  • How did this turn out with Jack? Is he better, still the same, or has it gotten worse? Is he actually comfortable with people taking things from him-- not just "not growling", but truly relaxed (no stiffening, moving away, chewing/eating faster)?

  • Hi Staying. We've worked a lot with Jack and he's improved greatly as he's learned to trust us (and associate us as sources of good things, not a threat). He does growl, but rarely and only if he has an extremely high value item; however, he will still obey the command "drop it" and wait patiently.

  • It is always interesting to see smug, pompous asses like "TrvlFox" who pass judgment on others -- instead of perhaps working with troubled dogs. We adopted this dog because his first owners couldn't handle his behavioral issues -- which we've addressed by working with him over a long time. We're not experts, but we don't leave snide, uninformed and condescending comments, or make unsubstantiated complaints to YouTube to have videos removed.

  • And you want this dog to be a Therapy Dog? Are you nuts?

  • Well, I am dealing with this right now. Not trying to be mean/condescending...but

Should you really pet him when he is growling? I mean, don't punish him. But in order to gain trust you should just leave your hand there. Because he thinks he can growl to get you to back off. So if you don't reward his behavior or punish it, but just stand your ground, he will trust that you won't harm him more? I don't know...PM me
