The reason big American artists are allowed to traffic their pap over here is that people are impressed by the hype and buy the shit, go the concerts etc But you know good news: You don't HAVE to listen to what you don't like. The inquisition ended hundreds of years ago folks and you wont be burned at the stake for not listening to "official" chart music B FREE!

Personally, as an American, I think we are really stuck on ourselves. I mean, Royksopp collaborated with Karin Dreijer from The Knife-- that's Norway and Sweden.

I can't think of any instances of such foreign collaboration in American music. Not to mention, when people hear that I listen to quite about of Scandinavian music, they reply with, "You should be supporting American artists."

Rest is country (which I do hate but it comes from Ireland if you read up on your history), a lot is metal, and then there's a ton of rap (which I do dislike as well but not as much as country).
