Unfortunately, neither situation is good. Al Qaeda's ranks have doubled in size every year the US has been in Iraq. Whereas they used to number 800, they are now estimated to be at 30,000. So yes, setting a timetable for withdrawl might help the enemy, but we're also "helping" the enemy by staying there. Either way it sucks. Also, since we stay there, the Iraqi politians have no desire to actually form a government.

Telling our troops that they have lost a war that they are winning is not democratic. Sending a bill to the presses that waves a white flag when no such flag-waving should be done is not democratic. Why do you think they were so afraid to listen to General Petraeus' briefing? They want nothing more than a defeat in war of a conservative president, regardless of the implications it would have on the Iraqi citizens and the US troops.

You can do your part to help the US with your degree as well. I served four years in the Air Force including the invasion phase of this war. When my four years were up, I got out. Now I'm 1 year away from a chemistry degree. The other day I interviewed for an internship to work in a research group designing a cure for nerve agent poisoning. Awesome! I got out, but I never forgot my military.

We're still in aganistan and it's infra structure is growing faster than ever since we overthrew the taliban government. Towns are being connected by roads and public works projects. The people of Afganistan are now able to communicate with one another and work as a single country to achieve it's goals. Afganistan will make it. BUt we still have some hunting to do.

The truth is, setting a specific timetable for withdrawl is wrong. It let's the enemy know we don't have the stomach to stay and it lets everyone in that region know that the US cannot honor their committments and cannot be counted on. The Mission Accomplished banner was to celebrate the removal of Saddam which WAS the mission and that WAS accomplished. Nice try though

Unfortunately, neither situation is good. Al Qaeda's ranks have doubled in size every year the US has been in Iraq. Whereas they used to number 800, they are now estimated to be at 30,000. So yes, setting a timetable for withdrawl might help the enemy, but we're also "helping" the enemy by staying there. Either way it sucks. Also, since we stay there, the Iraqi politians have no desire to actually form a government.

I do agree that we cannot pull our troops out of Iraq because of the action that the Bush has chosen. But there are far worse countries than Iraq. South Africa is in a much worse state then Iraq is. Yet no one is doing anything to help them. Little boys are being taught to kill at the age of 12. Mass genocide, blood diamonds, slavery, racial descrimination and probably more.

I do realize that... but at this point in time there isn't much we can do about it. Everyone always says we need to get involved, but then everyone would bitch because it would be another war on our hands, more money, more deaths, and more soldiers. Besides, if we spread our forces out too thin our own safety is going to become a problem. We would first have to pick a side because theire is a civil war over there and that may lead to wars with other countries as well.

Listen, we can sit here and argue all day about how the war started, but the fact of the matter is, us leaving will be a disaster. this commercial is so fucked up, because there are so many variables that go with NOT leaving iraq. and if we have a bill that says get the troops out by oct, why not just get them out tomorrow? why keep them there until oct for no reason? it shows that the democrat bill was NOT for bringing the troops back, but for personal reasons!
