I'm trying this with Machamp (Brick Break, Rock Slide, Bulk Up, Earthquake, @Quick Claw), Absol (Shadow Ball, Aerial Ace, Double-Edge, Swords Dance, @Shell Bell) and Articuno (Blizzard, Sheer Cold, Mind Reader, Ice Beam, @Lum Berry). The first two have high Attack, Articuno has high Defense and Sp. Def. Do I have a chance to win the Gold Symbol? I almost always lose for bad luck (critical hits, missed attacks or opponents that can be defeated only with someone that has already fainted).
