Fun fact: There actually is a code hidden in the last supper. All the hands and food on the table line up perfectly if you draw a musical stave on it and you get a nice little tune.
It is badly written and appeals to the lowest common denominator. If you want tasteful and rich literature which involves religion, history and suspense, I would suggest the works of Umberto Eco.
i quite enjoyed the book but took for what it is... a book!... but then i once had an argument with a muslim about harry potter, he seemed to think it was evil and people shouldn't be taken in by a work of fiction, they shouldn't live their lives by a book..... you can imagine my answer to that!..... aaaaaanyway, stephen fry is the best... end of
I am a christian, but if other christians (particularly catholics) just ignored the book, it would not have got such public attention because people would recognise it for what it was. And that is utter dribble which seems to be written for children but is read by adults seemingly only because of the controversy
Interestingly, on the DVD, the producers of QI say that they wish to distance themselves from Stephen's comments, as they actually quite liked the book!
@ptroinks They didn't claim it to be a masterpiece, but they felt it was worth more than Stephen's withering verdict. And it is very much in the spirit of QI to go against conventional wisdom. They also defended creationists - to an extent - as good scientific researchers who uncover fascinating finds but just happen to draw up theories that are almost certainly wrong.
@kisbie When I explain how much I hate the book, lots of people say to me, "oh, you must be religious, huh?" and I honestly say, "no, I'm an atheist. I hate the book because I'm a fan of good literature!"
@chubbm That's the worst thing about it -- he succeeded in pissing off the Catholic Church in the act of writing his godawful book, and his fans think that makes him Galileo. No actual knowledge or critical thinking skills required, apparently.
@AngelBiLove Well, it's not even about believing or not, but it's about how smug someone can get because "they're in the know" and you're just "sheeple" like that.
I didn't read the book but I haven't been able to sit through the movie once, I fall asleep every single time.
@iago18958 Dan Brown didn't invent the Illuminati, it's a pre-existing conspiracy theory like a lot of the others in the book. Not that that means she isn't a moron, but at least she's not necessarily a Dan Brown fan...
Loose stool water.... definately a band name in the pipelines there. First song will have to be called "laxative blues" followed by "diuretic on my mind" .

Is "arse gravy" a common English phrase or did Stephen Fry just make that up? Either way, I love it!
Jennyfisch 2 months ago
@Jennyfisch It's a Stephen Fry invention, but I'm thinking of adopting it in future ;)

Poor Dan Brown. He writes a *fictional* book and then everyone goes on and ON about him trying to represent it as fact.
247custard 2 months ago
@247custard it's not about the content, but the style (or rather lack of it). His writing is so bad he wouldn't get a D in A-Level English for it.

Damn Brown is nothing more than a plagiarist who took his best shot at ruining Tom Hanks and failed.
