all brands of ammo now (as long as you use the factory mag. I'm glad to learn some differences in the Stinger and Velocitor . Thanks!
Since I ran out of room on the last post, as you mentioned, I have heard that extended barrel length can actually hinder a 22s performance. So, it got me to wondering, what barrel length would be ideal? I am guessing in the 22-24" range, but that's just speculation on my part. And, if that's the case, it's surprising to me that many of the most popular 22 rifles use much shorter barrels (I guess due to keeping costs down).
@TigerMike901 It would really depend on the actual round you are firing...some ammo will have faster or slower burning powders. Barrel friction can be an issue when your talking the .22lr.
Thanks for the video! Very interesting/informative and I agree with your thoughts on 22 for defensive/social purposes. While maybe not ideal, they are more than capable if the shooter does their part. I think one point of elaboration is that with 22lr, shot placement is really the key (although the same is true for any caliber, but IMO more so for a 22 if it is defensively used). That said, I believe placement and getting many rounds on target quickly is great for the 22, another big plus.
I can handload 50 148 grn 38 swc w/ 4 grns of unique for about $6.25 . that's cheaper than the velocitors . Have you ever tried the blazer 22 ammo ? That's what all the bullseye guys use it's standard but very accurate for hunting and black sheep has it for $15.99 for 500 .
Would the Henry survival .22 be a good SHTF gun? it all can be stored in the stock and fits 3 mags in the stock with it, so its pretty compact. how would that do for a survival gun?
but my damn youtube is messed up or somthing it will stop in the middle of the video and wont go any farther idk if you have any ideas on how to fix this
I personally would prefer a RN bullet for the 22 in a pistol personally. Whatever I could get going fastest in a heavy bullet. I would actually consider the Aguila SSS because it is 60gr and would probably tumble and yaw in a body.. For my 1022, I would probably go with the Aguila Interceptor. It would work well to all 22LR ranges. Basically the same as the Velocitor but RN for more penetration and better BC. I'm surprised you don't use them to target shoot due to the BC being better
i need to get something in 22lr. my favorite pistol to shoot right now is my sig p238 but 380 ammo is so expensive. i wish there was something similar chambered for 22lr. Or maybe a p238 22lr conversion kit.
@jas0nkendrick There are small .22lr pistols available out there...Walther P22, Taurus PT22, Beretta .22...and so on...I don't think they have a conversion for the P238. Take care
Great vid Doc. I have never seriously considered the 22LR round for a defensive round. Good philosophy on the cost and ease of use for all to utilize. Great point. I think there are more people killed with a 22 each year than any other round. Take care.

good for survival, good for home D if bad guy is unarmed and 10 meters away, good for training and your bank account. I like it!
