You can tell Paul Revere and the boys were way ahead of their time by their electric guitars didn't have a chord running to them. And since we know they weren't lip syncing, they had to like those the bands use today during their concerts. LOL
To Guidobrat: Like you, I grew up with Where the Action Is. I was a big PR and the Raiders fan! I was absolutely in love with Mark Lindsay! He was absolutely beautiful. Do you remember some kind of contest (might have been on Where the Action is) in which he was to cut off his ponytail as some kind of prize and it turned out only an inch or so was cut off! Anyway, I remember Fang and Smitty too...oh, the memories!!!
Yeah..whatever happened to Fang & Mark & Drake Levin? Embarassed that I used to watch "Action", I now realize this song is easier to take seriously without the video.
@marianvigilante Hate to tell you this, but Drake Levin passed about 2 yrs ago or so...fell victim to some form of cancer if I remember correctly. . .sorry about that. . .
I FUCKIN HATE HOW THIS NEW BAND RAIDERS HAS TO TOTALLY RIP OFF JUSTIN BIEBERS HAIRSTYLE!! WHY CANT THEY JUST TRY AND BE ORIGINAL INSTEAD OF COPYING THE GREAT BIEBER. PISSES ME OFF!!
I have front row tickets to see Paul Revere and the Raiders on January 13, 2012, at the South Point Casino in Las Vegas. I am ESPECIALLY anticipating the Go-Go dancers in the show!!
@MrRaiderfan1000 ..it'll NEVER be the Raiders without Mark..I'm bias..I grew up with them on "Where The Action Is" as a kid in the 60's---the ORIGINAL PR & The Raiders (PR, Mark Lindsay, Fang (Phil Volk) Smitty, Drake)...not these imposters that pose as them nowadays...just isnt the same WITHOUT Mark !
@GUIDOBRAT -- Actually I saw PR&TR live during the 80s. He had an entire new younger band and they were excellent. His new lead singer was as good as Mark Lindsey. It was a wonderful show.
Just an observation...but Goldie was very, very thin back then....the blonde in this has thighs that are the size of Goldies (then) waist....take a look at some old "Laugh In" footage.....
My son is really into the music of today but one day while driving in the car he heard this song come on oldies station KEDB and got hooked on the song. I guess he does have good taste!
I'm 32 and I've loved this song since I was a kid. Today's so-called "music" is a joke and this song is one part of the proof that 60's music is the greatest music the world has ever known.
@blkirish88 Not sure about that. In 1967 - 68 (the years Charlie was with the Raiders), Goldie was in a TV sitcom called Good Morning World. Also, I think Goldie was quite slender while this lovely young lady is curvier (not a judgement!!! - just an observation)
The best song of its kind . This is the very first anti-drug song . I never used drugs but was around many who did in the 60's. Great song with a better message
I don't necessarily see this in M.L and the Raiders music, but again, many young and disillusioned people became members of the communist party, and were given marching orders to "fuck up the culture, and by so doing, the country!" Many have since renounced the party and it's goal and agenda! No one can POSSIBLY be naive enough to think that the promotion of really evil things like tobacco, alcohol, street drugs, gambling, prostitution, feminism, and porn are accidental! Today, they admit this!
@sixtiesrockboy What is this ridiculous gibberish! Somebody needs a time out and maybe some therapy. I guess you're probably old enough to have Dementia too.
@bobbo1948 Dementia is'nt capitalized, DUMB ASS! It's not like a TITLE, FOOL! You and the other fails like you need therapy, as does the country! I'm doing GREAT! I'm devastatingly handsome, well educated and read, in decent health for my age, and have plenty of money! What's not to like!? If the 1948 in your user name is your year of birth, and not your HAT size, you're old enough to know something about Alger Hiss! Hiss was outed by Whittaker Chambers, after he left the party!
LOrd Mark was so cute. this is one of those anti drug songs that people would listen to. have the 45 somewhere. is there anyone out there thaT can post BLUE FOX
Mark Lindsey isn't half bad. Those guys go back to my early teens, when Paul Revere lived in my home town. Paul was independently wealthy (semi) before he started making money in music. He owned some income property. I used to see him on the street all the time in his purple T-bird.
my dad and i were trying to figure out a name of a band that we heard on the radio and he thought it was Paul Revere and the Raiders... it wasnt... but i thought he was making the name up!
I noticed these guys for the first time with "Just Like Me" which was in 1965. It is now 2011 and they might sound better to me now. It,s fun to show this kind of stuff to younger folks who like real music. Of course a monster sound system makes it more fun.
Rip off of Satisfaction ? Not hardly...I can't see how he made that leap. But then, he probably wasn't alive during the 60's, so he really couldn't have any idea of what it was like; the social upheaval, the war, people trying/doing anything and everything for ' kicks'. That's why this tune is one of their best, IMHO. They conveyed the message that the "magic carpet ride" was a loser trip with this song. Ah well !
Opinions, like belly buttons and butts, are something we all have
The blond on the right looks a bit like Golden Hawn, back in the day. Can't believe how "heavy" the dancers are... like normal people! Not sure the "kicks" are drugs!
The two guitar players on the left , play much much better hopping up and down.
You can play the chords and the melody with a REAL CLEAN SOUND, while your jumping up and down and RUNNING in place. I teach my guitar students, if you want to really get a clean, clear guitar chord sound, without any buzzes or mistakes, then you should RUN in Place, or Jump Up and Down.
That is correct, but if you were in your late teens, it was a nightmare. Vietnam and the draft made the lives of young men aliving hell. Great music though. Luckily i was about five years too young for the political problems of the sixties, so yes , the sixties really was great for me.

