hi, i want to buy an irish flute. i found this rosewood flute with amazing price, but they said it's a 8 hole flute. I'm confused. How do you play an 8 hole flute? use 8 fingers? or just 6 fingers like you play the Tinwhistle? please respond fast, i really wanna buy it. Thank u

@TheCherokeeboy the two bottom holes are played uncovered, when the holes are covered you get low c but without the eight fingers your not going to get low c . Normally on a fully keyed concert flute you would press down the key to cover the 2 bottom holes to get a low c.

That was a fast song! Very pretty! Seems like the only good music on here are the Irish tunes. How many times can you hear Mozart? It sounds good to hear a more modern style played on a flute, unless those are medieval tunes, and they might be before Mozart, if so, then at least at one time or another they had good taste. Don't know what happened after classical as we know it now happened.

Wooden flutes cost more than most of those keyed metal band ones. I like the deeper tone.

I agree. The metal ones just sound so... artificial, sometimes. I'd love to invest in an Irish flute, as I am a flute player. However I'm a bit rusty. My self-esteem for flute playing has dropped.

I'm a flute player... and this sounds very much like a flute... cuz it is one! It's got a bit of a richer sound, but the qualities of the tones are the same. There are all kinds of flutes... a penny whistle is a style of flute and sounds quite different than the traditional silver plated C flutes that students in the US usually use. And I imagine the flute in this video is wooden, which changes the richness and depth of the sound, but still has the same basic audible characteristics of a flute.

You'd think so, but I know for a fact that there are 'incurable lefty's' in the stringed instrument world, and have lefty violins, violas, celli, even basses! They're rare, but in existence.

From that information, you can only deduce that there are incurable lefty or incurable righty (depending on the instrument) wind and brass players (it doesn't really apply to percussion)

he is not holding it wrong and no that doesn't mean he's left handed. Its an IRISH flute. its meant to be held like that. just like a normal flute(its held in the opposite direction) it doesn't matter what hand you use to right you have to hold it to the left. i would know I'm a flautist. and that is what its called if you play the flute. i like learning about the other flutes around the world and that's right on the way he's playing it so end of story!
