I think, personally, that one of the drawbacks of the internet, and global communiccation is that it's simply not possible for people of each country to recognise the nuances of every other culture in the art that they produce. To break it down, I readily admit I could not appreciate Japanese art as much as the japansese because I don't know the history/culture. I imagine that a Russian might struggle with a painting of the Rebecca riots. If you don't know what they are, i rest my case.
I think the opposite is true since the internet makes other cultures much more accessible. Example: I never heard of the "Rebecca Riots" and after reading your post it took me a couple of seconds to get the basic info. Thus you just taught me an interesting item about your culture which I will never forget and that might allow me to "get" a reference, like in a painting, if I come across it in the future. I rest my case :)
Well I'm not sure that skating over a subject is the same thing as appreciating it in its entireity but I take your point that the internet is a useful tool for finding basic info. Anyway, no bother. All the best.

I know... He could never be like any of them directers! LOL... The 3 I mensioned above are Horror Movie Directors.
I just mean because i've watched the GMTV Sally Hawkins Interview and when ever people talk about him, they say he's "Legendary" director or something like that when to me he's not.

Yeah... Spielberg did 'Jaws'
I'm a Sally Hawkins Fan and I bought her movie 'Happy-Go-Lucky' and I liked the movie but it was a bit boring at the begining and in some parts. I found the driving Instructor pretty funny. My fave part of the movie was when Poppy found out that one of her students is getting hit at home my his stepdad Jason.
But all i'm saying is that Mike Leigh is NOT one of my fave directors (I am 17 you know!)
In UK he is a legendary director. You're not familiar with him because he's not from mainstream Hollywood while the directors you've mentioned were all in the mainstream Hollywood. In our country, the Philippines, we also got legendary directors and they are very good directors though they might not be known worldwide, their crafts are as good as these directors.
I wish I could get a woman like sally. smart, sexy, good personallity, funny, her sexy accent.

So true... We are living in tuff times.
Mike Leigh isn't that good of a Director and he isn't a master film maker.
If you want a good Director then just check out:
Wes Craven
John Carpenter
Steven Spielberg
NOW THERE LEGEND DIRECTORS!

'GOOD' well that's subjective...isn't it?