@MrRaiderfan1000 Yes. The house was on Cielo Drive. Melcher did not own the house. He leased it and lived there with Candace Bergen. If Mark Lindsay ever lived there this is the first I've heard of it.
@Alikah1 I actually worked with Candice Bergen and Elliott Gould on the anti-Vietnam War movie Getting Straight in the summer of 1969. I believe we were still filming in August when the murders occurred, but it's been 42 years!
I remember back then that there was two shows us kids would give up our play time for. One was "Batman" the other was "Where the Action Is" we would all gather around the T.V. and wait to see the house band Paul Revere and the Raiders) play their latest hit along with acts like The Temps. Barbara Lewis, James Brown and any act that had a hit on the charts.
I remember that too!! I had a model of the Batmobile I sent away for from a cereal box top and I think 50 cents. Gilligans Island, Lost in Space, Voyage to the bottom of the Sea I remember well on Prime Time TV back then.
Oh baby come on, take us where the action is, Oh baby come on take us where the action is....
Loved the beat to this song! Makes ya wanna dance but I can't due to arthritis in my knees. Bitch getting old! LOL! I don't know how teen idols like Mark Lindsay, Peter Noone and Mickey Dolenz can tour in their 60s! But they do! Give them props!
Did you know that a Chicago band called “The New Colony Six” had the same idea of revolutionary costumes when they went to LA, and actually stayed at the same apt complex as the Raiders while they were looking for a record deal. And they were blown away when they seen these guys dressed the same as them. They eventually got a deal, but only after they enlisted a singer songwriter named Ronny Rice. And they learned that it was about talent… and not costumes.
@DCNY31279 Does that include the addictive prescriptive pharmaceuticals that most are addicted too? Ever think that just maybe the pharmaceutical corps want you addicted to THEIR drugs? And that many herbal drugs that are outlawed can be grown for free. That corporate CEO can’t have that, it would impose on his million dollar bonus.
FLASHBACKS TO THE 60'S WITHOUT THE LSD! HOW THESE SONGS TAKE ME BACK TO THE TURBULENCE TIMES WITH ALL THE GREAT MUSIC AND ALL THE TRAGIC DEATHS!!!!!!!!!!!!
Whoa! Flashback for me. Never knew of the song was about drugs or whoring. I know the girls of the day all wanted to marry Mark Lindsay... 10x over. Which of course made us guys hate him even more!
Originally written for The Animals but Eric Burdon turned it down. Paul Revere & Raiders cut it and went to #4 in US, then #1 in Canada. Rolling Stone named it #400 of top 500 all time rock songs.
Yeah...this was the conflict in the band. Lindsay is singing about crippling addiction but the backing band is neck deep in mid 60s cute....a bunch of good songs though if you can ignore the non-sense.
I just saw Them at the Iowa State Fair and they blew everyone away. They sang all of their big hits with the care and energy that I remeber when seeing them back in 1966. Only bad thing was, they should of played at a bigger place. There was not enough sets to accomidate the crowd. I took my little boy and he loved them!
Is it true that "Paul Revere & The Raiders" weren't played in the UK at the time b/c of the political statement that their costumes inferred over there ?
I don't know if you know but this is a anti-drug song. Listen to the words. 1966 is the most underrated year in rock and pop music. A crossroads between top 40 album rock and drug influenced songs.
@jaytf1231 -----Mark Lindsay said he didn't understand the lyrics when this song was presented to him. He admitted he was very naive about the drug scene in the 60's.
@jaytf1231 Yes, but it's not like they felt super strongly about it or abstained from drugs themselves. The Animals song, We Gotta Get Out of this Place came out and they wanted to do a song like that so they asked their manager type dude to look around for something. So, Carole King's husband at the time wrote it for them.
This is one of the greatest songs from the 60's as well as one of the most underrated bands. And I love this video especially that blonde dancer who looks like Goldie Hawn. Man oh man that chick can dance. I love it. Peace.
Saw 'em a couple a times in the 60's and they WERE one of the best live bands...only a couple a bands, that i ever saw put out more energy, one being The Who.
I`m not convinced I don`t know who beerborn is (love the name) but I do believe that is Goldie a stronger argument may convince me otherwise such as said person`s name , who is actually dancing , furthermore it would be nothing to be ashamed of so
for now stand by my statement and I would invite anyone else to chime in if they have pertenent info
The 1960's scare me! It was a quirky and yet very dangerous and deadly decade.

