I can see where the judge would be offended that would be showing bias. However, if I were a judge, I would never want there to be an APPEARANCE of bias. There should be a law if not an explicit policy to avoid this type of situation. I find disconcerting that courts of Michigan (or any jurisdiction anywhere) would allow a judge to hear a case where one of the lawyers that helped get him/her reelected is litigating the case.

@gj804 I agree. I can understand why she is upset - it would always be hard to disqualify oneself.  At least in the end she did the right thing. I also agree that there should be some kind of judicial rule against hearing arguments from an attorney that you have employed (even in a voluntary capacity).

She is frightening. I think in order to neuter her you would have to begin by taking away her diet of raw meat for breakfast. Once they get the sense of blood - yikes!

We have an expectation about courts and judges (to be a place where justice results). However, judges are administrative in concerns with policy. They are addressing a fiction and not directly the live man or woman who is the authorized representative to that fiction. It's all about trust and they swop roles with the players.

The judge might need to be disbarred or should not have been re-elected to the bench. Why didn't someone run against her. .When good people do nothing, evil grows. Her attitude to me seems awful.

Remrett: Are you kidding? Bias rules the day in most courtrooms. Citizens demand that judges not even appear to be bias. "My campaign manager tries cases before me, but there isn't anything wrong with that?" That statment alone should disqualify her from sitting as a judge, as it goes to her ability to make reasoned decisions.

See this American system of electing judge. Its appalling. Judges should be put on the bench for life and not be political. Just like this instance there always going to be allegations of bias.
