  • The strike is real. The strike near the garage is a reflection within the cameras lens.

  • its fake

  • Basket ball goal? what ever happened to basketball hoops?

  • Ghosting effect caused by the EMP of the lightning. Happens to just about every video camera that catches a close strike. Still a good shot.

  • @hjberg71 It is not EMP of the lightning, it's just the bright light that draws an image even when the electronic shutter is "closed", while reading the frame. The ghost is in the wrong place because it gets through the sensor when it shouldn't.

  • SCARYY!!

  • Looks fake no offence

  • @aCenterfoldBrat no its not fake...look at the top four comments bottom two

  • you were about 3 feet from having a real bad day!!!

  • Ahh! That's so awesome.... I love lightning... SO MUCH

  • Funny how u make us see 4 feet from the pole when the lightning actually hit the house across the way. The refelection ghosted 4 feet past the pole.

  • i dont understand why people always wonder if something is fake, with almost all videos you can tell wheather or not its fake. take this video for example, if you have ever seen a thunderstorm, you can tell that it is 100% real

  • OOOOOooooOOOO AWESOME catch!

  • that was 600 feet away, the lightning strike, in case anyone was wondering. 5 seconds equals one mile.

  • looks like texas where yall live

  • OMG awesome

  • Yeah! awesome lightning video!

  • nice, you got some of the individual return strokes

  • that wasnt a safe place at all..

  • lucky!. it was very dangerous situation!!!. cool vid ;-)

  • the thunder voice make me energy

  • awesome crack of thunder.

  • that first part you see is just a reflection. its called a ghost effect. but that was still a pretty close strike haha. probably about a mile out

  • the thunder was audible between 1 and 1.5 seconds after the lightning. that is around 1/4 a mile away.

  • excellent video.

  • current can travel through the cement/concrete floor, even better if it has metal rebar in it.

  • Not just the reflection on the lens/window?

  • Holy crap, there is a positive streamer forming right 10 feet in front of you!!!

    you're lucky

  • Nah, lens phenomenon.

  • @ CLAstuff: Yep... though it could be a frame-rate issue to. Definitely not a streamer...

  • Yeah, I think you're closer to the truth with the frame-rate issue, that makes more sense why it floated down.

  • just a camera lense reflection, you see it in hundreds of videos. Nothing to get excited about.

  • Oh yeah, lens glare from the top of frame. Awesome Lightning Catch! Very clear!

  • Yep ghosting effect on the camera, awesome catch tho!

  • That is a remarkably detailed shot.

  • There is no way that is even remotely real...come on!!!

  • Ghosting effect, most cameras give it under scenes like this, but still a nice strike

  • wow! at 0;10

  • that close branch was a streamer, not the actual bolt. you came close to getting hit though, the ring could have drawn in a bolt.

    nicce bolt BTW

  • I just said that lol If you look close there are streamers all over the place!

  • you came so close to a near hit its not funny. u had a potential bolt forming. reason : basketball hoop. lightning seeks out the easiest path of resistance not the longest object. tj scott NWS STORM SPOTTER

  • I was about to comment that the strike up close was a streamer, and not the actually lightning. It's still a really good shot.

Almost every video I have seen on youtube of "lightning" up close is actually of positive streamers. This is still a rare and cool thing to capture on camera, but you would be fine if one shot out of the top of your head, as long as it didn't connect to the negative charge from the clouds.

  • ok that was miles away lol the camera didnt read it properly

  • actualy, a garage or basement may not be a very good place to be if it has a cement/concrete floor with metal rebar in it. However, during a tornado, the basement is one of the safest places to be. The risk of some lightning current traveling through the concrete floor is there, but not very high.

  • good footage

  • it´s real i thing, but at the Basket is claerly a refection. The Main Lightning is behind a House in the Background....

  • this is whats known as a "positive streamer". had this connected the outcome may have been different! a P.S. determines a cloud to ground strike. type it in yahoo wikipedia for a proper defination. it also has a picture of a C-T-G strike. you will see the P.S. on the telegraph pole.

  • omg!

  • Very nice video. Let me clear something. It is not lens reflection, but rather problem with camera sensor reading, buffering and transporting signal to the tape or other storage or output. I send video response, where is evident that in many cases, short duration light pulses fall exactly between two frames, causing ghost effects. It depend on time scale, thus position on the screen. Vertical reading is mostly affected. Judging by sound delay, there is no close streamers or strikes.

  • thats really cool, i love me a good electrical storm.. whats with the little strike that came to your house??? wierd or what?

  • 50 meters could injure or even kill you? that is quite doubtful because lightning channels downwards into the ground it does not spread out over a distance.... but

    nice video pretty sweet shit

  • was that reall or fake?

  • Real as it gets.

  • Cool.

  • @ArmidlioX This is as real as your death will be!

  • @ArmidlioX its fake

  • COOL

  • Definitely lens reflection. Had it happen to me several times. Very cool video though. Nice job!!

  • Not a ghost leader, not a real leader. It's a ghosting effect, where the bolt reflects upside-down on the camera lens.

  • @Cchrisbud813 i had a feeling something was wrong lol...the bolt couldnt have hit that close...youdve got it and been sent across the street xD

  • @Cchrisbud813 It's not from the lens, and it's not upside down, it's just shifted (and cut) from the true position.

  • that was a positive streamer...it was trying to kill you...not ghost \.

  • A ghost leader.

  • Inside your garage isn't a safe place at all actually. Concrete flooring contains re-bar and wire mesh... both good conductors of electricity. A strike within 50 meters could injure or even kill you.

  • Woweee...nice colorful closeby CG bolt and coolsomed thunderclap... how I wish here in RI I got such live Tstorm videos like you HAVE..my last good Tstorm here was 8/13/07...but with nice rainbow and mamma....
