This isn't my favorite song but I think it's a much more sophisticated audio presentation than Joni Mitchell's. I don't want to run out and get a tattoo. It would be nice to have my culture back.

I adore Maire. Her voice isn't loud but it's very compelling. Much more musical than Joni's (usually).

I see it as a reversal of the story. Same with pretty much all the stories. Shedding of constricting conventions and finding joy self expression. "return to tribal/pre-technological" a common utopian fantasy among the iPod toting tree huggers this go around. Maoris wouldn't pave paradise, they live in paradise and you can take a taxi there. All you need to do is stop behaving yourself and start smooching.
