I read Bruckner's book two years ago and it really made an impression on me. It is a very sober and courageous analysis on the culture of guilt that seems to have overtaken the Western World. The very same guilt that fuels ugly thinks like cultural relativism and feminism.
Guilt is only healthy when one is actually responsible for the offences that one is accused of having committed. Otherwise it’s tyranny.

I've found a grounding and serenity in Buddhism that I never felt from Christianity.

The Arab Muslims are the most successful imperialists in world history, not to mention the most prolific and brutal slavers. They have made wiped out more cultures, languages and religions and made slaves, clones and drones out of the conquered peoples. Their crimes against humanity have not abated in nearly 15 centuries. No shame or guilt whatsoever, but a sense of pride in being the propagators of Allah's word though they filled the old world with blood, rape, destruction and slavery.

Not to mention the prolonged state of slavery that Islam inflicted on Africa (alot longer and far longer than the west - even now goes on with the system of "indentured workers" ). Black Americans have bought the myth that Islam is the religion of the Black man and not the source of his degradation. In the Ancient world most slaves were Caucasians and black was not equated with being inferior. The rise of Islam made black synonymous with slave. In fact, many modern Arabic dialects use the term Abd (slave) for a black man. I lived many years in Gulf countries and herd that firsthand.

I've found guilt to be a western philosophy brought over by the judeo christian religious ethos. This is one reason Buddhism tends to be nonviolent and has sustained its' basic teachings unchanged for thousands of years. I've found a grounding and serenity in Buddhism that I never felt from Christianity.

@biozamadotcom No, buddhism isn't about that, it's just that calmness, peace and serenity are important as opposed to worry, stress and materialism. Busshism may not be perfect but what religion is?We should respect the good points of every religion and keep to whatever we consider our own.
I find the most serenity and nobility in a Catholic church so I now consider myself Catholic but I used to study the Eastern stuff and can see where it's appeal comes.
Chinese philosophy is wicked too... xD
