Can also get nylon washer at hardware store for 20 cents and cut a slot in it or use a rubber washer/seal from a Grolsch beer bottle top. I use the rubber Grolsch bottle seal and just leave the straps on my guitars. They never fall off.
Wouldn't one of those plastic square shape locks that comes in a loaf of bread work as well? Just slips right on and holds the strap in place. No cutting with scissors or making holes with a knife. Its already to use out from the bag.
Thanks for the tip, I had the Dunlop strap locks on my Les Paul bass and I play at an extreme angle compared to the lock and even the strap lock fell off on me on stage. Eventually I had to superglue the two pieces together to make them stay on! next time, I'm using a metal washer like what Cliff Burton used on his basses!
Nothing against you, but I kinda wanted to see the guitar fall lol. Thanks for the vid though, this is actually really useful and I'll have to try it out.
Thats ace dude, I thought I was the king of cheap using some 1" fibre washers from a hardware shop for 10p each but you made one from shit I throw away everyday.
i got another good idea: just take the rubber ring of an beer bottle and flip it over your normal strap pin just like the way the dude in the video and it really keeps your strap nice and tight :)
@collinallenparishute I have had those on since I made this video a never once have they failed. I'm more scared of the strap braking.. I've broke one strap and tore most of the way of 2 others, And saw a strap brake at a local concert .
If you test them good yes... I've flipped my guitar a in the video a few times with them. The last time I did, I hit something and put a small crack in the neck. I wouldn't suggest flipping. They are in a way free and simple to make doesn't hurt to try one. =]
I used a plastic card like a credit card it works for now i'm not sure if I trust it yet thanks for the awesome bottle cap trick I'm sure I will do that when I am out of cards
@rockexpert It doesn't take much to hold a strap on.. bottle caps may be overkill! On 2nd thought over kill in keeping a strap on may be a good thing. Ha.. How is the Thinner plastic cards working?
@christian coker1 exactly, Thank you. lolz you could use a black cap off a gatorade! maybe I need to make one in real time, on cam the whole time, in the open, with a clock and a stop watch in view the entire video .
@bojjob77 Some ppl have trobble makeing them. mine have never let me down, sorry your haveing trobble =/... make sure you followed my instrutions closely, if there not made right they will not work right, And "make sure you test it befor you go crazzy" =]
GREAT IDEA!!!. You could also do this by buying two delrin washers from a hardward store (75 cents for two) and simply cutting a slot from the side of them using wire cutters. This was a great idea. Thanks!!
I did do this (bought delrin washers), and it has worked flawlessly. They are stiff and hard to get on into place, but then, that is the idea of straplocks anyway. They cost 24 cents each, so they're pretty cheap, yet nice looking (I bought black delrin washers).
I admit I dropped the green one,it fell under the recliner I was using as a table.. so I picked up the one I have been using for months and put it on the guitar for the demonstration. my apologies... It was made the exact same way. I assure you this is not fake.. I now have the green strap lock I made in this video on my strat. it works just as well.
@Ben8nz they work just fine, but I would recommend that everyone test them first, 'cause the quality can differ depending on how they are made (and also the bigger the strap button the better).
BTW, I used Mountain Dew caps, cause once the logo peels off they are all black :)
Are you mental?? That isnt a 10 pound guitar..

Good video and nice idea. Basically, you've made a customised, plastic 'C' clip. One problem - the only bottles I drink from have corks..! [chortle]
Nevertheless, I'll give it a go, when I get a bottle cap big enough.

I think there are like more than 10 different ways to secure the strap without having to spend like 15$.
This is one of them.
Great tutorial. Thanks.
