  • Does the pad you use matter? i have a round one a "Remo"

  • This was the was raw and well done. the end part was cute =) Thumbs up

  • Hi Dr. Joy. I haven't checked out your channel in a while. I hope you are doing well.

I just wanted to ask you what your opinion of the new Ludwig P4 Practice Pad is. Have you had a chance to either watch a demo video or possibly try it out yourself? I just became aware of it myself. It would work perfectly on a pad exercise like the one you're teaching in this lesson. The reason I'm asking is I'm looking for a practice pad. The Ludwig one sounds like the best out there.

  • try to keep your sticks at most three inches off the pad, so it doesnt look like you're just wacking it :l

  • Why? My practice pad is meant for hitting! That's why I got it! Learning to really control the sticks means you have to get used to the full range of motion of them. Limiting them to only 3 inches is one of the quickest ways to carpel tunnel! If I am using dynamics then sure, the height of the sticks is very important, other than that, it isn't.

  • @MegoPregoUnicorn doesnt that contradicts what you are tryings to say? cause when you are drumming..you are really just "wacking it" but of course it depends on your style of playing.

  • Dude. Sweeeeeet.

  • My boys want to play drums, so I bought them each a drum pad with 5a sticks. Your vid really will help them getting started. We are concerned about neighbors, too, so we want to get electric drums but don't have a lot of money. I want to get the kind where you can silence the cymbols after striking. I really don't want to spend over 1.000. I saw a roland for 899 with a monitor, but don't know if the cymbols can be snuffed or if it really matters.

  • I got the same pad!!!!!!!!

  • bad rudiments, very bad lol

  • oohh cool but do u have any idea what i could use for a stand?

cause i aint got all that much cah and im only 13 :/

  • i dont have a stand for my pad :(

  • You don't have to have one. I didn't for ages. The beauty of a practice pad is that you can put it pretty much anywhere and use it! The stand I use in the videos is a regular Mapex snare drum stand.

  • woah he can play drums with gloves on! cool

  • my instructor won't let me use anything else but the traditional grip :(

  • That doesn't make sense to me?! Why? What's their reasoning???? You should be able to learn whichever way you want. Traditional grip isn't really needed on todays drum set....

  • cuz i've never used it b4 so thats all he wants me to use and the space between my thumb and my index finger hurts a lot now lol :(

  • i had the h.Q but it spunded terrible

  • What size practise pad do you use dude?

  • 12" Real Feel! The Only Pad!!!!

  • lol

  • Ok so look i dont play drums or know Shit about drums(I play guitar).I was thinking of getting a set of drums but i was reading & it said i had to buy some practice pads 2 see if i would like playing drums so

CAN SOME1 PLZZZ TELL ME HOW TO BUY A PRACTICE PAD????

    PLSSS

Cause i dont wanna spend 200,500$ in drums set!

  • Practice pads are cheap go to any music store and they'll have it, the hexagon HQ pads are best

  • where u get the pads from? yamaha?

  • Wow v good. Brings back memories of the old days. Thats your rock pattern not you on the toilet. V good!

  • Looking forward to the next lesson...always wanted to play the drums!

  • That's some great looking legs there Dr Joy!!

    Poppa Shep.

  • Fantastic tuition! Glad to see that drumming is so portable! Maybe I should take it up...

  • aww, a familar sound from the living room - go hubby!!!

I am proud of you - keep going

    Muchly love and hugs xxx

Just one question - who filmed it?? And liking the blue nails from the bathroom shot! hehe

  • Brilliant vid - very funny at the end! You are a very skilled drummer, you will make it as a teacher - very clear intructions throughout

  • Fascinating! The teaching is good, practical, down-to-earth - and occasionally wacky! More power to your elbow (or do I mean wrist?)

  • Quality. When's the next lesson? Can you help me get up to Grade 8?

  • No problem buddy. Msg me and we'll see what we can do! Next Lesson is on it's way soon.... Keep watching, The Dr. of Joy

  • JJ you rock!! I have just got out my African drum and had a bash. I like your bossanova and the pergola bashing!

  • Yeah. Got into a little bit o' trouble for that one!! Oh well.....

  • very nice vid! your voice reminds me the drummer of my rock covers band! He is also a great drums teacher. I´m a guitarist but i also like to play drums and he is always trying to teach me the kind of exercises that you show in the video! Great job!

  • Mr Joy, very impressive as per. How you make what looks like a converted drum stool sound like a full kit is fantastic!

  • Thankyou all for the kind comments. This is just a taster of things to come.....

  • Well I'm not sure if I would consider myself a skin spanker or just curious ;) but I'm liking it!! That and you get a chance to show off . . .LOL

    Cx

  • very nice. your a great drummer, but thats not news to you : )

  • the things you can do on the loo ha
