  • i dont understand why people hate the da vinci code???

  • Love how even his insults sound posh :P

  • Then what could his response to Twilight & Bieber possibly be? O.o

  • @WoodymanTHEJ I would so love to know - I hate Twilight and Bieber as well

  • But tell us how you really feel, Stephen.

  • Nice fraps counter at the bottem left :)

  • Fun fact: There actually is a code hidden in the last supper. All the hands and food on the table line up perfectly if you draw a musical stave on it and you get a nice little tune.

  • It is badly written and appeals to the lowest common denominator. If you want tasteful and rich literature which involves religion, history and suspense, I would suggest the works of Umberto Eco.

  • Is "arse gravy" a common English phrase or did Stephen Fry just make that up? Either way, I love it!

  • @Jennyfisch It's a Stephen Fry invention, but I'm thinking of adopting it in future ;)

  • Poor Dan Brown. He writes a *fictional* book and then everyone goes on and ON about him trying to represent it as fact.

  • @247custard it's not about the content, but the style (or rather lack of it). His writing is so bad he wouldn't get a D in A-Level English for it.

  • Damn Brown is nothing more than a plagiarist who took his best shot at ruining Tom Hanks and failed.

  • Proof, if any were needed, that StephenFry is a man of impeccable taste.

  • Over 36500 views :)! Wouldn't have thought that when I uploaded it...

  • @ptroinks

    Nearly 60k now...

  • what episode is this from?

  • @pyaaraaya C-series, episode 12 "Combustion".

  • @ptroinks than you <3

  • @Humaninsoul "arse" arse gravy"

  • i quite enjoyed the book but took for what it is... a book!... but then i once had an argument with a muslim about harry potter, he seemed to think it was evil and people shouldn't be taken in by a work of fiction, they shouldn't live their lives by a book..... you can imagine my answer to that!..... aaaaaanyway, stephen fry is the best... end of

  • Who'd have thought that Christians and athiests could find a common ground - we all agree The DaVinci Code is bullshit.

  • @Humaninsoul Use your imagination... :)

  • I am a christian, but if other christians (particularly catholics) just ignored the book, it would not have got such public attention because people would recognise it for what it was. And that is utter dribble which seems to be written for children but is read by adults seemingly only because of the controversy

  • Interestingly, on the DVD, the producers of QI say that they wish to distance themselves from Stephen's comments, as they actually quite liked the book!

  • @kisbie Says a lot about them, doesn't it... How can someone be a producer of QI, and at the same time like that book? :D

  • @ptroinks They didn't claim it to be a masterpiece, but they felt it was worth more than Stephen's withering verdict. And it is very much in the spirit of QI to go against conventional wisdom. They also defended creationists - to an extent - as good scientific researchers who uncover fascinating finds but just happen to draw up theories that are almost certainly wrong.

  • @ptroinks Well, John Lloyd is an idiot. He was on the show once, and man did he embarrass himself!

  • @kisbie When I explain how much I hate the book, lots of people say to me, "oh, you must be religious, huh?" and I honestly say, "no, I'm an atheist. I hate the book because I'm a fan of good literature!"

  • @chubbm Please continue to spread the gospel of common sense and good literature!

  • @ptroinks Not to mention facts

  • @chubbm That's the worst thing about it -- he succeeded in pissing off the Catholic Church in the act of writing his godawful book, and his fans think that makes him Galileo. No actual knowledge or critical thinking skills required, apparently.

  • @chubbm I have always found it most offensive to historians...

  • The bad part is the majority of americans actually believe the shite. Starting to talk about illuminati as well. Jeez

  • @AngelBiLove Well, it's not even about believing or not, but it's about how smug someone can get because "they're in the know" and you're just "sheeple" like that.

I didn't read the book but I haven't been able to sit through the movie once, I fall asleep every single time.

Helped me through a trans-atlantic flight though.

  • @AngelBiLove I know a girl from the UK who believes the Illuminati exist too... it's just depressing to see how thick some people are.

  • @iago18958 Dan Brown didn't invent the Illuminati, it's a pre-existing conspiracy theory like a lot of the others in the book. Not that that means she isn't a moron, but at least she's not necessarily a Dan Brown fan...

  • @johnnye87 LOL! Believing the Illuminati exists is bad enough. Thank God she isn't a Dan Brown fan as well! That would be REALLY bad :D.

  • Loose stool water.... definately a band name in the pipelines there. First song will have to be called "laxative blues" followed by "diuretic on my mind" .

  • i read it when it was "so hot right now"..... and i honestly couldn't believe the hype around it once i had finished the book. garbage.

  • I threw it in the bin after seven chapters. I was astounded that I even managed to read those four pages.

  • He doesn't like anyone being critical of his work though.

  • He's right. I started reading it and abandoned it after maybe a 3rd of the way through.

    Utter twaddle.

  • The thing is I agree with him!

  • @TheTheoldgit

    Me too.
