@craigery83 no the main difference is reflux ratio control and ability of precise fraction separation, on this first video the still is in pot mode so to get the whole idea just watch all five clips, or visit my website: "ferromit.com"
i had a hard time hearing this video, is there a specific brand name if that machine? and what was that liquid you poured into it? i would really like to make my home made liquor
@MrYpres Hi, I really sorry for the sound quality and my accent, the brand name is "Alex 25" Fractional still, to get more info and get all your questions answered please visit "ferromit dot com", you also can find the manuals and stills for sale there.
The coke is not corrosive on plastic , I meant that generally it is more reactive than ethanol and distributed in plastic packaging without dissolving the plastic, so why ethanol should dissolve the plastic tubing?
As I mentioned before if one can avoid the use of plastics - then go for it, plus I do not use any plastics that not used by other stills manufacturers, I have some stills that used purely for trials for number years and there is no plastic degradation on the ethanol side, but some on the water supply side, and just face the reality the polymers are everywhere - frying pots are covered with Teflon, spirit bottles are with plastic stoppers. plastics are different.
Storage isnt the same as when the ethanol is a vapour, i think your missing the point 50 ppl here are trying to make u see, so i dont care what you do, enjoy your polymer soup.
This is the point, in my case no ethanol vapor is in contact with plastic tubing, the only contact is in already cooled liquified form. And not all my stills the same the more expensive versions have no plastic at all, and I agree with you avoid plastic if you can :-)
If you so smart and educated just explain me please - why food grade ethanol suppliers do supply the 96.6% ethanol in 200l plastic drums for further dilution and beverages production? why all bulk alcohol is supplied in plustic drums for further bottling, I know because I was in business, do those big guys poison everyone deliberately ?
As follows from your blog you are a computer games profi and as I see there is nothing about metal fabrication or alternative fuels, distillation or something that you had made with your own hands, but everything you see on my blog is build by me and I have a patent pending on all the stuff you see here, though I appreciate your criticism and will take into account your concerns about plastic usage and will try to avoid them in my future distillation equipment, thanks a lot.
@santeryi9 Don't let all these talkers try and put you down. If they dont like the plastic demonstration let the sub it with copper. I agree with you about big bottlers using plastic, my family was in the buisness. A lot of the toxins that leach from plastic are leaked by sunlight. Thanks for taking the time to explain the "concept" of distillation
Most of tubing that used in this still is for water supply to the cooler, and all tubing I use is non toxic one designed for beverages, and also there is different kind of plastics around, and what about spirit bottles with plastic stoppers on top, and even spirits sold in plastic bottles, and I know for sure that coca cola is more corrosive and reactive than any kind of spirits and yet sold in plastic bottles, but yes I agree if you can avoid plastic -just simply avoid it.
yeah, I remember he plugged it in, but if I plug a lamp in the wall, it doesn't get hot enough to boil water :P I meant to ask what kind of heating element he was using
where all th tubes are hanging from its cooling th vapor to liguid so you can store it , otherwise it would disperse into the atmoshphere, th white stuff they pour in is the mash, you make it by boiling for instance 1 kilo of potatoes chopped into 1cm cubes in a pressure cooker, until you are left with the white water, which shall contain a fair amount of sediment, dispose of potatoes and that white stuff is what shall be left with to put in your still. hope thjis helps
im assuming the white liquid is a sugar wash. very simply its just sugar, water, and yeast.
on everything ive read, people believe that you shouldnt use plastic tubing on a still cos there might be a chance of leeching the plastic into your spirits.
I recently finished the still construction manual and soon it will be available on DVD loaded with step by step photos + distillation manual and video.
This is the still with two detachable columns, that makes it possible to carry on complete fractionning would be considered as micro distillery. This is my own design patent pending and commercially prodused in New Zealand.Actually based on my patent work that covers continuous distillation machines and 300L fractional distiller vodeo of which is on youtube as well.
how appropriate a Russian guy distilling vodka. LOL

what are the main differences between fractional and a simple pot still? Is it just temperature control? thanks

i do love coca cola sometimes... but i guess it's bad for everything... my dentists bill are sky high...

I think it takes polymers out of the plastic, eventually it will lose its hard form. and appear as it melted.
Btw, any leeched polymers do get into the final product. Not good for you.

can i do that with achool to make the proof of it stronger like to make 90 proof to 150?

Hi, with this still you can make 192 proof.

coco-cola isnt corrosive, it burns by carbon.
Ethyls and methlys are corrosive at 80%+++ purity.
not what you can buy in plastic.
it has to do with molecular structure and the weight of thier atom, and atom size.
Cola is sugar, water, caffine and Carbon.
Not one of those is corrosive.
Mildly acidic, which isnt the same.
Ethyl(ethanol) Breaks down polymers slowly when its not diluted below 80% (82.5% or so)
stop comparing it to carbonated sugar water.

So how is it heated exactly? and how much to build it? I dont have 26 dollars for a DVD ;)

i can't hear some parts so i have some questions:
first question, what is the white liquid you put in first?
second, what is inside the solid metal tube where the transparent tubes are connected to? and what does it do in the process?
thanks, i 'm really interested because the design is very simple, and its small compared to the ones i 've previously seen.