This song says it all: stay away from drugs!
DCNY31279 4 months ago
@DCNY31279 Does that include the addictive prescriptive pharmaceuticals that most are addicted too? Ever think that just maybe the pharmaceutical corps want you addicted to THEIR drugs? And that many herbal drugs that are outlawed can be grown for free. That corporate CEO can’t have that, it would impose on his million dollar bonus.

Great tune and group, but I always thought those guys were much better when they decided to dump those rediculous outfits.

@sjtom57 ....yeah...dumping those outfits made them better musicians....lol. jk

Those chicks cant dance worth a shit. LOL Good tune however.

I took my little boy and he loved them!
khj93play1 5 months ago
Sounds like early 1966. High school was awful, but I would go there in a NY minute; 2011 is far worse.

awesome song, best song they ever did
childofthe70s2 5 months ago
Is it true that "Paul Revere & The Raiders" weren't played in the UK at the time b/c of the political statement that their costumes inferred over there ?
arjaramillo 5 months ago
"DC5 ish" pocket on this (and other early PR& R's) single releases.. Like a cross between "Any Way You Want It" & "At The Scene".
I was 9 and a big DC-5 fan and Raiders blew me away first time I heard them on Where The Action Is.
audiomez 5 months ago
I don't know if you know but this is a anti-drug song. Listen to the words. 1966 is the most underrated year in rock and pop music. A crossroads between top 40 album rock and drug influenced songs.
jaytf1231 5 months ago 17
@jaytf1231 -----Mark Lindsay said he didn't understand the lyrics when this song was presented to him. He admitted he was very naive about the drug scene in the 60's.
mxfog 5 months ago
@jaytf1231 Yes, but it's not like they felt super strongly about it or abstained from drugs themselves. The Animals song, We Gotta Get Out of this Place came out and they wanted to do a song like that so they asked their manager type dude to look around for something. So, Carole King's husband at the time wrote it for them.

@jaytf1231 When it comes to naming underrated years in music, the last decade you want to go for is the 60s.

The 1st group I saw in concert. $5 tickets general admission. Only a couple hundred people showed up. It was quite an experience for an 8th grader!

This is one of the greatest songs from the 60's as well as one of the most underrated bands. And I love this video especially that blonde dancer who looks like Goldie Hawn. Man oh man that chick can dance. I love it. Peace.
makingsense53 5 months ago
Saw 'em a couple a times in the 60's and they WERE one of the best live bands...only a couple a bands, that i ever saw put out more energy, one being The Who.
olmose 5 months ago
If I could use a baseball analogy, If lead singers were in a starting lineup, Mark Lindsay would bat cleanup!

@dannyguitargardner It is Goldie Hawn.
haileyalexis709 5 months ago 2
I`m not convinced I don`t know who beerborn is (love the name) but I do believe that is Goldie a stronger argument may convince me otherwise such as said person`s name , who is actually dancing , furthermore it would be nothing to be ashamed of so
for now stand by my statement and I would invite anyone else to chime in if they have pertenent info
