I think it's safe to say California has fast kids when 20.6 doesn't win in a high school race. Hope to see Bryshon back on his game soon after that incident too
Nellum one of the best 200-400 sprinters in HS history. Split 44.6 that year as well. Very strong runner and also 20.43 speed. Nellum vs Chris Nelloms would of been a hell of a race. 20.47 and 45.36 and 44.2 for Chris Nelloms and a 13.30 110 hurldes as well.
best got a better start butttt bryshon through 100m(where the numbers are or 1:31) was faster than best(who who the open 100m in 10.31). and he would have won by 5 hundreths it looks like and they are running a turn. so bryshon would have beat best in the open 100m and since he would have been running a straight not a curve he would have easily beaten best. he could have ran a 10.20 fairly easy. best is hella fast for a football player though
@MerC16 bryshon is still gonna be breaking records for the rest of his colligate years. and would have been 2 years ago if he didn't get shot. he is already a star and now that he is healthy i have faith that he is gonna be the star that he should have been the next to years at sc(im talking ncaa records falling).
dam nice form....guess what people I know the philosophy of this running form perfectly....I ran yesterday at 46.38 on the 400 without having alot of training.....Man I found the guy who told me how to run it he gave me a paper and I read it and it's the real deal...If you want to know it it'll will cost you....
yeah thats wack...but thats what happens when you go to long beach poly...long beach breeds the biggest stars and the biggest haters...hopefully he'll recover...
I saw Usain Bolt run a 20.58 at 200 meters when he was only 15 YEARS OLD. We were coaching two of our (USA) athletes at Jr. World Champrionships back in 2002.
At that time, Bolt's 400 meter time was only about 46.7, but as a 15 year old, he was clearly faster than Bryshon Nellum was in both distances at that same age. (Nellum's best 400 meters was 46.82 at age 16.)
yeah, thats sad as hell. South Central LA is NOT the place to be. Stupid ass gang-bangers, buy guns before learning how to shoot and end up innocent bystanders. He was already nursing a hamstring injury from last year, and now this. Doctors predict he will recover, but hopefully he can do so soon
Christian never ran a faster than 10.1 at the state meet.....He has also been successful in several international meets...and you will be seeing him compete if Im not mistaken next month at the Olympic Games!
Christian never ran faster than 10.1 @ the texas state meet.... Edorian Mcullough ran the 10.05 that year....and Christian has also been very successful at several international meets... If I'm not mistaken you will be seeing him in action next month...In the Olympic Games running for his native country!!!
Brenden Christian from Austin, Tx (Reagan HS) back in 2002 ran a 20.32 (1 sec from WR) and a 10.05 100M at the state meet and didn't have the hype like this kid. Unfortunately He has battled injury after injury and he'll never truly recover. Nellum is very fast but like everyone has said. He needs to work on his shoulder form. He has potential. I would love to see him and Rynell Parsons from San Antonio, Tx (Stevens HS) race
1 sec from WR? what is that supposed to mean? do you realize how much 1 second is in the 100 or 200? that's like winning over someone by 30 seconds in the mile. haha... are you serious.
fast mutha fuckas, fast mutha fuckas! does anyone know what michael johnson was runnin' in high school for the 200's. fucking world record of 19.32 seconds when he was old and crusty like 32 years old, i guess thats where the .32 comes from. lol haha lmao. i know
One of the best 200 duels ever you got to respect Jahvid best too that was a hell of a run he was even with Nellum and even when Nellum started to pull away you could see Jahvid reel him in just a little if he could have maintained till the finish he might have got him.
watch jahvid best on his tail, this guy is a football player running track, not a track star playing football, this kid can fly the Cal Bears are lucky to have this kid
No need to pressure this young man with ridiculous comments about how he should change his running style from armchair coaches. Let him progress with good coaching in college. I hope he does well, but everytime I see one of these phenoms, I can't help but think of Obea Moore or Michael Granville. Never made it to the next level.
Not so fast. It can be difficult at times translating that talent from high school to the professional or even college ranks. Let's see how he does at USC first.
my only complaint with Bryshon is that he needs to learn to hug the lane line better. He probably would have taken down both records (200/400) if he were running on the inside part of the lane on the turn/s.
@dubasher im not saying your wrong as he could have done it better maybe but there is a reason why his starting blocks are as far outside as can be at the start.and from the gun he is fading inside to hit the apex. how a race car hits the apex to get the fastest time so did bryshon he did it perfectly. same with a 4x1 there is a reason best teams have the 1st and 3rd legs have it in the left hand and the 2nd and 4th in the right. just think like how a racecar goes from out to in to out.
this is my cousin lol

his running form looks so relaxed, like a pro 400 runner. Bryshon's stride length is rediculously long.
tribespeak 4 years ago
No it's not good for a guy like Bryshon to hug the turn, He has to long of legs to do that. He wouldn't get the best of it like a smaller guy would..
mvdiablo 4 years ago
this nellum as smooth or smoother than wariner and he can take him down in a few years in the 400m as he clearly has the speed with this run.
ColdShotMania 4 years ago
Not so fast. It can be difficult at times translating that talent from high school to the professional or even college ranks. Let's see how he does at USC first.
jperkins1911 4 years ago
my only complaint with Bryshon is that he needs to learn to hug the lane line better. He probably would have taken down both records (200/400) if he were running on the inside part of the lane on the turn/s.
dubasher 4 years ago 3
That's a good point, but sometimes you concentrate on keeping your form that you forget about basic things like that.
bhsucks 4 years ago 5
He's still young...he'll learn. If he stays focused and takes care of himself...he's going to be REALLY scary!
jperkins1911 4 years ago
you dont need to hug then bend, you run faster if you run in the middle of your lane..less centerfugal forces
richardkilty 4 years ago
True.
Also, he could of easily run sub 20.30 if his reaction/start was better.
xfp21 1 year ago
@dubasher im not saying your wrong as he could have done it better maybe but there is a reason why his starting blocks are as far outside as can be at the start.and from the gun he is fading inside to hit the apex. how a race car hits the apex to get the fastest time so did bryshon he did it perfectly. same with a 4x1 there is a reason best teams have the 1st and 3rd legs have it in the left hand and the 2nd and 4th in the right. just think like how a racecar goes from out to in to out.
