It's very scary actually, if the populace is that idiotic, what chance is there for the future? If the masses are so stupid, then the only thing the future can bring about is greater Fascism, more bread and circuses. The bankers must be pleased, they have been chipping away at Western nations' education systems since the early 1900s, they have accomplished a great deal... a great deal of harm, that is.
@Humbucker121 So do i I'm not american but the fact is educated people without any sort of empathy for poorer people and hard working people don't have any sort of notion of what people go through. Most election candidates are yes men and don't stand for there beliefs and only want profit out of people. Capitalism is a b****
@nickbobj321 I couldn't agree more. Not to mention that the people have lost their vote, but the messed up thing is, no one knows about it yet. When a government becomes destructive to the means of the people to elect their leaders from the people, then It is the DUTY of the people to replace that government. That is the third line in the declaration of Independence. And since the electoral votes, and not the popular vote, decides who is elected, We have lost our right to vote!
Why shouldn't working people own their own home. Are you seriously suggesting that buying a home on a mortgage makes you a slave? And the lefts alternative? to dragoon working people into council estate ghetto's? It's that old left paternalism that imagines working people like myself are by definition inadequate and have to be provided for like we're children. One day the left will learn to ask working people what they want rather than simply telling them what they're going to get.

Tony Benn is a bigotted idiot, who loves the sound of his own voice, who talks and talks and talks and NEVER listens. Who thinks in terms of slogans and has little grasp of the real world. Thats why he nearly destroyed the labour party in the early 1980's. It's not surprising Thatcher won elections so easily with people like Benn as an alternative. He attacks working people as slaves for wanting to own they're own home! What arrogance, coming from an aristocrat living in holland Park!
@rupertbrooks0 What nonsense....He is saying that when you buy a home you enslave yourself to debt....it was a clever Thatcher way of keeping people under control....You don't fight for higher wages when you have a mortgage to pay....Thatcher identified sources of power that opposed her power and destroyed them....understand...
@rupertbrooks0 - I couldn't have put it any better. He is self righteous and snotty. He might speak with a plumb in his mouth but it's just a load of simplistic cliches over and over again. Self annointed patronising old fool.
Just because the messages are simple doesn't make them any less true. Judge the messages on their truth (or lack thereof), rather than out of a desire for complexity.
That was an interesting video. I hadn't heard about this guy before today. I watched this video during an explanation of one of my internet friends meeting this guy. That internet friend happens to have a grandfather into politics who gets along with Tony Benn.
A truly inspirational man!!!!! At least we can break this generalisation about rich people. Tony is an example of a well off person standing up for his less fortunate citizens and comrades.
Blackspur, You have no argument so you smear with innuendo and criticise a member of a rich family for trying to improve the lot of those worse off. Who then is supposed to speak out in favour of working people? Certainly not New Labour or the Tory party. Just because someone is of a wealthy background doesn't mean they can't speak out. This man could have been PM if he had towed the line; they even stupidly offered him a peerage on retirement. Even though he'd renounced one already.

Tony Benn's era and policies created a Britain in the 70's. You know the one that was broke due to budget defecits and had to be bailed out by the IMF because labour couldnt keep its house in order. 3 day week un buried dead etc etc. Benn is a silly old leftie.
So you were there? I was, I must say I remember things a little differently. The country was much worse during the 80's - except for the minority of course. The only thing that kept the balance of payments then were the oil receipts. For my family, most of my friends, their living standards dropped from the 70's. Now they work 2X times as long for less money, if they still have a job. Unlike their Executives of course. In the 70's it was a lot easier to get work, I know I did
Given the ilk we have for politicians these days. Self serving careerist with no vision, little different to civil-servants only with less power. I'll vote for a "silly old leftie" any day. After all Thatcherism has brought us to where we are now. On our knees.
Its ironic that socialists and communists like myself complain about "divide and rule" and how they want to end it....when we have an endless list of Socialist and Communist parties!!! talk about divide and rule, even my gran (who isn't socialist) said " its a good thing, it makes sure they don't have a collective voice" - this shows we need to unite under one banner, forget about little parties that differ on one socialist policy.
Terrible how daft videos of pop stars have millions of views on YouTube and a speech by this great bloke has less then 6000. Shame.
