Excellent clear and concise video, that is step by step and explains a little about simple layers. Easy to follow and slow enough to easily understand. Good simple examples and excellent instruction!
OMG SO many times have I tryed to do this but every time i found a vid. for extraction, it called for channels which this doesn't have so thank you SO much!
Thanks for your prompt response. That is what I've done - there is no 'magic extractor' My drop down under 'image' is
Rotate - Transform - Crop - Divide Scanned Photos - Resize - Mode - Convert Color Profile. None of those options are showing 'magic ex'. A search in help came up with no results. The manual explains the same thing as you. Still can't find magic ex
Mine has the Magic Extractor as the last menu. Maybe try to reinstall the software? I am stumped on this one. You could also call Adobe and ask their free support.
Very helpful. I thought my problems were solved. However, when I tried to follow your instructions I discovered that there is no 'magic extractor' selection under 'image'. I'm using pse 6 on a mac. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.
I just checked on my Mac and if you have an image open, then click on the PULL DOWN menu for IMAGE and then the last one is Magic Extractor. Hope this helps.

just got this elements 6 and i was doing this but i had to use eraser tool to do it took forever this is nice didnt know it had this thx for video very helpful i subscribed
Thanks alot. It really healped me! But I got a question:
What about the shadows? For example, if the picture was taken in a beach during a sunny day and we want to bring the other picture which is taken on a garden. We would want to move the person and the shadow to the other picture with the beach on it. How do we make the shadow transparent so that it can look as if we were actually standing in the sand and not the grass?
jack, on some photos it doesnt work! I did the little red and blue dealy right, but it takes out EVERYTHING it just keeps the colors and the checkers but no pic. I really need help. Its probably stupid but i've cried about it, its so frustrating! PLease...help me =(
Great video... now you have to add how to make it more realistic with shadows and reflections. If you notice, your main image has them and your new gnomes do not.
@bgg1175 Nice catch those idea were brought to another video.

No you loose all the wizards and the create tabs. It is better for beginners to use Elements.

hi!
great vid, but like toucana asked, how can u make the shadows move with the picture ???
thx :D
icejumperke 3 years ago
The real truth is that you would not want any shadows with your pictures. The shadow on this picture was really a mistake.
Thanks for writing in to the show.

Great video. It seems like such a difficult but extremely useful program and you make it seem easy with your instructional video.
Question. How can you save an extracted object in it's own form without any background? Thanks. Keep it up.
loquito1966 3 years ago
The only way you can do this is save the file as psd or a photoshop file. When you save as a jpg it will add the white background.
Good question
Jack

It sounds to me that maybe you forgot to duplicate your background layer first?
Just take your time and play with it a few times and it will work out for you.
Let me know if this helps.

You could drop a shadow using a light brash tool with a soft tip and black color. Thanks for pointing that out.
